Modern Warfare 3 announcement coming next month - report
UK magazine PSM3 points to mid-April reveal

The first snippet of Modern Warfare 3 gameplay may be with us next month, according to respected UK PlayStation magazine PSM3.

According to the publication's latest issue, insider rumours say "the next in Activision's megaton FPS series will be announced in mid-April". No specific date is given.

The prediction would fit snugly with Activision's CoD: Black Ops reveal from 2010, which snuck out on April 30 - as the publisher lifted the lid on the game's official website.

Rumours from Official PlayStation Magazine UK suggest that Modern Warfare 3 may contain at least some sections linking back to the past of popular character Ghost.

PSM3 adds: "Based on the ending of MW2, we'd be surprised if the story doesn't pick up with Soap and Price on the run, after they were set up by General Shepherd."

The game's sure to have some stiff competition if it comes out towards the end of the year as expected - not least from EA's Battlefield 3.

Swedish creator DICE suggested last month that its competitors in the FPS space had been "treading water" with recent releases.

Meanwhile, the May 2011 issue of PSM3 contains an exclusive, lengthy first look at Saints Row: The Third and an amazing 22-page shooter special.

Modern Warfare 3 Rumors Squashed

[source]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 already has a rumored November release date and today a screenshot surfaced that attempted to show a leaked screenshot from inside the beta for the game. They seem to show a former Infinity Ward employee at one of the menu screens ... but whoever created this image made a big mistake. Read on to find out more.

First of all, SFUKUDA seems to point to a former Infinity Ward employee named, Steve Fukuda. Fukuda was Modern Warfare 2's lead designer. One problem is that Steve left Infinity Ward for Respawn Entertainment like many of the key Modern Warfare team members. So why would he be playing Modern Warfare 3?

But, here's a bigger clue. Look at where SFUKUDA is supposedly signed into Microsoft's PartnerNet.

BING! Ah, the intricacies of ParnterNet. Next time, we expect some better Photoshop work.

Following last week's leak, Activision is turning a pitfall into profit.

Starting with a reveal trailer.

For a game that I was determined not to buy into the hype this time round, That trailer did a nice job of trying to persuade me otherwise, I want to play the England level. :'(

Ditto.

I'll pick up MW3 used a few months after release just to play the campaign.  I have no interest in the MP.

Modern Warfare 3's Spec Ops co-op mode is getting special attention for the upcoming sequel, co-developers Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have announced.

As well as a new progressive ranking system, online matchmaking system and leaderboards, there's also a new Survival Mode which plays out on the game's multiplayer maps, rather than on the single player stages as in MW2.

"All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer," Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling told USA Today.

It sounds like a standard survival mode, with you having to fend off unlimited waves of enemies. On the "Dome" map described, they graduate from attack dogs, to suicide bomber dogs, to kamikaze soldiers, to juggernauts as the round progresses.

The developers hope the refinements will make Spec Ops the perfect way for hesitant users to graduate from single player to the game's full multiplayer modes.

"There's such hard-core players out there in the online community and you hear all the stories about the eight-year-olds, 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds swearing and ruining the experience," said Sledgehammer's Michael Condrey.

"With Spec Ops, you can really get in there and hone your skills in a more confined environment. I think it's a little more of an easy entry. I don't have as much time as I did when I was 20 to be honing my twitch skills, but this certainly gives me a venue to experiment."

Infinity Ward's creative strategist Robert Bowling has said that there will be no Commando perk in Modern Warfare 3.

Commando, a perk in Modern Warfare 2 that increases your melee range, is loathed and loved by those taking the punishment and those dishing it out respectively.

But Robert Bowling, replying to a question on Twitter about the future of melee in Modern Warfare 3, said that "Commando is no longer in the game".

This may come as a blow to those of you that enjoyed cutting some other fool without having to actually go near him. But it should make Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer a more restrained, civilized affair, especially given
Bowling's other comments that the multiplayer is going to feel more like Call of Duty 4 than Modern Warfare 2.

That'll do for me, now if only they could make it feel like COD3 then they'd be onto a winner!   8)
