Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
« on: August 30, 2012, 05:38:20 AM »
Metal Gear Solid 5 is Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes - the first open world Metal Gear
New Metal Gear breaks cover at anniversary event

They fought to keep it under wraps but Twitter just wouldn't keep its mouth shut - the next Metal Gear Solid title is Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, and - brace for impact - it's an open world game.

Ground Zeroes was shown off to audiences at the 25th Metal Gear Solid Anniversary event in Tokyo this morning. The game runs on the studio's proprietary FOX Engine, which is optimised for multiplatform development, and is targeting Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

In a demonstration video, said to be "running on a PC at current-gen specs", an unknown character was shown infiltrating a camp at night time, dispatching guards, avoiding searchlights and (finally) making off in a jeep. Cut-scenes were in-engine, and reportedly "amazing". Thanks to VG247 for keeping its ear to the ground.

Eurogamer reports that the game's protagonist is war veteran Big Boss, father to the original Solid Snake, which could point to a 1970s timeframe. We've got some images of the man, care of Andriasang, looking very much in the pink. What do you reckon?

Just when you thought the Metal Gear storyline couldn't get anymore absurd ... Solid Snake's father is Sam Fisher!

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Pain_%28video_game%29
After the teaser trailer aired, numerous video game-related websites and fansites reported the trailer's seemed connection to the Metal Gear series of video games. Although the trailer presented the game as being developed by Moby Dick Studio, there were a few hints that The Phantom Pain may have some connection to Kojima Productions and the Metal Gear series due to the protagonist's resemblance to Big Boss, as well as the head of Moby Dick Studio, Joakim Mogren's first name was an anagram of "Kojima". In addition, it was also discovered from the whois search engine that the studio didn't even exist until roughly two weeks prior to the trailer's official release. It was discovered that the title "Metal Gear Solid V" fits perfectly in the indents and negative space above the game's logo if using the exact same font and it was noted that the in-game graphics portrayed in the trailer bore close resemblance to those of the Fox Engine.

The Phantom Pain and MGS: Ground Zeroes are Metal Gear Solid V: It's Official

"From FOX two Phantoms were born... FOX vs. XOF" It's another somewhat cryptic trailer for The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, but it makes one thing completely clear. The two games combined are Metal Gear Solid V, according to a new video that's just been debuted at GDC in San Francisco.

Snake awakes from a nine-year coma in the vid, and must get out of the hospital as he's attacked by unknown enemies. He'll start by crawling, before standing up and gaining composure to be able to make good his escape. Metal Gear Solid V is an open-world Metal Gear title, and it sounds like David Hayter could be out as the iconic voice of Snake. Noooo!

Kojima Productions went on to show gameplay footage of Snake awakening from his coma, helped by a man with a bandaged face who sounds remarkably like Kiefer Sutherland. The gameplay is all running on PC for now, but it looks like Metal Gear Solid V may well be a next-gen console title. More as we get it!

Metal Gear Solid V: David Hayter Says He Wasn't Asked to Lend His Voice

Well, it seems that it's official. David Hayter, who's been the voice of Snake's various incarnations from Solid Snake to Naked Snake and Old Solid Snake, won't be returning as Snake/Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

"Well look, At least I had a good run" Hayter said on Twitter last night, putting an end to speculation surrounding whether he would or wouldn't be reprising his role as the iconic voice of Metal Gear Solid's protagonist.

"Did they even ask you to do it?" one fan asked on Twitter, to which Hayter simply replied, "Nope".

So, there you have it. David Hayter will not be in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, thus ending an era of gravel-voiced greatness. Shame.

Kiefer Sutherland Playing Snake in Metal Gear Solid V

Konami has revealed that 24 star Kiefer Sutherland will play Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

"I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice rather than words," creator Hideo Kojima said. "Furthermore, the game takes place in 1984 when Snake is 49 years old. Therefore, we needed someone who could genuinely convey both the facial and vocal qualities of a man in his late 40s. It's different from anything we've done before."
