Title: FIFA 13
Post by: GamerMan316 on May 15, 2012, 05:34:40 AM
FIFA 13 introduces Complete Dribbling, First Touch Control
Kinect capability to be detailed later in the year

EA Sports has officially lifted the wraps on FIFA 13 and introduced this year's big gameplay improvements, with Complete Dribbling, First Touch Control and Attacking Intelligence all coming to this year's model.

Complete Dribbling's a feature that's partly inspired by this year's FIFA Street reboot, allowing players to dance around the ball and face their opponents at all times.

First Touch Control, meanwhile, adds a more random element when players take the ball, with player attributes now playing a larger role in the control of a ball.

Attacking Intelligence lends AI partners a more creative mindset when going forwards, seeing them finding space and using it more smartly - and it's an introduction designed to counter-balance the Tactical Defending that was introduced last year.

This year's FIFA will also be the first to introduce Kinect control, although specifics on that are yet to fully emerge. "Yes, we've figured out a way to get it in there," EA Sports' David Rutter told Eurogamer. "We'll be showing it off later this year. I'm happy with how it's worked out. When it was announced at E3 last year, everyone was concerned but we said we'd do right by the franchise and I feel that we have."

Elsewhere, additions have been made to the Impact Engine that was introduced in FIFA 12, with some of the more notable bugs being ironed out and with a greater emphasis placed on off-the-ball physicality.

FIFA 13's confirmed for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and packshots also confirm versions for Vita, Wii, 3DS, PSP and PS2. EA Sports confirmed a Wii U version of FIFA is in development, but had nothing to share on the game as of yet.

FIFA 13 producer: FIFA will become an online service
EA Canada man anticipates "big change" from console manufacturers

FIFA 13 executive producer David Rutter says it's only a matter of time before the FIFA series becomes an online service, but suggests that hardware manufacturers need to loosen up their content networks first.

"I think ultimately that would be our aim, but it's not something that's going to happen in the next year," he told OXM after showing off the new FIFA, which you can read about in full in issue 86, out tomorrow.

"If you look at EA Sports Football Club and what we did last year, we tried to create an all-encompassing philosophy around the game in which your progress throughout the year would be tracked - being able to see how your friends were getting on and the ability to connect to a club, support them and inject real-world events into the game with scenarios or challenges.

"Those things changed the experience but they're not a true service as such. Ultimately, we'd love to get there, but there's a big change required in lots of areas in order to get there. It's coming, I think."

Asked what precisely these big changes might be, Rutter went on: "If you look at how our business in video games used to be - you'd make a game, put it in a box, sell it, people would play it and then you'd repeat - as we've gone onto the 360, the idea that most consoles are now connected lets us go beyond just serving consumers updates to the game.

"Do we deliver new features throughout the year, update gameplay - do we update the entire game at the end of the season rather than release new packaged goods? Those are things that aren't necessarily supported yet by first parties or ourselves, but as the industry side changes the way games are made I think that's the way things will go."

Microsoft's next Xbox console is heavily rumoured to feature expanded digital functionality, with some sources alleging that it'll be a download-only machine.

We think a disc-free (or for that matter, cartridge-free) Xbox is unlikely at this stage in the game - the internet's not up to the challenge, basically. But a raised bar for Xbox Live features is a fairly safe next gen bet. Epic's Tim Sweeney thinks Xbox needs to kill our "over-reliance" on "pieces of spinning plastic".

Whither the humble boxed game retailer, in these exciting times? "I've pretty much always bought my games from shops, I'm the same with records because I'm old," Rutter mused. "I've only recently started to buy digital music almost exclusively. I like 'things'."

"I think there is a point at which the world will end up being totally digital for most media and entertainment mediums - I've already got Netflix, On Demand cable, DLC I can download into my game like Euro - I've got all of these different things that I can add into my experiences in life digitally.

"But I do think there's an important place for shops. For us, when FIFA 13 comes out there will still be FIFA 12, 11, 10, 09 still there to buy and where are you going to get hold of them? They also do a lot of great stuff for us, things like having experts in the field being able to tell consumers what's good about a game - some people don't read magazines or websites and have no idea what they'll really want, so being able to walk into a specialised store is great.

"I don't know if Sainsbury's or Tesco are employing people like that, I suspect not. So if my mum wanted to buy my brother a game, where would she go?"

The part I liked most: ''F**kin stupid ref'' and the commentator says ''he's not happy with that decision'', it's Fifa, it's back for another year, but I might get it this time since I skipped the last two.

I may cancel my pre-order. Between Borderlands 2 and NHL 13, doubt I'll have time to play it. :(

FIFA 13 Ultimate Team Exploited, Permanent Bans Issued

EA Sports has been issuing permanent bans to folks exploiting the FIFA 13 Ultimate Team web app, taking it temporarily offline for maintenance earlier, before sorting the issue and bringing the service back online recently. Some unscrupulous types had been illegitimately gaining access to restricted packs of football players cards with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo in said packs, before selling them on for profit.

"Yesterday, a very small number of users attempted to gain an unfair advantage on the FUT web app. The FUT13 Web App had to be taken offline to be stabilised and ensure a level playing field for all FUT users," EA announced through its FIFA 13 Twitter feed. "Permanent bans for FIFA 13 FUT have been served to all users who attempted to gain an unfair advantage. Thanks for your patience while we create the best experience for all fans of FUT."

This is the second year running that the exploit has reared its ugly head, with the same thing happening to the FIFA 12 Ultimate Team. Furthermore, the exploit could have a lasting impact on FIFA 13's Ultimate Team economy despite the perma-bans that have been issued, as the players from the restricted packs that have been sold on will remain in the game.

We'll simply have to find out how the exploit will impact FIFA 13 when it release on September 25th in North America and September 28th in Europe.

FIFA 13 biggest sports video game ever
And biggest game of 2012 so far. Eye-watering UK sales figures revealed.

FIFA 13 is the biggest sports video game ever.

It sold over 4.5 million copies in the five days after launch - an astonishing sales feat that makes it 2012's biggest game so far.

EA sent a note to press overnight revealing new, eye-watering statistics for the football game series that just keeps on growing.

FIFA 13 was the number one selling game in at least 40 countries. One of these was the UK, where it went on sale last Friday and sold more than 1.23 million copies in the first 48 hours. That's 7.6 copies a second over the weekend. EA said FIFA 13 is only the second video game franchise ever to sell more than one million units in the UK within just one day, the first being Call of Duty. That means FIFA 13 sold 11.5 copies per second on the first day.

Sunday, 30th September was the busiest day for online gaming for a single title in EA history. 800,000 people played FIFA 13 simultaneously, and more than 66 million online game sessions have already been played. That's 600 million minutes of online play.

While FIFA 13 won't be wearing the best-selling game of 2012 crown for long (Black Ops 2 launches next month), EA Sports will be delighted with its sales performance. The franchise has shown remarkable growth worldwide and in the UK this generation and has left EA executives gushing.

"FIFA Soccer 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment," EA Sports boss Andrew Wilson said.

"Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said - FIFA Soccer 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created."
