Kinect Star Wars
« on: December 03, 2009, 11:59:46 AM »
"Don't cross the arms"

Ghostbusters developer Terminal Reality is working on a motion-controlled game for Project Natal, according to a recent job listing.

Spotted by Google sleuth superannuation, the listing for a Senior Animation Programmer seeks someone to develop "animation tools and technologies that pertain to fighting style games" with a view to "solving some difficult problems for an exciting AAA Natal title."

The ad also specifies the job involving online multiplayer, but it includes PS3 in the same line so we're not going to take that quite as seriously.

Given that Ghostbusters did a brilliant job of recreating the business of wrangling ghosts around the screen using a joypad, we like the sound of Terminal Reality doing something similar with the Project Natal sensor. Maybe that'll be licenced too - Jackie Chan: The Game, perhaps?

The ad's one of many that have cropped up in recent months as studios kick off Natal development, which suggests that the expected autumn launch will have plenty of games behind it. Expect a few more bits of news before the end of the year.

I would be naive to not be a little pessimistic about Natal and its likely failure, but I have to admit I am impressed with the launch / early support it's receiving from the industry.

Perhaps Microsoft is paying a portion of development costs for the first line of Natal games to encourage developers and publishers?  Perhaps the industry is authentically excited about Natal?

Either way, you can't ignore that attention Natal is getting.  That has to be a good thing for videogames in general.

Blockbuster doing midnight star wars kinect launch

Blockbuster Clapham will hold a midnight launch event for Star Wars Kinect this Monday evening/Tuesday morning.

The first five people in line will get a free Limited Edition Star Wars Xbox 360, worth £340 (from Blockbuster).

The next 45 people who buy Kinect Star Wars will be given Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray for free. That costs around £90.

Blockbuster will also offer Kinect Star Wars for 99 pence when you trade Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, FIFA Street, Streetfighter X Tekken, Twisted Metal, Ninja Gaiden 3, Asura's Wrath, Ridge Racer Unbounded or Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.

With GAME and Gamestation teetering on the edge, it's not been clear which companies - if any - would step in to fill the midnight openings void. Blockbuster now appears to have stated its intent.

The newly reinstated GAME and Gamestation websites currently list the Limited Edition Star Wars Xbox 360 and the Kinect Star Wars game. Shop staff, however, told Eurogamer this afternoon they were unsure whether they will or won't be selling the fancypants console. 'Check back on Monday' was the overriding message from those stores contacted.
