Red Faction: Armageddon
« on: April 27, 2010, 04:46:20 AM »
This news is a couple of months old but I don't think it's been posted yet.

Red Faction, Homefront before April 2011

THQ boss Brian Farrell has promised to show the new Red Faction: Guerrilla game at E3 2010 this summer.

The as yet unnamed follow-up will be released in the publisher's next financial year (April 2010 - March 2011). Farrell said all this in a recent investor call, his favourite place for new announcements, the rogue.

There's no official word what to expect, although a more fully-rounded experience built on the same technology RF Guerrilla technology seems like a good guess. Strong sequels appear to be a feature of this generation, what with Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II and Mass Effect 2 doing so well.

Farrell also said Homefront will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 before April 2011.

That's the shooter set 20 years in the future when North Korea has invaded and occupied the US. Kaos, developer of Frontlines: Fuel of War, is at the helm, and there's even talk of sequel already. Must be confident. Our Homefront preview can tell you more.

Red Faction: Armageddon detailed

THQ has revealed that Red Faction: Armageddon is the name of the sequel to last year's Guerrilla and that it's due out in March 2011 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

A trailer released on Friday - viewable below - reveals that, years after the events of Guerrilla, mankind has been forced from the surface of Mars into its ancient mines by the loss of the planet's vital terraforming technology.

However, worse is to come for Darius Mason - grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya from Guerrilla - when in his job as a scavenger he accidentally wakes up some of the locals and puts the future of mankind in jeopardy.

Mason will need to save his fellow colonists, reclaim territory, create alien weapons out of artefacts and sort out the stirring fauna.

Judging by the trailer, he will do this in the series' time-honoured tradition of blowing big chunks out of things - no doubt harnessing an updated version of the excellent GeoMod 2.0 tech from Guerrilla.

On top of that we're promised a new extermination mode where four players repel waves of enemies online. Sounds like a regular day at the office to us.

New Screens

THQ's put out a new set of Red Faction: Armageddon screenshots, which mainly consist of alien insides flying through the air.

It's blasters at the ready as the Mars Colonists struggle for survival in the underground mines after the surface is rendered uninhabitable and they have some alien visitors.

Red Faction: Armageddon delayed

THQ's delayed Red Faction: Armageddon to May 2011 to bolster its financial 2012 line-up.

MX vs. ATV Alive will arrive in spring 2011 and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine in summer 2011, while Saints Row 3 and a new WWE title are coming in autumn 2011 and the next UFC title wont be here until early 2012, THQ confirmed last night.

Red Faction: Armageddon was expected in March 2011. Players take control of Darius Mason - grandson of the bloke from Red Faction: Guerrilla - and find themselves in a pitched battle against an alien threat deep under the surface of Mars in huge, destructible environments.

Saints Row 3, also from RFA developer Volition, is a lesser-known quantity but if Saints Row 2 is anything to go by then it will be astoundingly bonkers.

Red Faction: Armageddon Trailer is a Martian Treat

Red Faction: Armageddon is taking the fight from the Martian desert tundra to the underground caverns of the red planet, where there lurks a terrifying insectoid alien threat. As if the facist dictatorial EDF weren't enough to contend with.

As new hero Darius Mason, you'll blast your way through swathes of spindly alien enemies while destroying plenty of underground structures along the way, so look out for load-bearing buildings, lest the entire cave drop on your head. We're almost certain that won't happen, however.

Check out the new action-packed trailer, then keep your big hammers primed and ready to smash stuff up when Red Faction: Armageddon launches in March 2011.

Red Faction: Armageddon demo next week
THQ confirms May 3 trial

THQ's announced that a playable demo of Red Faction: Armageddon will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN (if it's up) on May 3.

The shooter casts you in the boots of lead protagonist Darius Mason with the mission of battling to save the human race on the planet Mars from a "greater evil".

There'll be more physics-based weaponry, powered by Volition's Geo-Mod 2.0 tech and plenty of earth moving, shooting action both above and below the surface.

In the trial players will be able to battle aliens with the Nano Forge and Red Faction's signature weapon, the Magnet Gun, the publisher says.

The full game's out on 360, PS3 and PC on May 31 in the US and June 3 in UK.

There's no word on a PC demo yet.
