Call of Duty: World War II

Leaked Marketing Materials May Have Revealed Call Of Duty: World War II - Report

Call of Duty may be going back to its World War II roots if marketing materials leaked by Youtuber TheFamilyVideoGamers are anything to go by.

The Youtuber uploaded a video on Thursday last week that suggests marketing materials were emailed to him by an anonymous source last week. The materials suggest that the next Call of Duty game will be going back to World War II, a la Battlefield's shift last year back to World War I.

Alongside a poster showing off some art for the rumoured game, there are also four steelbook concepts showing scenes reminiscent of the D-Day landings - the video cycles through all these images. Note that the font is the same from prospective developer Sledgehammer Games' last CoD title, Advanced Warfare.

Whilst the source is unverified and the materials could very well be fake, it's worth noting that Activision noted to its investors in February that the next entry in the series will 'take [the franchise] back to its roots'. The leaked materials seem to support that claim.

It's also interesting to note that last year, both Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare: Remastered were leaked prior to their official announcement - that was at the same time of year. For reference, Call of Duty games are usually revealed in early May and launch in November.

I'll delete this when Activision confirm yet another crappy futuristic shooter!

It's (allegedly) a pseudo-copy cat world I guess, huh?

Looks like the SP story could be getting a bit more serious attention this time around. Something about the recent games and their trailers all gave the impression they just glossed over that part of the game. Not setting any expectations, but (could be said) hopeful start with that reveal. ???

Please let this be a proper COD. Can't stand all the sh*t that's been churned out.

Wasn't sure anything could do this, but I've just been playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising this week - and it's actually made me look forward to some numbingly straight-forward CoDuty, man Dragon Rising was unforgiving in spots.

Private beta starts this weekend on PS4 and next weekend on Xbox One, managed to get a code for the Xbox version.  Seen a few multiplayer vids so far and it definitely looks better than recent COD games, IGN said it's basically a 2017 version of COD2, sounds good to me.
