Ninja Gaiden 3

Ninja Gaiden 3 revealed

Hack and slash sequel Ninja Gaiden 3 was shown behind closed doors at the Tokyo Game Show today.

Japanese publisher Tecmo Koei took the lid off of the game with a solitary image, VideoGamer.com reports.

Apparently we'll see series star Ryo Hayabusa's more human side, and discover more about him.

It's also a more violent and bloody experience, although we can't possibly imagine how. The image below holds clues.

The report suggests Ryo, like so many videogame characters these days, will be visiting hell and kicking ass.

No release date or platforms were mentioned.

The announcement comes as no surprise. Last year Team Ninja's new boss Yosuke Hayashi promised Ninja Gaiden would return - and that it would do so as a multi-platform game.

"We feel that we're in a position of being able to make that call, and to provide pure entertainment that's going to be enjoyed by action gamers and our fans," he said. "That calling is already there - we feel it, and therefore we will continue to work towards a future for the series."

Xbox 360-exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 was released in June 2008.

Making it more accessible is a great idea. The reason I never got far in NG2 was because no matter what I did the combat was always just beyond my grasp. Other than that it seemed like a really good game, and I enjoyed the first one, so I hope this turns out well.

Achy finished NG2 on the hardest difficulty, I think he's got the full 1000 on it too, very impressive, I might get it back again, it's only a few quid pre-owned these days.

I loved Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox.  I borrowed NG2 from a friend a long time ago.  It sat on my shelf for weeks untouched before I felt guilty and just gave it back.

I'll get around to it .... eventually.   :-\

Definitely.  I think I was obsessed with Mass Effect or something at the time.    :-\

Ninja Gaiden 3 TGS Video: Hayabusa Faces the Consequences

Tecmo Koei has released a trailer for Ninja Gaiden 3, revealing a new 'Consequences' system for the game, wherein Ryu Hayabusa - with his funky infected, demonic arm - will have choices to make, as certain characters will plead for their lives, and you'll have the last say in whether they live or die. The final cut, so to speak.

Developer Team Ninja is also introducing an easy mode with auto-blocking and auto-evasion to widen Ninja Gaiden 3's potential audience, but hard mode will still be just that. Hard as nails, hard. With the Consequences system, you'll also have to carefully consider your actions, as they may come back to haunt you later on in the game.

Check out the trailer to see more of Ninja Gaiden 3's Consequences, then sharpen your katana for the game's launch in early 2012.
