Indie Corner
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:10:21 AM »
I never look at Indie Games, but my mate showed me one that's quite amusing. It's called Avatar Drop. As the name might suggest, it involves your avatar falling and smashing into walls and giant balls, accompanied by some hilarious cries of pain. There's also a point to the game, scoring points for going through rings of various sizes, but the fun is just causing as much pain as possible to your avatar!  ;D

Short trailer...

Not 100% sure, but I think if you buy the game for 80 points, there is 4 player online.

I thought MS rules stated the Avatars can't be made to go squish! Wonder if it'll get banned like that Breakout clone with the sex0r woman behind the bricks?

Been waiting for someone to ask...love indie games.  I've got quite a few.

Favourites (in no order) would be:

 - Twin Blades, zombie survival game
 - Decay, possibly my favourite.  Very creepy point & click game, eerie music.  It's full title is Decay: Part 1 but alas no sign of Part 2 yet.
 - Apple Jack, old school 2D puzzle/platform game.  Levels are locations around the UK, little repetitive but I enjoyed it.

Also heard very good things about:
- I MAED A GAME WITH ZOMBIES
- Shoot 1UP

There's a wierd game where you build a Lemonade making business from scratch, not in a fun SimCity way but all finances, spreadsheets etc.  I tried the demo and although it was different I couldn't get into it.

I've read good things about Apple Jack, so i'll probably stint for that as well. Twin Blades also looks very good, i have the demo but alas, never played it :/

I've been readng up and am also gonna check out Along Came A Spider, CarneyVale and Halfbrick Echoes.

On your advice, I will also try Decay (which looks eerie, like you said) and Shoot1Up.

Its a real shame they dont give them a token 50G's or something.  Because the XBL mainstream dont go near the Indie section and there's some great games in there.

Spose thats the down-side of achievments.

Among the obvious many releases this week, Luke should be very happy to hear that Decay Part 2 has been released for 240msp.

Also Lumi, the 2010 DreamBuildPlay Winner, is available. Lumi is a smal creature with powers of light and magnetism out to save the world from darkness. It's a shining example of what Indie Games can produce. Being 400msp though, it's also one of the dearest Indie Games.

EDIT: Far better than most XBLA releases!!! Lumi is a great platform puzzler, if you like Braid and Winterbottom give this a look, i really enjoyed the demo. A wonderfully charming game. If i never had tonnes of XBLA games to play i wuld defo get this, but i need to atleast finish Winterbottom first.

someone make it XBLA and gimme achieves, i'll pay 800 for it!
