Halo 4's New Regicide Multiplayer Mode Revealed

It seems that 343 Industries' efforts to shake up Halo 4's multiplayer with new modes and an overhauling of classic game types will also see the introduction of a new mode called 'Regicide', in which one player assumes the role of King and everyone else seeks to usurp his throne and kill him. It's like Game of Thrones in space.

The new mode is revealed in a video interview with Halo 4's Lead Multiplayer Designer, Brad Welch over on Game Informer, detailing a twist on the free-for-all deathmatch. Killing the King in Regicide grants you the huge bounty upon their head, while killing the other players will still grant you a point apiece. The bounty on the King's head increases as the match progresses, until they're dead.

There's also rumours echoing around the web that later today will see a major Halo 4 announcement, with reports suggesting that a November 6th, 2012 release date might be revealed.

Forerunner Vision has been confirmed to have limited range, take time to get the whereabouts of nearby enemies to you, and make a noise that other nearby players can hear.
Armor lock is not returning to Halo with Halo 4.
Getting shot while sprinting slows you down.
Weapon drops are very much 'announced' in advance of their appearance on the map.  It is possible to die by the weapon spawn landing on your head, but you'd pretty much have to be trying for that to happen because of all the information of when and where it's dropping.

Halo 4 Cover Art

The cover artwork for Halo 4 has been revealed and its pretty damn awesome.

Emailed in little chunks to Halo Waypoint fans, when contructed the image shows the Chief in a three-point landing pose looking totally badass. Perhaps even more interesting, however, is the background, showing the UNSC vessel Forward Unto Dawn and a Covenant ship being sucked into a giant... thing.

The “thing” actually looks rather like the Requiem facility shown in the debut trailer, and points to the identity of Halo 4's new race of enemies. We already know about Crawlers and Watchers, but just what is that thing?

We have got long to wait to find out. Expect more from E3 next month.

There are some leaks about Halo 4 floating around the internet.  One slew of screenshots showcasing some of the new armor abilities and other loadout things.  Another leak is this "dodgy looking shaky-cam footage running off a VHS and playing on a CRT TV in a barn."  It seems real though, and while it has no campaign spoilers it does show some new things.

I didn't link to them as they're easy enough to find, and some people might not want to see them.  Or hear them, in the case of the video..

I've seen a few of those alright, the only thing holding me back from pe-ordering this is no mp beta. I don't give two monkeys about being part of the beta but there should be one, can't understand that one at all. Maybe it's just not that good, maybe they've been secretly testing the mp and it kicks holy ass, who knows!

I wonder if they're just trying to keep the "surprise" of the changes they're making to MP for release day, though from the look of some of them they're not true to Halo's old style? I'm sure our resident Halo-expert can speculate better on this one than me. :D

That new enemy looks interesting but the design looks like something from the n64 days it's a bit square. The music is stunning on this and the visuals look crisp indeed. There are some things that revert back towards pre Reach Halo's like the dumping of armour lock and the health shield looks like Halo 3. It's strange how the mp is such a focus for the series because when it started there was no mp. Apparently 353 have come up with a reason as to why there is red v blue as well, I can't wait to hear that one :)

halo.xbox.com has three new videos going over the multiplayer options in Halo 4.  In the competitive mode War Games, some of the new weapons, medals, assassinations, and maps were shown.  Also shown was the unlocking of the battle rifle after a match, and that when ordnance is ready to be delivered, a player near the drop point was able to select which weapon he wanted to spawn there and it spawned immediately for him.

In the cooperative mode, Spartan Ops, the new enemies were shown, as well as new armor abilities such as Forerunner (Promethean) vision, and an energy riot shield.

Sounds like some of this could be messy if not done right, but at the same time I can see some more tactics being employed. I've always tried to play Halo in a more tactical way rather just first to the bullet. I can't say there's anything negative here at all except Halo just doesn't excite me as it used to, but that may change if they keep moving Halo 4 in the right direction.

I'm not sure if the maps have been renamed, but we have Haven, Adrift, and Longbow listed on the official halo website at the moment.  More details there have been revealed on Tactical, and Support packages.  Included are such passive abilities as faster shield recharge rate, and the ability to watch radar while you are scoped in with a long range weapon.

They also revealed more armor abilities such as the Hardlight shield (basically an energy riot shield), and the Thruster Pack which appears to be a short term high speed boost instead of a sustained lift like the jet pack.
