The Anime Thread
« on: July 24, 2009, 10:23:33 AM »
I noticed Failed & Neato talking about Anime in a thread, AdamisTAlogan is a massive fan too & now with the new Halo anime upon us, i thought i'd start a thread on Anime in general, general discussion, favourite films etc.

Here are just a few of my favourites.

Golgo 13 - The Professional
Devil Man
Legend of the Dragon Kings (shown on Channel 4 in the 90's as Legend of the 4 Kings)
Princess Mononoke
Wicked City
Fist of the North Star (first one i ever saw)
Street Fighter 2
Ninja Scroll
Perfect Blue
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Sky Blue

i probably don't watch even half as much as some members on here but i do own quite a lot, just never get round to watching them.

I've watched a ton of anime in my day, and I think I've hated every second of it.

Perhaps I should explain: My brother and I used to go to Blockbuster (movie rental place, if you don't have these across the pond) and play this movie rental game we devised where-in you each get 2 vetos and a limited number of movie picks. So, the idea is to pick a movie just weird enough so that your opponant has to waste a veto, but not quite so weird that you wouldn't mind watching it if you get stuck with it. Because of this system we have ended up watching some really great indie and foreign films that we would have missed otherwise. Unfortunately, because of this system we have also ended up watching a load of really piss poor animes.

Piss poor animes including, but not limited to (with 5 :'( ranking system for how bad they were):

Blood: The Last Vampire  :'( :'(
Akira  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Vampire Hunter D  :'( :'( :'(
Cowboy Bebop movie  :'( :'( :'( :'(
Vampire Hunter D sequel  :'(
.hack//sign (series)  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Yuyu Hakusho  :'( :'( :'(
Tenchi Muyo (the first one, and Tokyo)  :'( :'(
Kamichu!  :'( :'(

But I most certainly am!!

Although I have to admit I am stuck in the relentless cycle of fillers on Bleach at the moment......

I remember watching this for weeks on end (aired about midnight on C4 on a Friday) and if I remember rightly missed the last two episodes... >:(

that's right, it was when Channel 4 were really promoting anime, then suddenly stopped, luckily Bravo & Sci-Fi continued to show new stuff.

Oh Nos!  You a-broka-muh heart.

I liked Vampire Hunter D and Cowboy Bebop.

Akira is sort of the 'Final Fantasy 7' of anime.  It broke new ground for the industry and won critics over, but if you were to watch it today, it's meh.

The rest I either never watched, or didnt' like (Blood: The Last Vampire).

Vampire Hunter D 2 was actually watchable. Anything on my list that is  :'( :'( or less means that I can watch it without hating myself for having watched it, so Vamp Hunter D2, Blood, Tenchi, and Kamichu!. It doesn't mean I'm having a grand ole' time, just that I don't want to blow my brains out.

In all fairness, I didn't totally hate Cowboy Bebop the show, but Cowboy Bebop the movie was booooooring. In fact, I considered Samurai Champloo to be a big let down because I was expecting Bebop levels of not-badedness.

I still don't see how someone can sit through Akira. I defy someone to make sense of the plot in that movie. DEFY!

Morning guys!
Sorry to bump the thread but I wanted to advertise a new group that is in Facebook and trying to increase it's members.

It's a bleach based one and there for chatting about the anime and manga which is currently running and wanted to extend the invitation to those who would be interesed in joining to come along.
You can either go onto my profile and find it on there as it's a new group I'm in or let me know and I'll invite you.
Please bear in mind that this is VERY new so has only a fw members and we are trying to grow that!

Thanks
