Krueger Gets a Documentary

Members of the creative team behind His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th have joined forces once again to bring horror fans the ultimate tribute to yet another landmark slasher series, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy officially began lensing on August 22, 2009, in and around Los Angeles. Starring and narrated by Heather Langenkamp, star of the 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street and two of its sequels (1986's Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare), this thrilling 90-minute retrospective promises to be the definitive look at the making of the iconic horror series and the enduring legacy of its wise-cracking, razor-gloved villain: the indefatigable "bastard son of a hundred maniacs" known as Freddy Krueger.

In addition to the exhaustive feature-length documentary, the two-disc DVD release of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will feature over four hours of nightmare-inducing extras, including the original documentary I Am Nancy, written, produced and directed by star Heather Langenkamp, which looks back at the last 25 years since her debut as heroine Nancy Thompson and examines the impact of the Elm Street films on young people's lives.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will be released in the spring of 2010.

For fans of Freddy Krueger, this is news that will likely have them doing cartwheels. His Name Was Jason was an absolutely phenomenal retrospective on the Friday the 13th franchise and that the same people who did that are doing one for the Elm Street series makes me very excited. I'd be very interested to see the piece by Langenkamp, who I always thought should have had the chance to break into something outside of the franchise but never managed to do so. If you have any doubts about this documentary being great, just check out His Name Was Jason. You won't be disappointed.

Kane & Lynch film to star Bruce Willis

The producer of the Kane & Lynch movie has confirmed Bruce Willis will take a starring role.

According to Adrian Askarieh, speaking to Game Daily, Willis will play the first-half of the dynamic duo. The role of Lynch is yet to be cast.

"The script has been incredibly well-received around town," said Askarieh. "After Bruce Willis read it, he called it one of the best action scripts he's ever read, and Bruce is an expert in terms of action scripts because he's read everything over the last 20 years."

So what's it about? "Well, it's going to have the basic premise. But the details for the movie are going to be different. It's not going to have every sequence from the game, but it's essentially the story of a mercenary teaming up with a schizophrenic psychopath to save his wife and daughter." Wasn't that the plot of last week's Archers?

Kane & Lynch is due to start shooting in March. Locations are yet to be confirmed, but Askarieh's thinking "South America, Europe and possibly Louisiana". The director will be Simon Crane. He was second unit director on Tomb Raider and Troy, amongst other blockbusters.

Askarieh has much experience of this kind of thing, having previously produced the rubbish but high-grossing Hitman movie. He is also working on the big screen adaptation of Just Cause, another Eidos product.

"Just Cause is a great action-adventure spy movie, which is a totally different motif than Hitman," he observed.

"Hitman is a great assassin movie, Kane and Lynch is a great buddy action movie. So all these are first-and-foremost good movie ideas, then videogames."

I read rumours about him appearing in the film ages ago but then there was never any new news on the topic, until now.

Same.

I just figured it was simply a rumor because the character resembled Bruce Willis.  Sort of like the Gears of War / Batista rumor.

Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

Jill Valentine In Resident Evil: Afterlife?

Actress Sienna Guillory appeared in flick Resident Evil: Apocalypse as character Jill Valentine, but was M.I.A. in the third film, Resident Evil: Extinction. Rumors have it that there was a contract dispute with the actress.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson is currently filming Resident Evil: Afterlife and star Milla Jovovich tweeted this tidbit: "Valentine MAY be back." That also means she may not be back.

Perhaps, Guillory worked out her contract issues or perhaps the producers are bringing on another actress altogether to play Valentine.

One obvious thing comes to mind when I see this picture ...

That shoulder holster has to be uncomfortable on bare skin.   :-\
