Fighting Games - Fight Club?
« on: March 16, 2012, 10:41:41 AM »
Just curious if there'd be any interest in a sort of fight club here on 360df?

community game nights are great as they are, focusing on team based games, but fighting games tend to be overlooked, such as UFC, Tekken, Street Fighter ect. as these are based on 1 v 1 matches

in this i am meaning in addition to games nights (lot of fluidity on time, whenever both can make it, and games, whatever both people have)

could also make it slightly competitive too like a league or knockout system.

just wanted to sound folk out here to see if there'd be any interest before i try and come up with a system.

any thoughts?

The only fighting game I own is FN Round 4 but I used to be a lot into Tekken 2 and 3, don't think I was any good but I had a blast kickin' and punching stuff :D
A fight club sounds like a good idea and a lot of fun. I'm in, I'll just pick up any games we choose to use.

I've never really played them much either but I'd be willing to take a few beatings.............as a character building exercise !!!!!!

well in my head I'm having it as an open game thing. as long as two people share the same game then they can use it.

The only fighting game in my collection is Super Street Fighter IV and after playing a bit more this weekend I've re-affirmed the fact that I'm a good punching bag. Still willing to participate though.

seems like we've got some interest in the idea so I'll try and work out a system thats fair and will not worry people, but also one that makes it fun too.

suggestions welcome?

I'm game.

I'll play any 2D fighter, from Guilty Gear to Streetfighter X Tekken.

Ooooh, I also have a special place in my heart for wonky novelty fighters, like Deadliest Warrior.

ok then here's my prototype idea

To being with people declare an interest to take part and then state what games they have available to play.

We'll then start with a knockout tournament (random brackets) where each bracket can agree on a game to use and how many in 'best of' and a time to fight them.

Each round I think should be completed over a 2 week period as fights can be done (plenty of time), results are reported and winners move through the brackets.

Should this have enough interest and success Then I would think about making this a league instead of tournament with home and away fixtures ('home' player chooses game)

thoughts on this idea?

p.s. if possible and if theres enough interest can a mod make an announcement or something?

Sure.  Sounds good.  I can even dig through my goody-bin and put up some small prizes for the winners.

Thanks, Snake, for taking the lead on this venture.  Once we have all the details sorted, I'll post an official announcement.   :)

well I'll start to run the first one in 2 weeks - 15 days time. (I'm in Spain for a week on Sunday) so that'll give me time to get a sign up going and for people to sign up.

Any suggestions where to post it?

I haven't used this before, but doing some online researching and found something you might want to take a look at:

[Galaxy 4 Gamers]

If anyone else has used it and has reference to past experiences - I think it'd be good to hear.

thanks for that, took a look and it seems a little restricted game wise, and i was just going to run it on here.

Looking at things I think my original idea will be best this time round but may introduce seasons and leagues following the first tourney.

Will post it for sign up and challenges section for sign up in a couple of days, see if I get any new inspiration before hand

If anyone else has used it and has reference to past experiences - I think it'd be good to hear.
