Nice preview on the upcoming sequel.
This may have already been posted on the old site, so apologies if so.

Your return to Rapture will be a bit delayed, as publisher Take-Two Interactive announced today that BioShock 2 won't be releasing in the company's fourth quarter as previously planned. Now for the bad news.

While the game was previously slated to hit European store shelves on October 30, 2009, just squeezing into the company's fiscal 2009, the company has now moved the title to a more vague "fiscal year 2010." The sequel was expected to arrive on these shores November 3rd, a few days after its ship date in Europe.

Now, BioShock 2 could very well be pushed into calendar 2010, missing the holidays completely.

Officially, Take-Two blames the delay on the need to "provide additional development time for the title."

I guess if they need more time... they better make it good!

I was just about to post this myself, you beat me to it!

Had a feeling this might happen, I don't think needing more development time is the problem, Modern Warfare 2 being released around the same time is the problem.

I suppose it eases some of the pressure of the holiday rush, as I recall November alone had Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Bioshock 2 (not anymore) thats 160 quid in one month! :o

The "Holiday" season is oversaturated with AAA game releases.  I like that EA and some other publishers took some chances on Spring/Summer releases this year.  Hopefully more will show some balls next year.

I have a hard time keeping up with new releases, especially when they all come out at the same time.  I just don't have enough free time to play them all.  They would get more of my money if they release more AAA titles during the slower months.  If not, I always end up buying them used 6 months after they come out when I have free time.

Update: Reuters is reporting that while the firm didn't specify a new release date, spokesman Alan Lewis said it would be released in the first half of calendar 2010. Update out
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I've had it right up to here with them.

2K Games has announced February 9th 2010 as the release date for BioShock 2.
It's a worldwide release, so that isn't just the US date but the date for us UK mob too.

The announcement reads: Currently in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows LIVE, BioShock 2 will deliver two unique, yet intertwined experiences that form the perfect blend of explosive first-person shooter combat, compelling storytelling and intense multiplayer action.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 will provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive, as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.
