Has anyone seen Avatar? I was thinking of going to see it tonight because everybody's been saying how brilliant it is, but everyone who's been raving about it are non sci-fan fans. The one sci-fan who has seen it has said it was really boring, and being a sci-fi fan myself I just have this feeling that I'm going to find it really dull. It is a James Cameron film though, and his previous sci-fi films (Aliens, Terminator, terminator 2, The Abyss) have been really enjoyable.

Thank god for the new Tomb Raider, helped me de-stress after a tough week! More of the same please

Personally I went to go see this and after 3 hours and special effects I was just left with a headach the movie was far too long, but they say it's about the experience more than anything  :)

You could just download it for free if you can't be arsed to go cinemas  ;)

I did that & it's a fantastic copy too, i've not seen it yet but quite a few friends have and they are split on how good the film is, my sister who wouldn't normally watch these kind of films loved it, my brother and his mates loved it too, but then a few friends who watch pretty much everything said it was too long and a bit boring but still something you have to see because of the special effects, they preferred the excellent District 9 to Avatar, I think I might be in that same boat when I finally get round to watching it, District 9 is fokken amazing  ;D

I enjoyed the story.  It's Braveheart + Dances With Wolves + FernGully.   ;D

I don't think the special effects were as big of a deal as the media made it out to be.  But as a person that plays videogames, you will certainly appreciate the detail they put into the CG characters' skin / flesh textures & physics.  It's equally (if not more) impressive as the best Square-Enix CG.

I watched this a while back, i regretted watching it in 3d as i am afraid of height's and as anybody who has seen it will tell you there is a lot of "big drops" to be seen.
Pretty epic but pretty corny at the same time

Just found out from someone at work that it's an environmental film, are there no space battles, laser rifles, evil aliens etc. ? I've got to say just reading the synopsis on IMDB that it sounds dull as dishwater!  :(

There's some decent action in the final act, but the first 1/2 of the movie is basically a love / political story.

I just remembered, Kevin Smith has a HEE-LAY-REE-US podcast commenting on Avatar.

LoveCats (warning:  it get's a little ... colorful)

Very funny, but probably not until after you've seen the film.

it is, the film was crap, not the effects or the action heavy final scene, but it's all so obvious. Even someone who has never watched a movie can tell the story 30 mins before it's going to happen.

Oh jeez! And this is in 3-D? How can you make 3D elements of a love story... hang on a minute, when you say love story???

It is.

I predict by this time next year, I will communicate by posting pictures only.  No more words for Neato.
