4 Stars

I was surprised I ended up liking this movie.  The characters are colorful, the humor is great, and the casting is perfect.  It's sort of like "Mean Girls", but funnier.  I watched it with my sister, and I think I enjoyed it more than her.

Is he still an awful actor or is he worse?

its not as BAD as twilight (his acting)
he got better by like 25%

but like when he gets angry/pain he makes a constipated face :l
Christoph Waltz is in it too! (the guy who was the head nazi officer or something in Inglourious Basterds)
him and reese witherspoon are really great actors..Too bad i didint fully finish the book :(

He's no Taylor Lautner i know ;) :P

oh whatever! haters gonna hate :p

I watched Paranormal Activity 2 last night.

2 stars.

I did like the first one (with the original ending, not the ending they used for theaters).  My sister raved about how awesome the sequel was, so I finally sat down and watched it.

I need to stop listening to my sister's movie recommendations.

The first Paranormal Activity felt good enough to stand, I stayed away from Paranormal Activity 2, primarily because Hollywood doesn't know when to leave good enough alone.

The first Paranormal Craptivity is easily one of the worst horror movies ever made for me, 90 minutes of nothing at all happening is apparently all it takes these days for a film to be called the scariest film ever! Awful movies and we've got a third to look forward to too, oh joy!

Watched Stuck On You for the first time in years last night, better than I originally thought, Damon and Kinnear are both quality, 3 stars for the film and 5 for Eva Mendes' chest! :-)  I also watched Rio, good animated film, not on Pixar's level but then nobody comes close to those guys, fun movie though with some good voice work, again 3 stars.

Speaking of Pixar ...

I watched The Pixar Story a couple nights ago.

Fantastic documentary about the creation of Pixar Animation Studios.  I have absolutely no interest in making movies or animation, but after watching this I have to admit I want to work for them.

Monsters

4 Stars

Slow-paced, subtle, and surprisingly good low-budget sci-fi suspense.  Made with a crew of only 5 people, and home-computer special effects, the movie has a great quality.  The acting is decent, and the characters are oddly likeable.  I almost gave it 3 stars, but it's definitely not mediocre enough to deserve 3 stars.

X Men First Class 4 stars

Really good, not as good as x2 in my opinion but a worthy addition to the series with one excellent cameo complete with swearing also pretty violent although in a dark knight implied kinda way with Magneato ( Fassbender ) being the stand out for me even if his irish accent does slip in on occasion

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

4 Stars

The Green Lantern equivalent of Batman: Gotham Knight.  It's a series of interconnected short stories that sort of layout the Green Lantern mythology for those that aren't familiar.  Definitely great to watch before seeing the new Green Lantern movie.  It is surpisingly violent, probably the most violent DC animation I've seen.  I guess it's ok to show people be literally ripped apart, as long as their blood is purple, green, blue (... anything but red).

PS. For all of you geeks, Nathan Fillion is the voice of Hal Jordan.  Enjoy.

X-Men: First Class

3 Stars

Almost 4 stars, but was held back by some poor character/acting choices.  Isolating First Class from the other X-Men films, the movie is very good in itself.  It is surprisingly the most mature of the movies, which is ironic since it has the youngest cast.  The story is coherent (which can't be said for X3).  The action is pretty enjoyable, but not as good as X2.  Magneto (actor and character) was probably the highlight for me.

The bad.  The timeline makes no sense in the X-Men movie universe.  Havok is Cyclops' YOUNGER brother.  Why is he 16(?) years old in 1960?  The same applies to the very quick cameo of Storm (if you saw it).  I guess Halle Berry is 60+ years old the earlier X-Men movies?   #)  The (horribly inaccurate) backstory with Mystique and Xavier was good, but makes no sense in relation to X-Men movies 1-3.  I would excuse all of the above if they treated this movie was a standalone story, but they intentionally tied it to previous X-Men movies.

The movie would have been an easy 4 stars if the writers/producers put a little more thought into how the movies tied together.  And, while January Jones is obviously an attractive blonde woman, that doesn't make her Emma Frost.  White Queen was one of my biggest disappointments.  Such a great character ruined by such a generic performance.

Black Death

4 Stars

I caught this on Netflix Instant.  Much better than I would have expected.  The acting is great.  The characters are interesting.  The story is familiar, but a few minor twists make it feel new enough to not bore you.  If you like violent medieval action, and a gritty realistic take on magic/superstition, you'll like this.

Scream 4

1 and a half Stars.

Quite poor really. Was surprised at how little suspense was in the film considering Wes Craven directed it. The slasher genre would be my favourite type of horror movie but this tries to hard to be a parody of it's original which was of course a parody of the genre, But it forgets the first rule of any slasher movie....Suspense.

Paul

4 Stars

Very funny, not as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz (Edgar Wright wasn't involved with this) but still a quality movie.  Pegg and Frost are typically brilliant, Kristen Wiig is superb as the bible bashing Ruth, Bateman, Hader and Lo Truglio all great too, Seth Rogen as Paul is basically the same as Seth Rogen in everything he's starred in only you don't have to look at him!   :)

Loads of classic sci-fi references in the movie too.

Brotherhood

4 Stars

Great Indie Suspense film.  A Murphy's law story where everything goes from bad to worst.  The characters are horrible people, completely unrelatable, but feel very real.  For such a young cast, the acting was super, managing to not feel like a teen horror/drama (eg. Swim Fan).  I also appreciate that the movie uses elements like racism and peer-pressure in a way that doesn't feel preachy.

The Lincoln Lawyer

3 Stars.

Matthew McConaughey being Matthew McConaughey ... as a lawyer (again) ... in a Lincoln.  I'm not a fan of Matthew McConaughey, but he does this role well (over and over again).  His character is interesting enough, a mix of lawyer/hustler/con-man, I would watch a sequel.  The courtroom drama is well executed, but the story & attempted twist with the killer kind of loses steam by the end.

Harry Pottter and the deathly Hollows Pt 1 and 2
3.5 stars for both. It was suspenseful and fast paced, better than reading that boring ass book -.-
Part 2 looks AMAZING in 3d.

and who knew Gary Oldman looks similar to Alan Rickman...

Haven't seen the film but from the trailers, I kind of got the feeling that The Lincoln Lawyer was going to turn into this:

In which Ed Norton stole the film... Just don't know if The Lincoln Lawyer has its own "Ed Norton" to make it payoff down the stretch. Might check it out when I get a chance though.

Primal Fear is definetly better than Lincoln Lawyer.  But their similarities are limited.

While the star in Primal Fear was my man Edward Norton, McConaughey is definitely the star of Lincoln Lawyer.

I watched two movies on Netflix last night. They are both made-for-tv romantic dramas.

What?

Don't judge me.

The first movie was: Borrowed Hearts (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0132893/). It stars pre-Will & Grace Eric McCormack and exceptionally pretty lady Roma Downey, who I think is from Touched By An Angel fame. The movie is about this rich business dude (McCormack) who needs to pretend he has a wife and kid to make this business deal with an oldschool, family means everything wiseman played excellently by Hector Elizondo (he is in lots of stuff, often playing an oldschool, family means everything wiseman). Anyway, sickeningly sweet romance ensues between the calculating business dude (who underneath it all is quite vulnerable, don't ya know), and the single mother who is afraid of getting hurt again. Throw in a dash of bordering-on-annoying-but-ultimately-cute precocious 8 year old and a Christmas setting, and you have one sappy movie. Which is just the way I like 'em. Extra points for awful 90's hair.

4/5.

The second movie was: One Hell of a Guy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0158049/). This is a Rob Lowe made-for-tv romcom from 2000. Michael York plays the devil (awesome) and Rob Lowe is one of his minions that he sends to the surface to mess up some super goody goody waitress (Alexandra Powers, famous for nothing) in some generic small everytown USA. The waitress is tough to corrupt, Rob Lowe falls for her, yadda yadda yadda. The supporting cast is good, including a really hot Eva La Rue, and they help make this more watchable. Otherwise, this is a purely mediocre tv romcom.

3/5.

I can't find a trailer for the first movie, but I found this German thing for the second:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbpmADwZpl4
With German subtitles, 'cuz I knows hows you likes 'em.

So I watched Captain American this afternoon.  I would say it rates around 3.5 stars.  It started out slow, but then the action picked up and it improved.  In addition to the action, there were some rather humorous moments as well.

Just saw Capt. America. To sum it up:

Not a bad movie, but a totally pointless one.

No drama, no inspired acting, and nothing to say. This is a movie that is so focused on not having a message that they even go out of their way to avoid calling nazis bad guys by making up a bigger, meaner subdivision of nazis called "hydras" that have nothing to do with Hitler and all that unpleasantness (and who even get their own 'heil' salute where they use TWO fist bumps instead of one, because two is double the evil). In a way, this is almost noteworthy in that I've never seen a film that was so anti-judgement that it couldn't come to the bold conclusion that nazis are bad.

Add to that the convenient ignoring of the fact that the army was segregated during WWII so that the Cap can form his rainbow coalition of soldiers, and an absolutely vacuous performance by leading man Chris Evans, and you have one brain dead movie.

The fight scenes are CG and uninspired, the characters are 2D and insipid, and the forced romance is obvious and boring.

Upshot: Hugo Weaving is always awesome.

2/5

2 stars, pretty much just for the young kid and for John Leguizamo, Super Mario Bros. aside, always worth watching.

A jumbled amalgam of Inception, Déjà Vu, and ReBoot.  I like the cast, and a lot of the dialogue is enjoyable.  But the overall premise and quasi-twist are just not thought out enough for the average sci-fi audience.  Inception For Dummies.

Rec 2.

Long story short: An inferior sequel to a great indie horror flick.

If you've seen Rec then you know they added a certain twist to the plot at the end. Rec 2 takes that twist and expands upon it, which I like. Unfortunately, none of the characters are anywhere near as good as in Rec, which was one of the strengths of the first film. This time around I don't particularly care if any of the characters get zombie'd, as most of them are two dimensional - or worse, many of them are damn annoying.

On the up side Manuela Velasco makes a surprise return. She did a lot to make the first film great, and it was fun to see her bring it back again for Rec 2. Also, she is just damn hot. I hope she gets picked up by Hollywood to make some mainstream American films, 'cuz I wants to see more of her.

Manuela Velasco, pointing her way into my heart.

3/5 for Rec 2.

A lot of people give Quarantine crap because, as GamerMan was saying, it was almost a carbon copy of [REC]. It doesn't bother me any, though. I still liked it.

In Quarantine they do change the origin of the zombie virus from [REC], which is why Quarantine 2 has nothing to do with [REC 2]. Also, the reason you've never heard of Quarantine 2 is because it is a straight-to-dvd cash in that just released yesterday (whereas [REC 2] was a full blown funded sequel). On the up side, early Quarantine 2 review buzz has been fairly positive.

On a related note, [REC 3], a prequel, just came out and [REC 4] (the final entry to the series) should come in another year or two.

Maybe I don't remember the other films, which I've seen a while ago, but found this to be the first film of the series to successfully explore the psychology of the apes' sense of belonging. In other words, not just apes throwing poop and helicopters around. Good stuff.

Unknown was the last movie I remember watching. I give it an 8/10. Although I cant stop clicking on the file on PC to see whats inside. It gets me everytime.

I also watched Xmen: First Class. It was awesome. My fave Xmen film and the only line from Wolverine in First Class sums up his character better than the entire Wolverine film ever did.  Which may I also add was a bag of shite. But I am not going down that road again.

I can't wait to watch Captain America. Chris Evans is one fine looking man. It's going to be a bit weird if he ever meets Johnny Storm though :P

Lord, Save Us from Your Followers

4 Stars

This documentary was not at all what I was expecting.  I was looking for comedic look at Jesus freaks and their victims.  Instead, I got a refreshing insight into the inherent good in people, all people.  The narrative is framed in a way that tells Christians to stop being assholes, but also speaks volumes to religious cynics like me ... even if that wasn't its purpose.  Regardless of your own personal beliefs (or lack thereof), if you're tired of feeling like the world is sh*t, you'll find this refreshing.

The Horde (La Horde)

3 Stars

Assault on Precinct 13 with zombies ... French zombies!  The acting is great, the action is pretty good, but there are extreme shifts in direction that are not explained very well.  It may just be a cultural lost-in-translation thing, but it does take away from an otherwise great action/horror flick.  There were a few memorable scenes, including one I'd rather not remember.  Again, probably a cultural thing.  Those crazy French and their unholy zombie fetish.   #)

Blitz

Decent crime thriller about a serial killer that targets police officers, Jason Statham and Paddy Considine are the men trying to track him down, both do the job well though Paddy isn't in the movie as much as i'd like him to be.  Aidan Gillen plays the bad guy very well and the rest of the cast are fine.

3 stars and because it has Statham in it, don't be expecting his usual martial arts stuff, there's none of that here.

Watched Scream 4 last night, bloody brilliant, way better than 2 and 3, just a shame Courteney Cox is looking so old. I won't say anything else because I'll end up giving a load of spoilers away, but if you liked the original this is well worth a watch, no idea why it did so badly at the cinema?  :o

Fast and the Furious 5

Much better than I expected even with the wooden superstars, Diesel and Walker, stinking up the joint. Some quality action and chase scenes though it feels a lot like an Oceans movie near the end but nowhere near as cool.

Relive every heartcrushing breakup you've ever experienced from the comfort of your own living room.  I wanted to give this 3 stars, but I can't deny the acting & direction are amazing.  It's the story that's just depressing as f*ck, but that's because it's such a realistic non-movie onscreen relationship.  I'm not going to go into plot and spoil it for anyone wanting to watch it.  I'll just say, don't watch this with your significant other.  You will fall in love with the characters, and turn on eachother in the process.

X-Men: Evolution

4 Stars

This series was a pleasant surprise.  I remember trying to watch it back in 2000 when it first aired, but was immediately turned off by it's ridiculous X-Men meets Saved By the Bell concept.  I never even bothered watching season 2, which is unfortunate.  I don't know if they fired the season 1 writers, but season 2 takes a sharp turn for the better.  In only 3 1/2 seasons, they cover dozens of origin stories and milestones, and even manage to piece them all together for a decent conclusion (rushed by the show's cancellation).  If you enjoyed the X-Men series in the '90s, you may enjoy this.  Just do yourself a favor and skip season 1.   ;)

No Strings Attached

4 Stars

It's not a 4-star RomCom, but I have to give it 4-star for taking a few risks in trying to be something better.  All of the typical 'checkbox' elements are there; charming guy, cute girl, quirky best friends, blah blah blah.  But the way these elements are used is slightly awkward but refreshing.  There are a few typical moments through the storyarc that you expect to go one way, but don't.  I also enjoyed that the supporting cast was giving more screentime than a typical RomCom.  Lake Bell (Children's Hospital) as an anxious, neurotic mess was so out-of-place she couldn't help but steal each scene.  If you can overlook your disdain for Ashton Kutcher (I did), you're in for some quality cute funny.

Pontypool

I'd describe Pontypool as... a non-zombie, zombie film. The film deals with a zombie-like infection spreading through a small town, but the infection is unlike any other that I have ever seen in a zombie movie. I can't really say how the infection works without giving away a huge part of the movie, but it should be sufficient to say that you've never come across "zombies" like this.

Pontypool takes place in, and never actually leaves, a small radio station in some tiny rural town in Canada (called Pontypool, which I believe really is a small Canadian town). The main characters consist of the early morning show AM radio talk host and his two producers. The day begins normally, but they soon start to get people calling in with all sorts of weird reports of mob violence. The movie never leaves the radio station so you never see any of the violence, which means you never know any more than the characters do, and I think that gives you a closer connection to what they must be thinking and feeling.

The entire film has a sort of old-timey radio-play vibe that just really works (for me, anyway). They were obviously trying evoke a War of the Worlds feeling, and I think they largely succeeded. On top of that they get into some great post-modernist word play antics, which is way more than I'd ever expect from a low budget zombie movie. The movie is essentially about a radio show, so words mean everything in the film, and this ends up being a great theme (this may not make sense right now, but trust me when I say that it will when you see the movie).

The acting is all top notch. Stephen McHattie does a good job channeling Don Imus as the radio show host (our hero), Lisa Houle makes a great stressed out producer who is trying to deal with the ego of the talent (McHattie), and Georgina Reilly is too cute for words.

5/5 for Pontypool for being genuinely scary and totally unique.

FYI: Pontypool actually was produced as a radio play to go along with the movie. You can listen to a broadcast of the radio play here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/arts/2009/06/090617_pontypool_audio.shtml).

If you like that, try googling up a link to the audio from the original War of the Worlds broadcast by Orson Welle's radio-drama team (the one that started a minor panic because people thought that aliens were actually invading). It holds up extremely well.

Well I was behind on movies for a little while due to the fact I hadn't been going to the movie theater a lot lately. I usually go a lot and see a lot of newer movies but as of recent I started paying for a monthly service from Blockbuster called Blockbuster Total Access which is a mix between Netflix and Gamefly but anyways. So I've been putting a lot of movies I missed during my sabbatical from the theaters. And I just got through watching Sucker Punch at work. And I will say it was kind of an odd movie it jumped from the real world, to fantasy, to another dimension when she danced or that's what I got from it. But all in all it was a good movie the visual presentation reminded me of 300 and the fighting scenes were a little over the top like those of the Matrix. I would say the best part of the movie though had to be the smoking hot babes they were fine no lie lol.

So in all I'd give it about a....

Watched No Strings Attached with my wifey tonight. It was actually very hilarious and the comedy tended to overshadow the romantic part of the movie more than most romantic comedies do. A lot of the jokes in it were just hilarious and I've always had something for Natalie Portman so the fact she's a freak through the whole movie was a plus. Don't tell the wife lol. I give it a +4.5 mainly because of the comedy.

Let me say it isnt at all i can see the way Apatow is trying but there are a few crude funny jokes but nothing like the Hangover though, If you go into it with no expectations, just wanting a laugh i think you will be surprised, for me it was a little above average, so maybe a 7/10 or a solid 3.5/5

4/5
So i was literally DYING to see this movie, so i  saw it yesterday (ofcourse i was the only kid in the whole entire theater). And i have to admit, it was good. I was completely engrossed in the storyline. BUT the ending was like "UGh WTF". Like i just cannot explain it without spoiling it.. the ending was like the sopranos final episode where it fades to black, but in Ides its like it faded to black a bit too early...ok that was a horrible example. But yea it was totally worthy of my $13.50

I'm secure enough in my heterosexuality to admit I'm supergay for Ryan Gosling.   :-*
MEE TOO

anyways. watched some more ryan gosling prons. I saw drive tonight and i loved it. hes so hot as a badass. too bad there were like five 9 yr olds running around the theater. Never knew where a R rated movie was good for 9 yr olds.. Also what irked me was that he BARELY talks but i guess its a good thing.. cuz he just looksso hot and badass pumping shotgun rounds into someones face. Talking would only ruin the moment..

Craig had the scared gene beaten out of him when he was young by a living statue, with a tennis racket made from cats. Owing to his inability to be scared and natural hatred to fluff. It also makes him shout at living statues when walking past them, which is hilarious.

I just don't find Hollywood "horror" movies even remotely scary, watched too many as a child I guess, i'd much rather watch Japanese & Korean horror films which Hollywood studios seem love butchering with remake after crappy remake!

I still haven't seen it, though Thor wasn't what I expected. Interesting in itself and a decent watch, but of the more "recent" incarnations, Iron Man still takes the spotlight for me.

I've high hopes for the Avengers movie, but kind of expecting it to go wrong.

Bridesmaids 2 stars.

Very disappointing even for a film I was not expecting much from before it started. The film just drags on and on and on. Every scene is about 5 Min's to long, I'm not kidding, One part of the movie has the girls taking a flight to Vegas, I could have flew to Vegas quicker than it took for the scene to tell the joke.
It does have a couple of jokes in, And a few scenes are funny but not nearly enough for the length of the film. There is a lot of crude stuff thrown in (and it really does feel thrown in) that just does not sit with the rest of the film.

Just watched the Fright Night remake with Colin Farrell, one of the better remakes i've seen.  Farrell is quality as Jerry, the vampire nextdoor, not quite as good as Chris Sarandon in the original but still good.  Also refreshing to see a vampire actually killing people whenever they see fit, thanks to those aimed at young girls Twilight movies, vampires have lost their cool, Farrell's vamp brings cool back!   :)

3.5/5

Just watched Bad Teacher, hard to say if i liked it or not to be honest..... Only thing that stood out and it damned should being that im a man is the sight of Cameron Diaz having a nice pair of breasts in her hands to see how they might feel on her as she is trying to save some money to get a breast enhancement. Lucy punch played a little bit of a funny part but the ending of this movie was just not right, i dont want to go into detail as it will give away spoilers. Jason Segal's character was a bit of a laugh, but there should have been more of him in the movie. I also just cant see Justin Timberlake act...... Well there are  2 reasons to at least see it....

Cameron Diaz holding some boobs

Lucy Punch

I admit I had extremely low expectations going into this one, but it was actually much better then I thought it would be. There were quite a few funny parts and Jason Segal makes everything better. It's certainly not amazing, but I'd say it's worth the watch...I've sat through much worse that's for sure.

Hanna

4 stars

Very interesting approach to an action/spy movie.  It could have easily turned into a sci-fi cliche fest, but they managed to keep it grounded and gritty.  A few funny moments kept the pacing alive, and the soundtrack was surprisngly awesome (yet slightly out of place).  The excitement that the film delivered so well sort of fell flat toward the end.  If they managed to end it with more of a 'bang' I would have easily given it 5 stars.

Wet Hot American Summer

It's a spoof of 1980's camp/party/teen movies, but it was made in 2001. If any of you are familiar with a short-lived sketch comedy show called "The State", this movie is what the creators & cast did in between "Strangers With Candy" and "Reno 911". If you think any of those things I mentioned are funny, you'll get this movie. Otherwise, the movie will probably confuse and/or irritate you.

I wanna watch it purely because Conan is played by the guy who plays Drogo in Game of Thrones, and his role in that was pretty well played. Shame if it's not good. I've got a long list of recent hits that have bad reviews that I'd really like to see.

I had high hopes for it, so maybe I'm being a little harsh. They spent a nice bit of money on the sets and special effects. It looked good but for me the whole thing didn't work at all and I was very disappointed. P.S. Game of Thrones is superb and I'm really looking forward to season 2. Reading the books at the moment, good stuff.

Pearl Jam Twenty (PJ20)

5 Stars

As an American white male between the ages of 25-50, I am obviously a fan of Pearl Jam.  However, over the past 10 years, that all-to-common cliche has become more of a joke to me than a fact.  I own most of their albums, I've seen them live, and I've watched a few documentaries about the band.  But never have any of these things reflected to me so thoroughly why I (and millions of others) consider themselves a Pearl Jam fan.  Thank you, Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Say Anything), for reminding me.

Would like to watch horrible bosses when it comes out in OZ, last night my family watched The Change up, with Justin Bateman Ryan Reynolds, i was just hoping for something to entertain my mind and forget abt work, but it was pretty decent, the story itself has been told before in different movies, but the scenes in between made up for what you knew might be coming!. Overall a solid 4, some funny jokes and scenes plus we all like seeing Lorn.... when you watch the movie you will get it.
BTW def not suitable for kids!!

Last night I finally decided I'd played ENOUGH Skyrim and watched a couple of movies. Gulliver's Travels and Paul.

Gulliver's Travels was pretty good, surprisingly so since I'd had friends say it was terrible. It's pretty much your run of the mill Jack Black movie, though - so it's safe to say if you don't like him, you probably won't like it. Quite silly, same story as you'd expect from Gulliver, but was amusing for a short-ish film!

Paul was hilarious. A lot of quite good references to various other movies and the like, most of which nobody else watching it with me seemed to catch, which was sad. But a good film, again surprisingly, was expecting a flop for some reason! So yeah, two pretty good movies, recommended!

Watched Real Steel the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's like Rocky only with robots. Pretty standard Hollywood storyline but the good acting and the quality robot CGI make it well worth a watch. 4 stars.

the obvious one was good, i was told Storm was in the Cerebro scene (i didn't spot her though) and Mystique from the X-Men trilogy was clever. I didn't spot the others but all of the main characters were known which was nice, nothing too obscure in there. Nightcrawlers dad was sweet. Nerdgasm but not as fun as X-Men 3 i thought.

Wolverine was in it for a split second.  Sitting in a bar, he tells xavier and magneto to  F " take a hike " off     ----------  apologies, Wolverine was clearly the obvious one mentioned at the start of the post.    Storm was in the Cerebro scene alright, reading a book. I noticed that about the accent, kind of amusing. It was good, though I kind of want more - not sure what to expect next though, another "Origins" I guess? It'd be nice to see something brotherhood based, following them instead of the actual Xmen.

Watched Fright Night with Colin Farrell last week and also got to see Immortals.  Both were pretty enjoyable.

Really liked Fright Night. It had a good mix of dry humour, sense of foreboding and the vampire scenes were well done, especially the last 20 minutes or so. 4 out of 5

The action and CGI in Immortals was excellent. Dunno about turning the Titans into mindless savage type baddies, that were basically canon fodder for the gods but enjoyable nonetheless. 3 out of 5   Wrath of the Titans needs to be well done to beat Immortals, but looking at the trailers it just might.

I was duped into watching Drive last night - always be wary when four of your female friends ALL agree that watching it would be a good idea when on the surface it looks like an ace action flick. It was basically 90 minutes of sitting in a room of women swooning over Ryan Gosling. Could've slept through all but 15 minutes of it. 5 of those minutes are the credits.  #)

Watched Underworld Awakening afterwards, once the kids were in bed. Not bad either. Just carries on the story from the last time we saw Celine, still looking pretty hot in pvc!!! hhmmmmmmmm

Piranha 3D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdMO51GaTMs) - 7/10
Was expecting a b-movie along the lines of Sand Shark, instead I got a flick with decent enough story, good cgi and LOTS of blood and gore.

Movie starts out with a guy in a boat, fishing on a lake. There's an earthquake, powerful enough to open up a tunnel entrance at the bottom of the lake. A tunnel that leads to an underwater lake full of piranhas! And well, the guy falls in, gets eaten and a few hundred piranhas are on the loose!
Oh, and the lake just so happens to be a popular destination for spring breakers, and yep, it's spring break.

The acting is decent at best, but if you're watching a movie like this for the acting then you have no taste in movies.
But if you love blood, gore, nudity, fish, water, young people being eaten by fish, blood and bad music then this movie is for you!

Piranha 3DD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LZCHqLMKeU) – 5/10
Pretty much like the first one, just not as good. Instead of spring break there's a water park and instead of any story/acting there's more nudity, because hey, when in doubt, more boobs!

oh JESUS where do i begin? Ive been seeing 2-3 movies a day/week so everything is just a blur.. I know i saw The Master and End of Watch on the same day (like last week LOL). And i Just saw Looper today.. i think i saw almost all of these this month/end of last month.

Premium Rush- 7/10 So at first I thought the premise was pretty stupid but no, I was wrong. It was entertaining and it totally had its laughs. And of course Joseph's acting was on point! (so was Michael Shannon's)

The Master- 7/10 (yes, the movie about scientology) So like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix are like OMAGERDDAMAZING actors. But dur, I already knew that... This movie was a bit slow and it was a little confusing. But basically the movie is saying that the founder of scientology pulled it all out of his ass.. I feel like he was sort of onto something, but also its basis for a cult (thats why its called The Master, he was the only one in charge, it was his word or youre just plain wrong.) And ugh they used acronyms in this movie and I literally was like WTF. But, whatever its still good.

Looper- 8/10 So the dude who did Inception (the movie that I COMPLETELY understood and figured out on my first time seeing it) did this movie too and I have to admit, I like it. Alot. Maybe im just plain crazy but I love movies that play mind games with you. The only thing i didnt like about this movie was I figured out who was the "Rainmaker". But other than that it was GREAT. And props to that little kid in the movie, that what 8(?) year old had me CONVINCED. Also, for me this movie was just more Joseph Gordon Levitt porn for me LOL Ugh hes such a good actor and hes so darn sexy....

End of Watch- 8/10 HOLY SHIZZLE this movie was AWESOME. Oh my god I was laughing at Michael Penâ's jokes so hard.. Michael and Jake's chemistry is like OUT OF THIS WORLD. I seriously thought they were just straight up homies way back before this movie. The acting was on point, the movie had me laugh at all the right moments, it totally shocked me in some scenes and made me tear up just a little. This movie had ALL my feels..

Dredd 3D- 4/10 I dont know what the hell I watched. I cant describe how like UGH this movie was. Like honestly, it only got a 4 cause the special effects were amazing. The story felt confined (70% of it takes place in one building). The characters felt underdeveloped, I mean i only saw this movie cause a friend in the movies owed me.. Just watch it on the internet..

:D thanks! ohoho i have another movie to review too!

Hotel Transylvania (3D)- 8/10 HOLY SH*T! ADAM SANDLER IS ACTUALLY FUNNY IN THIS MOVIE!
im so not kidding. I saw this movie cause I was locked out (long story), I was bored in my hotel room and cause of Andy Samberg... Oh, also cause of the "scream cheese" commercial (that was SO funny and cute). This movie is almost like Shrek, cute moments for the kiddies and hilarious "in-between-the-lines" moments for the adults (did that make any sense?). Anyways, Its a hilarious movie about an over protective father, who learns that he needs to let his "little girl" live her life and make her own choices/decisions and blah blah blah. Its funny with a strong cast and hilarious jokes. Go see it. But not in 3D, I saw it 3D cause I wasnt going to wait 4+hrs for the normal one...

Resident Evil:Retribution (3D): 7/10 WTH why do i keep going to these 3D movies? Wait, Wait, WAIT. This movie is pretty awesomesauce in 3D. the third dimension wasnt a gimmick here. This was my first resident evil movie, like EVER. Since I dont know squat about this series just that Alice's costume was hard as HELL to make, so Ill keep it short. The sh*t hits the fan and errthang goes awry for Alice so she gets captured by an Umbrella. So Duke Nukem er, Albert Wesker sends in mmmmsexy Leon and his team to go rescue her and blow the place up. Then alot of badassery happens untill the very end. Thats where it got boring, LONG ARSE DRAWN OUT fight scenes with Leon trying to tag-team Raine with Luthor West in one corner and Alice fighting Jill Valentine in the other. All the while Ada was handcuffed in the snow :( That whole scene couldve been like 4minutes long and thats it :| Anyways it was good.

ERMAGERD I cant believe i just "OK'ed" a adam sandler movie... I do believe the world is ending...

Next Up: Taken 2, The Oranges and Arbitrage

Post by: citatscEellE on November 02, 2012, 03:03:39 PM
Meh, I mostly all of these on opening day (except for here comes the boom)

Movies I thought were awesome

Alex Cross 7.8/10-  I really wanted to see how Tyler Perry would make the transition to a BAMF and I gotta say not bad. I mean the guy isnt a bad actor, he perfected madea and he was good in Good Deeds. I dont think he will be the next "action superstar" but I think with the right story he as potential. The movie still had some feels to it, but I liked it though. Oh and Matthew Fox is effing terrifying in this movie. He is NOT that dude from lost anymore.

Argo 8/10- Okay first off, I just wanna say that we ALL know that the people escaped but HOLY CRAP the last 15/20 minutes of the movie made me scratch out ALL the stuffing in the seat. In the theater you could cut the tension with a knife. Everyone (myself included) in the movie was holding their breath. Im pretty sure I got 3 gray hairs in the process. With that being said, that movie was great. That movie was pretty much perfect.

Taken 2  7.5/10- You know you're a bad fighter when a guy almost twice your age is kicking more ass than you.  Same thing with the last movie. Still awesome and it just proves that Liam Neeson is one BAMF.

Movies I thought were great

Cloud Atlas 7/10- So throughout this entire movie I sat wondering who was who in FX makeup. This movie literally was eyecandy and that is why it got a 7/10. If you do not like to use your brain during a movie, Cloud Atlas isnt for you.  The stories individually were great. They were mostly fleshed out (as much as an individual story can in a movie with 5 other stories). But trying to link the stories together might be a tad bit confusing. The first five stories are interrupted at a key moment and after the sixth story, the other five stories are returned to and finished, in reverse order. Then it ends with each character realizing what happens in the next story (chronologically) in the chain. (what. did that make ANY sense? I think I just confused myself @-@) Anyways, there were 3 stories I liked, 1 i found HILARIOUS and the other 2 were okay :/  Its worth atleast a peek. Oh, its also a little long, the movie wouldve been a bit better if things wrapped up quicker.

Here Comes The Boom 7/10- Ha, I cant believe I enjoyed a filler movie! I usually dont like kevin james since hes really silly/stupid funny but this movie made me laugh. Its a typical "Lets do this thing to help raise money for our good cause. FOR THE KIDS!" type of movie. The guy who played Nico was funny, he totally made the movie watchable.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower8/10- Good story, good cast and GREAT music. (I ended up torrenting the soundtrack after I saw it). The pacing was perfect and the acting was believable. And also, IT WAS BETTER THAN JUNO! :D

Movies Im neutral with

Seven Psychopaths -/-  - So I feel like this movie sorta let me down. Thought this movie would really amp up the crazy (not to the point where its cheesy). It does have its crazy moments and it IS funny (mostly) and has its cute cheesy moments but I dont know. I think I was expecting more from this movie since it utilizes a great cast.

Frankenweenie -/-  -  More of the same stuff from Tim Burton. I dont get why so many people raved this movie..

Movies I cant wait to see
Flight
Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 (finally its ending, it BETTER be good)
Wreck it Ralph
Les Misrables
Lincoln
Skyfall
Killing them Softly
Hyde Park Hudson
Rise of the Guardians
Anna Karenina

Sherlock Holmes - Game Of Shadows 7/10

Beautiful filming and imagery used in the film but I did struggle a little to really understand what was going on.

Prometheus - 4/10

If you want to learn how to use light and make CGI look very real then Riddle Scott's movie is certainly one to watch. However it does not make up for the massive plot holes, the unexplained reason behind a lot of the characters motivations and so many other holes. I was really looking forward to seeing this movie and avoided all the reviews and build ups and in the end just disappointed.

Expectations were pretty high for Prometheus, I have to agree though something about watching it felt astoundingly empty. It's almost as if the writing couldn't decide if it wanted to be a great suspense/sci-fi film or a really thought provoking piece of cinema. Turned out to be neither.

Argo was fantastic.

My gf watched Rise of the Guardians with her family over the Holiday, she said it sucked.  Since she's far more into those types of movies than I am, I took her word for it.

I know I'll love Seven Psychopaths once I find the time to see it.

I'm in no hurry to see Les Misrables, but I have loved some of the marketing for it ...

I watched Indie Game: The Movie last night, and it was wonderful.  I've heard a lot of hype about how touching it is, but I assumed that was just the industry trying to oversell some needed good PR for video games.

Well... it actually is touching.  Aside from a few shots where the director and/or DP was trying too hard to be artsy, the documentary is very grounded and relate-able, even for someone that knows absolutely nothing about game development.

5 Stars!

The Stone Roses: Made of Stone

I should start by saying that I love the Stone Roses, Easily in my top 5 groups of all time (Probably top 3). So I've been eagerly waiting to watch Shane Meadows take on the reunion of the group.
The film has some nice clips from the old days but is lacking in genuine interviews with the group today, And lacks to much of the bands back catalogue.
All in all I would say it's one for fans.

The Class of '92

A  film about a bunch of Man Utd players, Who the f*ck wants to watch that self-indulgent bollox?
Well, This was actually very, very good. (Helps that it has a killer soundtrack to help it along) but I was really surprised at just how much I enjoyed the film.
It has some real insight and funny stories regarding Alex Ferguson, He really had an impact at all levels at that football club.
The film also showcases a time which has been lost in football and that is the age of apprentices learning and taking stick from the pro's, In a time before footballers are rich and famous before they have even kicked a ball for the first team.
All 6 players were a credit to their club, And their story is something that will probably never be repeated.
The only negative I would have is, That since Gary Neville retired I have actually got to like the bloke, He is one of the best commentators and comes across well in the film. Bastard!!

P.S   I should add that to cleanse myself of all this Northern Manchester love in, I watched  Kings Of Europe, The Chelsea Story. A proper football film  ;)

Loved The Class of 92, great seeing all the boys back together, you can see just how close they all are even after all these years, some great stories from the lads too especially the one with Butt and Schmeichel which pretty much explains why the Great Dane was always so angry!  ;D
