Microsoft Retiring Xbox 360

We all knew it was a matter of time...

Quote
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox Division, has today announced some sad but inevitable news - the company will cease manufacturing the Xbox 360 console.

In a statement celebrating Xbox 360's decade of service, Spencer went on to say that:

...the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us.

The Head of Xbox confirmed that the "existing inventory" of the console would continue to be sold, with "availability varying by country."

He also clarified what this means for Xbox 360 games and console owners:

-Xbox 360 owners will continue to receive Xbox Live services for their console, such as online multiplayer gaming and parties, access to the apps they use today, and Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.
-Xbox Live servers that support Xbox 360 services will also remain online and active. Our Xbox 360 fans can continue to play their favorite games with the full support of Xbox Live.
-Gamers will also be able to continue to buy over 4,000 Xbox 360 games or Xbox 360 accessories at retail and through our Xbox 360 store online, while supplies last.
-Any Xbox 360 hardware will still be supported at xbox.com/support.
-And Xbox One owners will be able to continue to enjoy available Xbox 360 games through Xbox One Backward Compatibility – at no additional cost.

Spencer finished off with a hint at further announcements on the future of Xbox One and Windows 10 gaming in "the next few weeks and months."

It was just a matter of time, great run for a great console, the RROD soured it a bit (happened three times to me) but the games lineup and functionality and of course the growth of Xbox Live more than made up for that.  Still have my 360 though it doesn't get used much since I got the Xbox One.
