Saints Row 3 is 'outrageous, over the top'
Next instalment to keep the fun, has enhanced tech and feel, says THQ
Saints Row 3 is set to keep the series' trademark "outrageous and over the top fun", THQ's said.
Speaking during a conference call last night, CEO Brian Farrell told investors that developer Volition is enhancing the technology, look and feel of the game - and an "innovative" marketing campaign is being prepped to push it.
"We expect the next instalment of Saints Row to be a significant growth driver in fiscal 2012. We've completely enhanced the technology, look and feel of this multi-million unit franchise while keeping its outrageous and over the top fun," he said.
"We're developing an innovative marketing campaign including an extensive transmedia strategy for this title. We also plan to expand the Saints Row brand on Facebook, Xbox Live Arcade and PSN, in addition to providing premium online content."
The transmedia push of course includes XBLA and PSN title Saints Row: Drive By plus plans to release a Saints Row movie.
We still don't know much about the third instalment, though THQ core games boss Danny Bilson's talked it up, claiming it
matches GTA IV graphically
and generally
looks mindblowing
.
It's due out next Autumn.

Saints Row 3 announcement tonight?
Big news soon, says THQ ahead of earnings results this evening
Fans of Saints Row may not have to wait too much longer to hear about the third game in THQ's open-world action series.
After a fan asked THQ's core games boss Danny Bilson when he can expect some news about Saints Row 3, Bilson responded via Twitter, saying: "Big announcement coming soon."
Coincidentally, THQ will be having an earnings conference call later today, so we wouldn't be surprised if there was a Saints Row 3 related announcement during that.
Saints Row developer Volition is currently working on Red Faction: Armageddon, Red Faction: Battlegrounds and also Guillermo del Toro's inSANE.
Saints Row: Drive By for Nintendo 3DS, Xbox Live Arcade and PSN
recently suffered a hiccup
and has been taken back to the drawing board to make it more "unique".

I really enjoyed the first two. Just something about having an obese woman with a black man's voice taunting people by puking on them really got me into the game
I hope the PC controls for 3 are better than they were for 2. It was obviously meant for a controller. Or, maybe I could just buy it on console.

Saints Row 3 reveal next month?
THQ Core games EVP teases "HUGE announcement"
THQ will be making a "HUGE" announcement next month, says THQ's Core Games Exec VP, Danny Bilson. Could it be... Saint's Row 3?
"Look for a HUGE announcement from us the second week in March!" says Bilson in a Twitter post minutes ago.
"Will come with lots of content," he promises.
Bilson has been talking up its excitement for the Saint's Row sequel in the past few months, promising a game as visually rich as GTA IV, but one that clearly differentiates itself, and that is 'outrageous' and 'over the top'.
THQ told CVG is had made the decision to hold off releasing SR3 until 2011 for "quality" purposes, promising the extra time is an investment in 'the technology'.
Excited?

I'm receiving SR2 in a trade. Looking forward to finally playing it.
Depending on how well I like it, SR3 may be on my buylist.

Saints Row 3 images, new title leak
Saints Row 3 is reportedly called Saints Row: The Third.
That's according to what looks like genuine promotional art, leaked by a forum poster on
NeoGAF
.
One poster reveals the game's tagline: "Strap it on holiday 2011."
Publisher THQ had already confirmed an autumn release for the over-the-top open world action sandbox.
"Volition is setting a new bar for this outstanding franchise and we look forward to unveiling this game in the near future," CEO Brian Farrell said earlier this month.
"I have been placed under a very tight gag order by our Saints Row team. Hang in there: you're going to love it."
The last game in the series, Saints Row 2, launched in October 2008, winning a glowing 9/10 endorsement from Eurogamer.

THQ reveals Saints Row: The Third
After weeks of leaks and scraps of facts, THQ has formerly announced Saints Row: The Third.
Volition will develop for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and the game will arrive "this holiday season". That's autumn, not the summer when Brits fly abroad to tan their tums and tatts.
Saints Row pumps the Grand Theft Auto formula full of steroids, preferring explosive out and out gang warfare and manic customisation to any semblance of realism. And Saints Row 2, released 2008, was terrific, taking an enormous 9/10 from Eurogamer.
"There's no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm," quipped THQ core games boss Danny Bilson.
THQ hired porn star Tera Patrick to help promote Saints Row 2. That'll be a hard one to beat.

New Saints Row 3 details
Airstrike Mexicans, fight military with sex toy
THQ's revealed more details on Saints Row: The Third, which was officially announced last night.
According to the publisher's 'sell sheet', the third game will have players, among other things, fighting off a highly-trained military force using just a sex toy. There's some box art here too.
Here's the blurb:
"Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you.
"The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control.
"Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using only a sex toy in the most out- landish gameplay scenarios ever seen, igniting a city-wide war that will set Steelport on fire. Strap it on."
Good stuff. THQ has been talking up the Saint's Row sequel for some months, promising a game as visually rich as GTA IV, but one that clearly differentiates itself, and that is 'outrageous' and 'over the top'.

If anyone has forgotten how awesome Saints Row II was, I encourage them to look up Criken's YouTube clip of Saints Row II. It pretty much sums the game up perfectly.

Saints Row 3 screenshots gush all over the web
Sex Toy Bat features prominently
The first Saints Row 3 screenshots came at the beginning of the month and showed a masked gunman and a few weapon renders.
Now a whole host of new Saints Row 3 screenshots have been released on to the web by Game Informer showing everything from alleyway shootouts to combat with the 'Sex Toy Bat' - basically a big wobbling member that you can hit your foes with.
Volition's third in the series is titled exactly that; Saints Row: The Third and we got the first details earlier this month.
Of the features included in The Third, competitive multiplayer was axed by Volition in favour of co-op in response to what the studio felt the fans wanted.
