L4D 2 pre-order bonus

Valve is offering a number of enticing pre-order offers for their upcoming zombicidal action title, Left 4 Dead 2. For the impatient among us, dropping a reservation on the game garners early access to the demo (which is set to drop October 27). For the thrifty among us, pre-ordering the game through Steam (or other participating digital distributors), knocks 10 percent off the total price of the game.

However, for the truly patriotic among us, Valve is offering a singularly thrilling bonus: An in-game "American baseball bat." We've contacted Valve to find out exactly what this means -- is pre-ordering the game really the only way to get our hands on this implement of the Great American Pastime? Or is it just a special "American" skin for the bat, which was previously confirmed to be one of the title's brand new melee weapons? We hope it's the latter, if only so we can sing "Courtesy of the Red, White And Blue" during our undead massacres.

Valve unveils fourth Left 4 Dead 2 mode

Valve has announced the new fourth game mode for Left 4 Dead 2 - Scavenge.

Scavenge is a round-based competitive multiplayer game for up to eight players, where a team of survivors attempts to collect and transport gas canisters to a generator somewhere on the map while a team of infected tries to stop them.

Each gas can brought to the generator adds a bit more time to the clock, which is ever ticking down, and scores the survivors' team a point. After three rounds each playing as both survivors and infected, the winner is the team with the most points.

According to people who have witnessed Scavenge at US press events, it's extremely fast-paced - something of a focus for Valve's recent Left 4 Dead efforts, in light of how long games of Versus take in the original.

1UP has reported that left 4 Dead 2 will contain a 'realism' modifier.
1UP noticed that the Scavenge mode, which Valve was showing off, had a 'Realism' modifier. Valve admits that it forgot to hide this option and Doug Lombardi, their VP of Marketing, explained what the option was.

"Take Portal for example: We had our best internal players who could blow through that game in about 30 minutes, but within weeks of launching it we had people on YouTube beating [the testers'] times by 10 minutes or more. Realism is for those players."

It's not explained how Realism will work, besides apparently making things tougher. Expert was notoriously tough on Left 4 Dead thanks to the huge increase in damage by the infected - what could Realism do to ramp up the difficulty in a different manner?

I can't say for sure if this is "Realism", but I do know that Left 4 Dead 2 will have an improved "Director" that can alter the environment as well as the zombies.  Perhaps by alterning the environment, it keep players guessing the correct path, making it feel more "real"?

I think it's great, but it's best played in co-op, single player is a bit boring to be honest.  Versus is cool too.

did you really just ask that? lmao it actually a game you could play over and over again. you learn two skills- team work/Self sacrific, and stalking your prey like a gang of hungry chinchillas while learning the land and setting traps!!! ok maybe that was more then two but you get the drift ;-D
