Official Kinect SDK available now
« on: June 17, 2011, 12:16:21 PM »
Fancy having a (officially sanctioned) tinker with Microsoft's Kinect tech? Good news, the platform holder has just launched a free SDK beta.

As announced on Major Nelson's blog, the Kinect for Windows SDK download includes drivers, APIs, device interfaces, installer documents and resource materials.

You can grab it now from Microsoft Research.

As noted on the site, the SDK "enables the academic and enthusiast communities easy access to the capabilities offered by the Microsoft Kinect device connected to computers running the Windows 7 operating system."

There's already so many great homebrew applications, prior to the release of an official SDK.  I look forward to seeing what the community can come up with given proper tools.

Hopefully this will lead to Kinect XBL Indie Games, and possibly Kinect XBLA Games for those rare gems.
