Call of Duty: Black Ops II Care Package and Hardened Editions Revealed

Activision and Gamestop have revealed the contents of the Call of Duty: Black Ops II: Care Package, complete with exclusive goodies.

Contained within a replica Care Package, the special edition includes a Remote-controlled UAV Flyer, “exclusive in-game upgrades," "exclusive Zombie Maps” and the updated Nuketown map from Black Ops, now called Nuketown 2025. All the contents are detailed in the image below.

In addition to this a Hardened Edition of the game was also announced, the details of which can also be found below.

There was no Prestige Edition for the last entry in the series, Modern Warfare 3, but previous Prestige Editions have included items such as a remote controlled car and night vision goggles.

Treyarch has also confirmed that Zombies will be playable on Nuketown 2025, for all users. A message on the game’s Facebook, accompanied by an image saying "Welcome to Nuketown Zombies," reads "There goes the neighborhood."

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Hardened Edition will set you back $80/£69.99, while the Care Package costs $180/£159.99.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is out on November 13th.

Is Black Ops II Getting a Zombies Campaign?

Since Call of Duty: World At War introduced the Zombies mode, it's always been a standalone thing that's entirely separate from the rest of game and the campaign, but if an Amazon product listing is to be believed, Call of Duty: Black Ops II's Zombies could be an entire campaign in itself.

The Amazon listing in question has the game's key features bulletpointed, with "The inclusion of a Zombies in gameplay, both in as an option in multiplayer, and as a campaign option" listed as one such key feature.

Kotaku speculates that 'Zombies as a campaign option' could pertain to a new game+ wherein you fight zombies through the single-player campaign, or something akin to Modern Warfare's Spec Ops missions. We think it could be an entire mini-campaign on its own. Treyarch has told us that Zombies will be "bigger than ever" for Black Ops II, so it seems wholly plausible.

For now though, we'll just have to wait and see, as Treyarch has yet to reveal any details on Black Ops II's Zombies mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is out on November 13th, 2012.

My thought exactly.  Like a slower-paced L4D.

Black Ops II Prestige is Not a Start-Over System

Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar has revealed some more info on Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s prestige system.

As we already know, there are 55 levels in the main progression and 10 levels of prestige. And as ever, when you prestige In Black Ops II you will have the option to start all over again from level one.

However, unlike previous COD games, when you prestige in Black Ops II you will not lose all of your progress. So for example, weapon experience will be constant. When you unlock a weapon again it will remember your progress.

On stage at the Eurogamer Expo in London today, Vonderhaar joked about the previous prestige system by saying, “Prestige. Prestige! Congratulations. Here's a new icon. Repeat the entire game. What? What?”

Vonderhaar then went on to describe the new system and the reasoning behind it.

"I've been thinking about it non-stop, about how to get people to prestige,” he said. “We kept going about it the wrong way. We kept saying, here are some more rewards if you do it. Here is this extra stuff if you decide to hit the prestige button.

"Then I looked at a graph of the people who play and what happens to them when they hit level 55 or whatever the max level is, and how they drop off, and how few people actually go to max prestige. I know they could go to max prestige because their time play suggests they could have. I have this data. I know this for a fact.

"They just stopped levelling. Maybe it's because we keep taking away everything. Maybe. Maybe that's the reason."

"In Black Ops 2 prestige is not a start over system," he continued. "When you prestige in Black Ops I will not reset your weapon levelling. If you are level four on a gun you will still be level four when you cycle back around to that gun. Same with all your cosmetics, any camo you've unlocked or emblem, all the personalisation, all the fancy backgrounds you managed to achieve, all of that will still be there."

Vonderhaar concluded by saying, "In this case I feel damned if we don't try something new to get you to prestige. Prestige already! Please, you can do it! Look at the cool icons you get." In Blops II each prestige level has a shiny new icon.

"When you finish up the prestige you become the prestige master."

Black Ops II shatters entertainment records – launches to over 500 million in sales

Once again, it looks like Call of Duty has turned the gaming industry upside down with absurd sales numbers. For the fourth year in a row, nothing comes close to these numbers.

From the press release -

Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI), today announced that for the fourth consecutive year, the Call of Duty® franchise has delivered the biggest entertainment launch of the year. The highly-anticipated Call of Duty®: Black Ops II has achieved an estimated sell-through of more than $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Chart-Track, retail customer sell-through information and internal company estimates.

“With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars,” the two most successful movie franchises of all time. Given the challenged macro-economic environment, we remain cautious about the balance of 2012 and 2013.”

On November 13, 2012, millions of fans attended more than 16,000 midnight openings at retail stores worldwide. Reflecting the wave of excitement that swept the globe, Call of Duty: Black Ops II drove social conversation in its first 24 hours as it was a top trending topic globally on Twitter in 23 cities worldwide. Additionally, there have been more than 30 million YouTube video views of the game’s live-action ‘Surprise’ launch trailer since its release on October 29, 2012.

“Call of Duty has become more than a product people buy, it’s become a brand people buy into.  And every November we do more than just launch a game, we kick off an annual, unofficial but worldwide phenomenon called Call of Duty season,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. ”I want to thank our incredible team at Treyarch for making an amazing game, everyone at Activision for making this brand a force of nature and our retail partners for their unprecedented support of this franchise. But most importantly I want to thank our millions of fans for their continued support and loyalty and for making us better every day.”

Black Ops II Breaks $1bn Mark Globally in 15 Days

Call of Duty: Black Ops II has beaten its predecessor, Modern Warfare 3, to the $1 billion milestone in worldwide retail sales according to internal company estimates and Chart-Track. Black Ops II reached the $1bn mark a whole day ahead of MW3, which took 16 days to rack up the same amount last year.

“The release of Call of Duty has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years,” commented Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick. “Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined.

“Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter and Star Wars, the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”

As a comparison, the highest-grossing movie is James Cameron's Avatar, which in 2009 managed to accumulate $1 billion in box office receipts in 17 days.

More than 150 million hours of online gameplay have been clocked on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network since Black Ops II's launch on November 13th. Blimey.

Lots of laugh in that trailer, but not enough to make buy in. Still though, good show.  8)
