Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:41:25 PM »
Ubisoft Announces Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

At the beginning of the month, we reported that a new Prince of Persia was in development and was set to be unveiled in spring 2010. It appears that the initial reports may have confused that somewhat, and instead, it seems that the title is actually scheduled for a spring 2010 release. We presume, alongside the film.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was announced by Ubisoft today and is currently scheduled for a May 2010 release. The press release is fairly vague and really offers no insight into the game, except it seems that the franchise is heading back to the Sands of Time storyline.

Apparently, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands "will feature many of the fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand." Ooooh, you've got to love cryptic press release!

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is set for May 2010 release.

Yay! I loved all the PoP games(obviously not including the stupidly hard original), even the awkward first game, the short 3rd game, the mega easy 4th game ... but the stunning Prince of Persia: Warrior Within makes up for all that for being the best platforming game since Tomb Raider 1.

I never played it, but I always loved the boxart whenever I saw it on the shelf at my local game store.

You can catch the game's premiere trailer on Spike TV's Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8 p.m. EST. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is scheduled for release on "consoles and handhelds" in May 2010.

Prince of Persia dialogue writer wins UK Writer's Guild award

The 2008 reboot of the Prince of Persia franchise (which, apparently, is getting shut down) featured some of the most enjoyable snark and pith we've ever heard in a video game. Fortunately, Andy Walsh, the man responsible for the Prince and Elika's sharp-tongued exchanges, was recently recognized for his witty dialogue when he won the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Games Award last night in London.

Normally, this is where we'd drop in a quote from Walsh about how excited he was to receive the award, but it doesn't seem that anyone initiated the optional dialogue with him following the Writers' Guild awards ceremony. Too bad, something tells us we've missed out on the best part.

Prince Of Persia: Forgotten Sands Is A Prequel And A Sequel

Ubisoft reveals new details about Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, a game set between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, granting the Prince power over the forces of nature, which he will conveniently forget by the second game.

The problem with interjecting a video game between two previously released titles is we can pretty much assume the new title ends with a total memory wipe. Unless Ubisoft decides to release a new version of Warrior Within with references to Forgotten Sands, that'll probably be the case. We can't have the Prince simply deciding not to use the natural powers he'll be using in Forgotten Sands, can we?

After the events in The Sands of Time, the Prince goes to visit his brother's kingdom, only to find it besieged by the forces of evil. Using the powers of the Sands to save the kingdom from annihilation kicks off an adventure in which the Prince will learn what Spider-Man already knows; with great power comes great responsibility.

Expect epic moments, tons of acrobatics, and refined combat, all rendered lovingly in the Anvil game engine.

The game is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and DS, with the last three featuring a different gaming experience than the more powerful platforms. Expect more details on what that means as we inch closer to the game's May 2010 release.

Rumour: The Forgotten Sands may include Prince of Persia Classic

According to a BBFC listing, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands may include a special bonus -- Prince of Persia Classic. Unfortunately, the listing isn't enough to discern whether the classic version would be the same game now available on Xbox Live and PSN, or if it's part of some kind of special edition package.

When asked for comment, a Ubisoft representative told Joystiq it would not comment on rumors. Although our questions remain unanswered, at least we can look forward to the Sands of Time prince coming to the HD era and answering a few other questions.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands gameplay footage revealed; game coming to PC in June

Phew, we can all relax now. According to this first gameplay footage from Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, all concerns that the new game would forgo elements of exploration and environmental puzzle-solving -- and just go all-out "Bruckheimer" -- should be allayed. Plus, The Prince totally has some Andy Gibb hair going on. That's awesome, right?

The Forgotten Sands puts our Prince in his brother's neighboring kingdom during a great conflict. As a last-ditch effort to ensure the survival of the kingdom, the two release the Sands of Time, which saves everyone ... but also unleashes dark horrors. Uh-oh.

In PoP news, Eurogamer reports the PC version will release in June, a month after the console installments (due May 18). This is nothing new for Ubisoft, as the publisher followed the same protocol with staggered releases of both Assassin's Creed games. And if waiting an extra month hasn't deterred your goal to play The Forgotten Sands on the PC, know that it will also include Ubisoft's internet-based DRM solution -- something to keep in mind.

Ezio in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Assassin's Creed hero makes the leap into Ubisoft's other platformer...

Assassin's Creed hero Ezio can be found in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

More specifically, you can play through the game using an Ezio skin.

You have to select Uplay from the main menu and log in with your Ubisoft account. From the Win tab, you can download the Ezio skin which costs 30 'Uplay Units', earned by playing through The Forgotten Sands. There's also a free time attack arena to download.

It's Ubisoft's way of enticing you into the Uplay section of The Forgotten Sands, as Uplay figures to play a bigger part in upcoming Ubisoft games. Still, if you want that Ezio skin, there's no other way to nab it.
