FINISHED my mass effect themed xbox
« on: September 03, 2011, 05:49:51 PM »
So im modding my xbox and this is only like my 4th try? Lol so i wanted to share the awesomeness with you guys. Yes my xbox does have a theme but i dont  wanna say it just yet. :x  itll become clearer  when you see the 5th pic or so...

The tool i used was a dremel 4000 rotary tool.  Its like 90$  at home depot.  Pretty cheap. OMG i had the Hardest time cutting with my first dremel, this cordless one i first bought. Omg its a peice of sh*t, never us those. Theyre not powerful enough. So i exchanged for my corded one, and it cuts sooo easily.

Updated again to put up pic of the painted lexan.

Guys it doesnt take that long if you have the tools lol. If you just wanna cut out something itll take like  3 hrs i did this all in like 3 days lol
Im making a gears one also, then imma mod my ps3
Windy dont even get me started on that loveable asshole -_- i was thinking about a dragon age theme but i was like psssh its too hard... that wouldve been a cake walk if i had done it. The paragon symbol was the most trying, totally pissed me off oh and cutting on the inside of the xbox to make sure the glass lays flat. That also pissed me off...

Did you get paint on the camera? get the turps!!

That looks quite good actually, ure mad though!

As for a Dragon Age one, how about a Skyrim one that would be wicked!

Yeh it's good, the front could do with some work though. If you use painters tape then you can get the lines straight before you paint, easier to replace the faceplate and do that again as the rest looks wicked.

that's what i was gonna say when he replied to my comment.

I also think that a different paint on the front would be better. you could tape off the different parts and then use something like spray paint which would give you a smoother and more natural look to it.

FACT: i  AM using spray paint the black and red IS spraypaint..
The white isnt, i didnt wanna pay freaking 10.99 for a can of white spray that ill prolly only use twice in my life....
What happend to me was that A. I touched it while it was wet B i stood too close to it when i was spraypainting and all the spraypaint built up and dried like a mound of paint... so like i went over it again with paint (i shouldntve) ugh this xbox is hideous. Gonna use my halo xbox from now on... >.< faceplate is irking me BAD

OMG I totally know. I was looking at it last night and i was like i NEEED another faceplate.... ugh

Actually when i first got my xbox i broke the doors like i just stuck them there for the picture But really they dont stay on....

the best way is to sand your faceplate (Always sand), then spray a light covering from the max can distance (whatever it says on the can 12inch?). Let it dry, lightly sand any clumpy bits and repeat. Repetitive thin layers will make it look cleaner than one single coat. Repetitive sanding will even it out and make it perfect.

You could probably spray it all white, then painters tape the bits you want to keep white and spray the red over. or tape and spray each section seperate.
