Title: Borderlands 2
Post by: GamerMan316 on November 12, 2009, 05:54:35 AM
Gearbox: Borderlands 2 is a "No-Brainer"

Gearbox were admittedly nervous about launching their new IP, Borderlands, a few months back, citing concerns about how the public will take to the new cel-shaded look of the game. My how things can change in a matter months.

Speaking to VG247 today, Gearbox's Creative Director, Mike Neumann, stated that Borderlands 2 is a "no-brainer."

"Yes, I can probably confirm that there's a chance of a Borderlands 2. I mean, with anything, especially a new IP, if people want more and you can make more, and everybody can make money and do good business there, it obviously makes really good sense to do that," Neumann stated.

"Obviously nothing so far is planned. We're working on DLC. We haven't really had any talks about a sequel, other than water cooler talk like, 'Wouldn't this be cool?' kind of stuff."

Furthermore, Neumann added, "But yeah, Borderlands is really exciting. Everyone here loves the franchise, and it seems like the public is really coming back with praise and love. So yeah, if everything makes sense, Borderlands 2 seems like a no-brainer to me."

Good.

Hopefully the sequel picks up exactly where the first left off.  Because the ending of the first made very little sense, but strangely not in the way a sequel-setup doesn't make sense.  It just didn't really make sense.

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I still had no idea who was betraying whom, and who the damn white-haired woman actually was.

Take-Two: Borderlands franchise 'important' and 'long-term'

After being recognized as the year's fastest-selling new IP and its developer calling a sequel a "no-brainer," Borderlands is "showing every sign of becoming an important, long-term franchise" for publisher Take-Two Interactive. That comment was made today by company chairman Strauss Zelnick, during the same earnings call in which a considerable delay for another important franchise title, Max Payne 3, was disclosed.

But really, who cares about Max "I don't need an intervention" Payne when faced with the prospect of Borderlands: The Clap Trap Chronicles?

Borderlands 2 confirmed - source

Borderlands 2 is in development at Gearbox Software, Eurogamer understands.

We've heard an announcement from publisher 2K Games will be made soon.

A source close to the game told Eurogamer the Gearbox-developed shooter will release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year.

Borderlands 2 has been rumoured for months now. In April Borderlands 2 was spotted on a game developer's online CV – sparking speculation that the sequel will be announced at E3 in June.

Following that revelation, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford told Eurogamer the Duke Nukem Forever developer had every intention of revisiting the Borderlands franchise at some point in the future.

"I can tell you that myself and everyone at Gearbox LOVES Borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it's gotten from our customers and the fact that it's sold over four million units now," he said.

"So you can see that we supported the game like mad with lots of great DLC and you can imagine that we're going to want to do a lot of things with Borderlands in the future.

"But we've only announced what we've announced. If we haven't announced it, it doesn't exist.

"Plans and efforts towards the future always exist with a forward looking studio like Gearbox, of course," he continued, "but brainstorming and blue sky research and development should never be allowed to be construed into a customer promise.

"A customer promise should not be made until that promise becomes sufficiently clear and ready and the commitment is there to deliver upon the promise."

The 2009 co-op fuelled shooter was a hit with critics and gamers, and publisher 2K Games has described a sequel as "a no-brainer". Eurogamer's Borderlands review looted an 8/10.

2K had not responded to Eurogamer at the time of publication.

Borderlands 2 details emerge

New Borderlands 2 details have emerged from US magazine Game Informer.

The 2012 FPS, like Borderlands, supports four-player co-op, but this time the protagonists from the first game are NPCs.

So, four new characters are available to play as. The first is Salvador, the Gunzerker, a stocky bloke who can dual-wield any weapon in the game. There he is below.

Eridium is the new game's currency, and is used to improve weapon and vehicle statistics. The first game's three-branch skill tree returns.

Dynamic story missions aim to improve storytelling. The narrative is shaped around your approach to an objective, the magazine says.

NPCs are improved. They will converse with the player character in a more interactive manner. Enemy AI is greatly improved.

As previously mentioned there are all new weapons, but all of the guns in the first game have been scrapped. Vehicles are more varied. One shown is called the Bandit Technical.

Oh, and of course, amusing/annoying robot Claptrap is back.

I already had the Collector's Edition preordered at GameStop, but I've been on the fence about it.

After doing a little research (http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=143276), I've discovered all DLC (Slaughter Dome, Collector's Bonus DLC, etc.) will be available to the public after launch.

So since I have no need for anymore physical gaming swag to clutter up my guestroom, I'm going to downgrade to the normal version and buy it from Amazon instead ($10 giftcard).

Borderlands 2's Season Pass Will Cost Around $30, Offer Access to Four Add-Ons

[Update]

2K Games has made the official announcement. The Season Pass will indeed offer four add-ons, which "each feature several hours of gameplay and introduce new adventures, allies, enemies and environments." It will cost 2400 MSP. The add-ons will also be available individually for 800 MSP.

All four add-ons are scheduled to be available by June 2013.

[Original Story]

The first news has emerged regarding Borderlands 2’s “season pass.”

The pass, which will offer access to the upcoming shooter’s downloadable expansions, will cost around $30. There will be four such add-ons.

A proper reveal and more details are promised “soon,” which suggests a PAX announcement. We’ll keep you posted, obvs.

Borderlands 2 hits on September 18th in North America and September 21st in Europe.

Randy Pitchford Drops Borderlands 2 DLC Hints

With Borderlands 2 out this week, Gearbox CEO and Borderlands Executive Producer, Randy Pitchford has offered up the first hints regarding DLC for the game during the 2K Borderlands 2 panel at the Gearbox Software Community Day. Apparently, Pitchford wants to do something that would pay homage to Return of the Jedi's sand skiff.

"I've always wanted to ride a sail barge and drive a sand skiff," said Pitchford. "I've always wanted to do that, and we've got some cool stuff that's along those lines."

There's four DLC packs planned for Borderlands 2 to release by June 2013. You'll be able to grab the Borderlands 2 Season Pass in order to get your hands on all four packs for the price of three, which works out to roughly $30. Borderlands 2 is out on September 18th in North America and September 21st in Europe.

Borderlands:Borderlands 2::Left4Dead:Left4Dead2

I couldn't justify spending $60 + possibly $30 for DLC for a game that is largely identical to the previous one :(  The classes scream similarities to the first games classes, still just one actual active skill per class, etc.  I mean I guess if I really wanted to experience the same game with a different story, I'd pick this up, but to me action-RPGs aren't about the story.

Besides, two days after Borderlands 2's release date will see my already downloaded copy of Torchlight 2 unlock, which will satisfy my action-RPG craving for some time.  TL2 offers significant features the first one didn't, while only costing $20.

Unbelievable.  The Deluxe edition is $100, and comes with such extras as the "Game case" and "Game disc" as well as *gasp* FOUR STICKERS!  At $10/sticker that's gotta be a steal, right?  Oh, almost forgot the comic book it comes with.  Wait, no, that's just a download, they didn't want to spend any money to print it.

I won't even get into the $150 dollar edition.  What gets me most though, is that the DLC pass is an additional $30, EVEN IF you buy the $100 or $150 editions.

It also feels like no risks or innovations were taken with the game.  It's got a different story and "different" (lol) classes, as well as some cosmetic differences in the guns you find I guess?  Oh and different terrain to look at.

Some people like Pepsi, some people like Coke.  I like Mountain Dew, and I've already paid for a Pepsi.  I don't want to pay for Mountain Dew to have Gearbox laughing all the way to the bank as they hand me another Pepsi.

Borderlands 2 glitch erases Badass Rank, locks out completed challenges

Not too sure if somebody has mentioned this in here already so I just thought I'd add anyway. I haven't played the 1st game either so not too familiar with the terms mentioned in relation to this game either, just posting for people as a heads up!

A number of players are reporting a Borderlands 2 glitch that wipes out their hard earned Badass Rank. Gearbox says its investigating.

One of the many marvelously user-friendly features in Gearbox’s Borderlands 2 is the Badass Rank. Slowly unlocked perks separate from your character’s level and skillset, the Badass Rank is an elegant version of the New Game+. Borderlands 2 is a lengthy, involved game, but you’re going to want to start new characters depending on who you’re playing with, and the Badass Rank ties to any character you create, giving you a base level of improving stats that make revisiting the game from different angles accessible without making it too easy and boring. Smart stuff. Too bad there’s a bug in the game that will wipe out your Badass Rank.

A number of users in Gearbox’s official forums have reported a problem where their Badass Rank is set back to zero and all the associated bonuses, including the stat boosts and unlocked character customization options, are wiped away. Compounding the problem is the fact that the challenges that raise the Badass Rank (e.g. shoot this many enemies, collect this many guns, etc.) aren’t reset alongside the rank itself so affected players can’t simply rebuild what’s been lost.

While the initial report about the problem was from a player on the Xbox 360 version, others playing the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of the game have also reported the same problem.
Gearbox community manager Chris Faylor said that the studio is working fast to fix the problem. “Our engineers are looking into this, and the information you’ve provided has proven to be a great resource while we investigate,” said Faylor, “At the moment, it seems to be a fairly rare issue and we’ll keep you updated on when we resolve it.”

The original Borderlands was no stranger to glitches like this when it released in 2009. At least the Borderlands 2 glitch only erases the Badass Rank and its associated perks. The Borderlands glitch erased everything. When players would leave a multiplayer game on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PC they would lose all their weapons proficiencies and skill points, and though the proficiencies could be rebuilt, the skill points were erased forever meaning that they needed to restart the entire game.

Gearbox fixed that problem eventually though, and this new glitch will definitely be addressed. Players affected by the Borderlands 2 glitch should take comfort in the fact that their lost Badass Rank might even be salvageable since the challenges that earn the rank aren’t reset.

My suggestion would be, if you have a MU or "Cloud Storage" - maybe back up a copy of your save after each play session onto one or both (just in case). I didn't run into any problems with the first Borderlands, but I believe I didn't play the game until the update had been applied. I can't say if the "backup" restore technique works, since I haven't run into the issue, but it's an option to try.

The only problem I've run into is a side mission that just won't allow me to close it out for some reason. "Do No Harm" keeps telling me to talk to Tannis in Sanctuary, but each time I talk to her she asks how the mission is going...  ??? I'm thinking that might be addressed in the update also, since I've read on the forums that it's a common bug.

BTW Completely un-related to the issues at hand- [Borderlands Origins Issue 1 (http://www.comixology.com/Borderlands-Origins-1-of-4/digital-comic/SEP120362?utm_source=socialmedia&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=borderlands)] - Free Stuffs... 8)

On the main menu of the game, go to extras and select shift code. You'll be promted to sign up for Gearbox  Shift. Sign up and you get a golden key and, if the discription is accurate, more goodies in the future.

Just remember not to use that key too early...especially since you only get one shot at it, (from what I've heard) regardless of whether or not you start a new game with a new character. ;)

So you guys have a good build for the gunzerker? I started out with him and I feel I made some bad skill choices. Maybe all I need are bigger guns.

I've gone Assassin Style - but I believe you can reset your skill points in Sanctuary. Just go to the Quick Change kiosk, select "Reset Skill Points" and you should be able to re-asses your "bad skill choices". ;)

I've reset my skilltree at least 3 times, and each time I've been happy with the results.  It's fairly cheap, so don't be afraid to experiment.

It's very easy to accidentally use your key(s) if you're not careful.  There's no "are you sure?" prompt or anything, you simply open the special gold loot chest the same as any ordinary chest.  Keep that in mind.

I'm not using the key until I reach level 45 or 50. In other news, I don't like pubs. Most of the dudes I've encountered are micless loot snipers. If you see me on the 360DF XBox gamertag on you can send an invite. I'm mainly playing as a Commando.

You're the only Commando I've discovered so far.  I play as a Siren (as I did in the 1st).  If I run across anymore Commando skins/heads, I'll send them your way.   :)

There's a nasty bug going arround the Xbox version. There is a "Hardcore mode," that Gearbox left in the game but you cannot access normally. Using something called the "Graveyard" exploit some gamers have accessed this mode. This mode has a permadeath feature similar to the one found in Diablo III. Since the exploit was released on the internet, trolls have been more or less been causing normal players to lose their progress, and their characters, in the game. In other words, no pubs until they patch this up. Play with friends that you know would never do this to you. Here's a link talking about this problem: http://www.screwattack.com/news/xbox-360-owners-borderlands-2-might-want-play-solo-or-risk-their-saves

In lighter news, Captain Scarlett and the Pirate's Booty is a decent addition to the game. The only gripe I've heard from others is that the two "Raid" style bosses unlocked at the end of the questline are unfairly difficult.

Gear up for Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt -- the third campaign add-on for Borderlands 2, arriving January 15 -- with special in-game events leading up to its release!

The final day of festivities is upon us, as Pandora grows more dangerous (but also more rewarding) for those adventuring online alongside two or more players in True Vault Hunter Mode* -- should the varkids infesting Tundra Express, Caustic Caverns or Natural Selection Annex survive long enough to enter the pod state multiple times, they stand a far greater chance of morphing into the fearsome Vermivorous the Invincible. However, those that emerge victorious in their struggles against Vermivorous the Invincible also face greater rewards as the legendary Norfleet weapon is far more likely to appear upon his defeat.

This chance to hunt one of Pandora's most elusive beasts ends at 10:55AM CST / 4:55PM GMT on Tuesday, January 15

To assume only "black people" use urban vernacular is racist in & of itself.  To see racism in Tiny Tina, is only mirroring your own racism.

Borderlands 2 Gets Free "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode"
Source: [Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5992135/borderlands-2-is-getting-a-second-new-game-plus-mode-next-week)]

Quote
If you've played Borderlands 2 to completion and then played it through to completion a second time on True Vault Hunter Mode, and you're still looking for more, you'll be happy to hear that the game is getting something of a new game plus plus mode.

It's called Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, and you'll have to be at level 50 to run through on what will essentially be a third playthrough. This official third playthrough means, of course, that the difficulty will be scaled much higher. Gearbox announced the news today at their PAX East panel.

The update comes out next week on April 2. Best news, though? It's a completely free update.

Borderlands 2 Gets Level Cap(61) Increase April 2nd!

Quote
At Gearbox's PAX East panel today, the developers of Borderlands 2 announced that players maxed out at level 50 will finally be able to get to leveling their characters again. As of April 2nd (next week!) you can download what is basically DLC for 11 extra levels (that's up to 61).

But it'll cost you $5 for the add-on, unless you've got that nifty season pass.

The add-on will also come with the return of the Pearlescent weapon type, which was a set of high-level weapon drops and an extremely rare find in Borderlands 1. We haven't seen this weapon type in the sequel yet, but if you download the add-on next week, you might see it pop up here and there if you're lucky to find one of those crafty little guns.

Now,I've never played either borderlands and my stupid question is; is it any good? Heard mixed things about it but still undecided wether to get it. Convince me.

Enjoying Borderlands I think really depends on your personal taste, TBH. Admittedly though, Borderlands 2 is much more improved than the original, which played better in co-op mode but could feel like a grind when playing solo.

If you're into looting, absurd humor and some frantic shooter action mixed in with RPG elements, it'll work for you - especially if you like playing co-op.

Plus, the DLC is usually hefty and packed with more than just skins and/or maps.

Cool. Might be worth a dabble then. Loved fallout 3 and I assume this is in a similar vein?
Might be my bag.

^^ I've got this Sarge but not really played it yet. If you do get it I'd be for some co-op.

I had in mind a long winded explanation of the differences between Borderlands and Fallout (which will surface once you get into it), but suffice to say, Borderlands is Fallout on a crank and acid trip. Plus, I don't know which game has the most intimidating boss fights, but I know which one induces laughter before handing my ass to me on a plate:

A related note from the almost 1hr 30min interview is the following announcement about future DLC for Borderlands 2:

"We are going to do more, we are going to do some other things. I don't have details exactly of it yet cause we're not ready to announce what the other things are..." Apparently Gearbox has "more stuff in the hopper that we're planning and getting pretty excited about. So if you are a Borderlands 2 fan, you don't have to be afraid that that's the end of it."

Gearbox Software: Borderlands 2 DLC - It Ain't Over!

According to [Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/new-dlc-will-bust-a-cap-in-borderlands-2-848990432)], Gearbox Software has announced that more DLC for Borderlands 2 is on its way. The article details that the new piece of digital Ka-boom-boom! will not be released until MS completes their switch over to actual currency and has also not mentioned if this release is to be included as part of the Season Pass(slim-chance, methinks).

But what's been made known is:

The DLC is titled: "Headhunter Pack: T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest"

It will include an extra mission, a themed boss fight with T.K. Baha himself, and an epic boss battle against a giant pumpkin, Jacques O’ Lantern. Gearbox also announced that more Headhunter packs are expected for release later in the year.

Also Announced:

Along with this Headhunter DLC Pack, another upgrade pack will be made available. "Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2" (said download for $5.00 / £3.30) will be released at the same time as "Baha’s Bloody Harvest" and will feature yet another level cap increase up to 72! A new Digistruct Peak Challenge will be included which contains a new map and loot. The DLC will also feature a way to allow players to over-level the game for extra challenges.

No price or achievement news have been relayed for all the other stuffs.

The Borderlands 2 GOTY Edition is scheduled to hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 8 in North America, and on the 11th in other regions.

DLC Details:

Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge
The level cap raise (Level 72)will occur in the "Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge." The challenge refers to a new map and a mode in which you may fight overpowered enemies "for new loot and the ability to 'over level' your game for extra challenges," Gearbox said in a fact sheet. It'll be $5 and it isn't part of the Season Pass DLC.

Borderlands 2 will soon be updated with a more sensible notion in mind:

Quote
There are three recognized types of CVD. Deuteranomaly or deuteranopia (a red-green colorblindness) is the most common. 7% of males and 0.5% of females have it. Deuteranopes have either defective or missing M-cones, so they have problems seeing green. Protanomaly or protanopia (a different red-green colorblindness) is more rare. 2% of males and 0.05% of females have it. Protanopes have either defective or missing L-cones, so they have problems seeing red. Tritanomaly or tritanopia (commonly referred to as blue-yellow colorblindness) is the most rare. Less than 1% of people have it. Tritanopes have either missing or defective S-cones, so they have problems seeing blue. The difference between the “nomaly” type and the “nopia” type is that in the “nomaly” case, the cone is present but not functioning properly. In the “nopia” case, the cone is completely missing. People who are of the “nomaly” type may be only partially colorblind. They may be able to detect more intense shades of a color, but have difficulty when the color is less saturated.

Expected adjustments to the color space:

Additionally, Gearbox will be adding labels to loot drops in order to assist:

This might be a little late in the game's life cycle, but I'm sure it's a welcome feature for those who experience trouble with color-spaces.

Accroding to [TA (https://www.trueachievements.com/n37899/borderlands-2-commander-lilith)] - a brief posting appeared on Steam (before being pulled down) detailing a new DLC for Borderlands 2 -

Description:
Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault's map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet

TA points out that according to the posting, the DLC would be released in just three days time on June 9th and would raise the level cap to level 80, while any new player will instantly be leveled up to level 30 so they can immediately play the DLC. This will prepare players for helping Lilith and the Crimson Raiders defend Sanctuary.
