New Resident Evil Movie Release Moved *Again*

Originally, the upcoming Resident Evil film, subtitled "Afterlife", was penciled in for August 27, 2010. Then there were rumors, which the film's star Milla Jovovich denied, that the movie would be released in January 2011.

Then it actually got delayed. The RE flick was then scheduled to go up against MGM's upcoming horror film Cabin in the Woods. This would have meant digital 3D screens (both movies are 3D) would have been split.

The reason for the push was the extra time needed in post production for the movie's special effects. However, it now appears that Afterlife director Paul W.S. Anderson won't need extra time for the effects, and the movie is now on for September 10th.

The previous two Resident Evil movies were released in September as well.

The first 3 films were absolutely awful, cancelling the 4th movie completely would be a better idea  ;D

The U.S. loves Ricky Gervais.

Over the past few weeks, there's been a quasi Civil War between late night hosts Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno regarding NBC contracts, scheduling, etc.

Last week, Ricky Gervais was a guest on Conan O'Brien's show and he threw a barrel of gas to that fire.  I love that he approaches sensitive topics with a I-don't-give-a-f*** attitude, but with calculated surgical precision.  It's art.

Neato, If you have never seen Gervais doing his stand up I would highly recommend it. Especially Animals.

Mass Effect movie a possibility, says BioWare

"Huh?" you say, confused by the very prospect of the Mass Effect trilogy getting the film treatment. Dont' worry buddy, we're right there with you. The BioWare space RPG may be getting just that, though, according to Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hundson in a recent interview with MTV. "Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect," Hudson said.

Thankfully, Hudson followed up his statement with a conditional position for the possibility of a Mass Effect film. "The most important thing for us is, we don't just want to see a movie get made ... we want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all." We have but one humble request should a movie ever be made of the series: it goes fully 3D -- if only for text trees in the third dimension.

That's a shame.

Miramax films laid a lot of the groundwork for introducing mass audiences to indie films.  Some of my favorite movies as a teenager were released by Miramax.

Rest in peace, good friend.

Pulp Fiction, Clerks, The Crying Game, Heavenly Creatures, Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, Dogma to name but a few.

They also had the distribution rights to the awesome Jet Li movie Hero, though they sat on it for a couple of years first, i'd already had it on R3 dvd for about 18 months before Miramax released it internationally.  Same goes for Stephen Chow's excellent Shaolin Soccer.
