Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

I didn't realize Shakes resurrected Conservative Gamer Bloke.  I had been following his progress at Stingy Hat Games, but he took a Holiday vacation ... or as you guys would say "a Holiday holiday".   ;)

It looks like both blogs are back up with new entries posted this past Tuesday.  Nice to see he's back at it.   O0

*blush* I feel so loved.

I didn't realize anybody had ever perused the things. I'm going to be updating both of the blogs at least once a week from here on out. I'm releasing Verily next week on Stingy Hat and then I will document the process of starting a new game project from scratch through each update. Verily isn't a game as much as it is a proof of concept, but my next project will be something that is hopefully somewhat fun to play.

Thanks for reading!

I look forward to playing with it.

Is Our Boy Jack permanently on hold?

Unfortunately, it does look like Our Boy Jack is indeed permanently on hold. I lost the majority of my work on it in one fell, virusey swoop, and I haven't looked back since. I still learned a lot from my time with it, so it isn't a total loss to me. But for anyone wanting to play it, well, it is a total loss for them.

On the bright side, it was just going to be a platformer prototype in much the same way Verily is a tile-based RPG prototype, so it wasn't going to be much fun anyway. Additionally, I don't really even have anything to add to the platformer genre. Miyamoto I am not. It was mostly an exercise just to prove that I could do it.

That said, my morbid fascination with serial killers still exists, so I do very much want to bring Jack back at some point in some form or another. I had an idea of doing an oldschool point and click adventure game ala Monkey Island starring Jack and friends. I think having an insane-but-lovable serial killer as a main character and a bunch of naive and totally unaware supporting cast could lend itself well to the kinds of comedic situations and puzzles that Monkey Island type games need to be fun to play. We'll see.

...  Monkey Island type games ...

Crazy coincidence, I was actually going to suggest the possibility of a poin-and-click adventure type of game.  Worry less about mechanics, more about story, which I think would appeal more to your talents.

Years ago I played a game called HOTEL.  I revisit it from time to time whenever I'm in the mood to question the world around me.  The last time I played it, I thought of you.

I have played that before, briefly. I'll have to give it a closer look.
