Title: The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series
Post by: GamerMan316 on February 15, 2012, 07:09:10 PM
The Walking Dead Screens and Video Series Shamble In

Based upon both the graphic novel series and the hit TV show, The Walking Dead game is coming to consoles courtesy of Telltale Games, and will tell the story of a new group of survivors who like hero Sheriff Rick Grimes, are striving to escape from the zombie terror in Atlanta and the surrounding communities.

Taking place during the early days of the zombie apocalypse, you'll play through events that intersect with the graphic novels, meeting both new and familiar characters along the way. You'll be viewing the same things and going through a similar experience to Grimes as you make your escape, but from a different perspective.

There's new screens and the first in a new series called 'Playing Dead' below, which aims to answer questions about Telltale Games' The Walking Dead. Check out the first instalment in the series that looks at what the game is, with the Lead Designers fielding the questions.

don't know what to make of this yet. hopefully plays like a cross between L4D and older Resident evils rather than dead island.

I'm still whimpering away in my want for a post-zombie-apocalyptic RPG survival-adventure game! Sadly I think this is another one that won't quite do it.

Walking Dead FAQ

Is this a game about Rick Grimes, the hero of the comic books and TV show?
   • No. Robert Kirkman (creator of The Walking Dead) and Telltale felt that it would be more interesting to tell a story of a new group of survivors.

When does this game take place in The Walking Dead timeline?
   • Our first episode takes place at the outset of the zombie apocalypse when Rick Grimes is still in a coma.

Is this game based on the comic books or the TV show?
   • We see the comic books as canon.

So who do I play as?
   • You play the game as Lee Everett, a man convicted of a crime, but who is offered a chance at redemption…albeit in a world overtaken by walkers. You’ll only ever play as Lee and will see the world from his point of view.

Will I see anything from the comic books or TV show in the game?
   • Yes. You will meet some characters and visit locations seen in the comic books. You’ll learn about characters and events that have an impact on events seen in the comics. For example, how did Hershel’s son Shawn end up in the barn? Find out in the game.

Does this game use Quick Time Events as the major game-play dynamic and does it prevent the player from taking direct control of the player-character like Telltale’s Jurassic Park: The Game?
   • No. The Walking Dead offers a completely different game-play experience to Jurassic Park. QTEs do not form a major part of game-play and you will have full control over your character as you move through the game’s environments.

Why is this game episodic? What does that mean?
   • Telltale has a strong history of releasing episodic games but more importantly, we wanted this game to offer an experience analogous to the comic books and TV show, which are also episodic in nature. We have plans for 5 episodes, releasing once per month.

How long is each episode?
   • Skilled players will get through an episode on about 2 hours. Having episodes of this length means that most people will be able to get through them and we want that to happen. The game is not designed to present super-hard barriers and will not force you to grind through it in any way. We want you to complete an episode so that you’ll experience the story and be ready for the next episode.

Where will I be able to buy the game?
   • The game series is digital, meaning that you won’t be able to buy it from a retail store. The game is coming to all major gaming platforms, so, as long as you have an internet connection, it’s almost certain that you’ll have access to the game.

When will I see more screens and more importantly, when will I see the game in action?
   • Stay tuned for regular releases of screenshots and artwork. Every time an episode of Playing Dead goes out, you’ll see more new stuff (including the first ever look at Game-play!). Sign up on the website to be the first to find out about new episodes of Playing Dead and to get inside information on the game.

When will episode one of the game be available?
   • We’re saying ‘Spring’, however, episode one is right around the corner. This thing is coming fast!

What kind of game is this?
   • It’s an Adventure Horror game. This game will offer a different experience compared to many other zombie-based games. You won’t be mowing down hordes of the undead as a super-powered killing machine with unlimited ammo; that would not be an accurate recreation of Robert Kirkman’s world. When you do tangle with the undead, it’s going to be harrowing. That walker could be someone you once knew…or were very close to. Also, gunfire (or loud noises in general) are not good in areas where walkers could be lurking.

Does this game feature multiplayer?
   • No. The Walking Dead is a single-player experience.

Why does the game look the way it does?
   • We were inspired by the work of Charlie Adlard, artist for the comic books.

Is there anything unique about this game versus other Telltale games?
   • Yes. For the first time, the decisions that the player makes will drive a “tailored” game-play experience. A decision that you make or something that you say will have repercussions not only in the episode that you’re playing, but also in future episodes of the game. Decisions will range from relatively innocuous (do I lie here and if so, how should I lie?) though to world-changing (I can only save one person here, who will it be?). Furthermore, you’ll come under pressure to make decisions quickly. You won’t be able to stand around deciding which option to choose during a conversation. The undead won’t stand by and politely let you figure out your next move.

Telltale’s previous games have featured puzzle elements. Is that something we’ll see in The Walking Dead?
   • You’ll be challenged with problems for sure, but not classic ‘Adventure Game’ puzzles. You’re a survivor in a zombie apocalypse…you can imagine the problems that you’ll have to deal with.

The Walking Dead shambles into certification this week

The Walking Dead is getting closer -- grab the shotgun! -- and is expected to be submitted for certification on XBLA and PSN this week, with a release soon after, Telltale CEO Dan Connors told Digital Trend at GDC. Connors expects the certification process to take about six weeks, with the launch soon after, placing it in late April or May. He didn't specify the launch process for other platforms, including PC.

Telltale wants to capitalize on the "popularity" of the TV show, whose second season ends March 18, Digital Trend wrote. "Popularity" is of course a loaded term, but personally we've come to enjoy the show with a drinking game -- take a drink every time Lori is mad for a ridiculous reason; take two drinks every time an awkward silence lasts longer than four seconds; finish your drink every time someone shoots more bullets than their gun actually holds.

That said, we're looking forward to Telltale's adaptation; either we'll finally get to enjoy the comic in a new form, or we'll have to buy some more beer.

The Walking Dead debut trailer released
Telltale has talented fan create first official trailer

Telltale Games has released the debut trailer for its next episodic project, The Walking Dead, based on the popular TV show.

Interestingly, Telltale asked animator Daniel Kanemoto to produce the trailer "because of a 'fan made' Walking Dead title sequence he had made" (see it here (http://www.exmortisfilms.com/)).

The Walking Dead game will be released as five separate episodes, the first of which will arrive on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in 'late April' for $4.99/400 MS Points. Mac and PC players will be able to grab it from the Telltale Online Store for a $24.99 season pass.

Those who pre-order via the online store will also get a chance to appear as a character in the fourth episode of the game (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/340732/be-a-character-in-the-walking-dead-game/), along with a 10 percent discount.

The latest episode features a chat with Robert Kirkman regarding the comic books and why the game's story doesn't follow Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes, instead following a new group of survivors in Atlanta.  There's gameplay footage around the 7 minute mark and again towards the end of the vid.

Interesting.  Kind of a mix of Sam & Max and Silent Hill.  I like slow-paced character/story driven games.

Bonus, Mature rating confirmed at 14:22.  That's a (brutal) relief.   ;)

'The Walking Dead' Xbox 360 release date announced

The Walking Dead game has received an Xbox 360 release date from Telltale Games.

The first episode - titled 'A New Day' - will arrive this Friday (April 27) on Xbox Live Arcade for 400 MS points (£3.40 / $5).

The video game spinoff of the popular comic book and TV series features a brand new character named Lee Everett, a convicted murderer with a chance of redemption in the aftermath of the zombie outbreak.

Players will meet familiar characters such as Glenn, as well as new ones who can live or die in a branching story based on the choices in each episode.

The first episode launched today on PlayStation Network, PC and Mac, along with the option to order a season pass. An iOS port, meanwhile, launches in the summer.

The Walking Dead Episode 2 Coming "Around the End of June"

Telltale Games has given the first indication as to when Episode 2 of The Walking Dead will arrive. According to the developer, the game should be available to download "around the end of June.”

There’s no proper date as yet as the episode still undergoing certification. When it does finally reach us, we’ll rejoin the group three months after the events of Ep 1, when “things have gotten tenser—food is scarce, and no one in the party is a particularly good hunter.”

In total there will be five The Walking Dead episodes, with your decisions carrying over. The first episode released on XBLA in April to rave reviews.

The Walking Dead Episode 2 Finally Coming to XBLA Tomorrow

At last! You'll be able to continue the ongoing The Walking Dead saga on the Xbox Live Arcade from tomorrow, as the second episode of Telltale Games' five episode series is set to arrive for download tomorrow, after a bit of a delay.

Still, it fits in with Telltale Games' promised release timeframe after the episode got held up by the certification process. Episode 2 of The Walking Dead picks up the story three months after the events of Episode 1, where things have got even more desperate.

You'll be able to continue with the decisions you made in The Walking Dead Episode 1, as protagonist Lee Everett fights for survival alongside a party of fellow survivors. You'll be able to get back to the zombie action when The Walking Dead Episode 2: Starved For Help releases tomorrow for 400 Microsoft Points.

The Walking Dead : Episode 3 Strolls Casually onto XBL Tomorrow

The Walking Dead: Episode 3 looks like it’s going to hit its promised release window. The latest instalment of the popular series will hit Xbox Live tomorrow.

Due to the last-minute nature of the announcement, there had been some concern that the game would slip past the August release date promised by Telltale back in July, but it looks like it’ll just squeeze in.

Titled ‘Long Road Ahead,’ the episode will see Lee and the gang move out of Macon, as the drama, tension and gore moves up another notch. It'll cost 400 MSP.

There’s a trailer for the episode below, courtesy of IGN.

The Walking Dead coming to retail in early December
i.e. the season will wrap up by then.

Telltale Games' gripping episodic zombie series The Walking Dead is going to be collected in one complete retail package coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 in North America on 4th December.

The bundled release is heading to Europe too, even if no specific date has been announced.

This information comes from Telltale's official twitter account (https://twitter.com/telltalegames/status/249574532787101696) where the studio replied to a fan asking if the series would come out on a disc. "As a matter of fact, yes!" the studio replied. "Entire season on disc. Dec 4th in NA for Xbox 360 and PS3. EU dates TBA."

What's notable about this for European folk is it means the series will have wrapped up by then. So far each episode has been released close to two months apart, so it appears the next two chapters will be rolling in at an accelerated pace. That's great for us impatient types, but let's just hope these final two episodes - Around Every Corner and No Time Left - aren't rushed.

Now the question remains, how are they going to top that thing that happened in Episode 3? Because holy f*** was that brutal. You know what I'm talking about, people who've played it.

The Walking Dead Ep 4 Set to Arrive Next Month

Telltale is promising that the fourth episode of The Walking Dead will hit next month. Called Around Every Corner and written by The Book of Eli scribe Gary Whitta the episode “will be launching very soon this October.”

Following the release of Around Every Corner a fifth episode, called No Time Left, will hit later this year, with a disc containing all five episodes set to arrive in December. Lovely stuff.

The Walking Dead Collector's Edition Unveiled

Zombie fanciers, rejoice! The Walking Dead is not only winging its way towards you on a shiny disc that will be sold in retail shops, but GameStop in North America is offering an Exclusive Collector's Edition of the disc-based release, which comes with a nice little extra.

We say little, but it's actually pretty big. You get The Walking Dead Compendium One bundled with the game, both of which come with exclusive cover art from mainstay Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard. The compendium collects issues 1-48 of the comic book, which translates to over 1000 pages of Walking Dead graphic novel goodness.

The Walking Dead is completely amazing, by the way. You'll be able to snap it up on disc - assuming you haven't already voraciously devoured each downloadable episode - on December 4th in North America for $29.99. The GameStop Collector's Edition will set you back $69.99. An EU release date has yet to be confirmed.

The Walking Dead Sells 8.5 Million Copies

The Walking Dead has racked up a whopping 8.5 million copies across all episodes and platforms.

That’s according to TellTale CEO Dan Connors who told the Wall Street Journal that the first season of the episodic series reached the figure after just seven months.

"November and December were our biggest months," said Connors. "It was the culmination of the product, the game of the year awards, the retail push and it still has a ton of head room in it."

Meanwhile, TellTale is also looking at a way in which to make your choices in the first season of the game meaningful in the second season. "We are definitely figuring out how to carry the saves over," Connors told Red Bull UK.

Extra Walking Dead Content Teased by Telltale in the Run-Up to Season Two

Telltale Games is apparently working on more content for The Walking Dead ahead of the episodic game's second season, bridging the waiting time between the end of the first season and the beginning of the impending season two.

"You won't have to wait for season two to play more Walking Dead," teased series writer Gary Whitta.

"I can tell you what you already know, which is season two is coming. There’s not much to say because it really is very early…it’s a way off," Whitta added. "But, knowing that it’s a way off, and knowing that people are hungry for more walking Dead…there may very well be more Walking Dead from Telltale before season two. We may have a little something extra for you between season one and two.”

Whitta commented that the new content Telltale has up its sleeve "will make the wait for season two slightly less agonizing." It could be that the extra content is an epilogue to the first season, or perhaps some sort of deleted scenes. That's just us with our speculation hats on though. Nothing has been confirmed as yet.

The Walking Dead has been a huge success for Telltale Games, selling 8.5 million copies across all platforms, while garnering enormous critical success. More from Telltale's The Walking Dead can't come soon enough.

The Walking Dead Season 2 will release fall 2013, Telltale confirms
Panic over reported late 2014 release dispelled

If you're awaiting the arrival of The Walking Dead Season 2, you'll be unhappy to know that it may not release till "fall" next year. Oh sorry, I meant fall this year. Hang on, what was the question?

Eurogamer reported last night that Telltale's next helping of undead molestation and branching dialogue would skip 2013. "We're aiming for fall next year," studio co-founder and CEO Dan Connors told the site, shortly after receiving a BAFTA Game Award for Best Story.

Thankfully, this appears to have been an error, as a statement mailed to GameInformer explains. "The current estimated release window for Season Two of The Walking Dead is for fall of 'this' year (2013), and not 'next' year (2014) as has been reported after a recent interview," it reads.

"We apologize for any confusion and thank you and all of our fans for your continued excitement for Telltale's series."

Where do you want the next season to take us?

Got this in the spring sale. Very very impressed.
Yes it can look a bit shoddy, Yes there is not much in the terms of actual gameplay but in terms of story telling and emotional attachment it could teach a lot of full price games a thing or two.

Very true. I walked into this game (no pun) with some reservations as to why it won so much acclaim. I knew it would be good, but doubted the 'great' label.

That said, I just finished playing this last week and I think it's one of the first games that really managed to place me in spots where I'm still wondering "What If?" - in regards to some of the choices made. The narrative of the choices presented puts every other game that claims, "choice-based gameplay" to shame.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days DLC spotted on Steam
Telltale's "a little something extra" for fans nearing release?

A new DLC for Telltale's The Walking Dead series called 400 Days has been spotted lurking on the Steam database.

The unannounced add-on popped up last night, IGN reported. Its appearance follows a week-long teaser campaign by Telltale featuring a trio of new characters.

Telltale has been posting a series of short videos (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-04-telltale-games-releases-new-the-walking-dead-teaser) introducing new faces Vince, Bonnie and Russell.

The last of the videos finishes on a brief close-up of the number '400', a hint that Telltale's new characters will appear in the DLC.

Telltale previously teased "a little something extra" would be released for fans before the The Walking Dead: Season Two this autumn. It looks like this it.

The Walking Dead: Season Two Unveiled, Stars Clementine

Telltale Games has officially announced The Walking Dead: Season Two, continuing the story of young survivor Clementine, who setting out on her own will have to make the same kind of moral decisions and suffer the consequences of her actions, in a world going increasingly mad amid a plague of undead.

Set to premiere later this year, The Walking Dead: Season Two will consist of another five episodes, which will conclude with the final part sometime in 2014. Expect more nerve-shredding encounters with both zombies, and humans who've lost their mind.

Furthermore, The Walking Dead: Game of the Year Edition with all five season one episodes and the additional 400 Days episode will be coming to Xbox 360 in November for $29.99. And the series has also sold more than 21 million episodes since the beginning of the first season. Wow.

Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season Three confirmed
Still not bitten.

Telltale's The Walking Dead will return for a third season of episodes, the developer has confirmed.

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and Telltale founder Kevin Bruner confirmed the news during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.

The developer is currently wrapping up the game's second season - its penultimate episode released last week, with the finale expected in the not-too distant future.

Details on the game's third slate of episodes currently remain scarce and with the second season finale still to go, who knows which characters will live to see the next series.

Telltale's other upcoming projects include its Tales from the Borderlands, based on Gearbox's shooter series, and a mysterious Game of Thrones tie-in.
