MS points
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:30:17 AM »
I've seen this posted on a couple of places and wondered if anyone knew anything about it.

http://www.mspointsgenerators.com/?i=596846

That link is kinda like the bioware link only there appears to be no sign in.  When you click that link, it apparently give that number credit for a link click and you'll be given you're own URL for you to aquire points with.  It says 5 clicks (guessing unique clicks) and it'll give you a MS code for 1600 point. Can't imagine that's all it takes, but thought I'd post it and see.

Threads about these on the OXF...Beware as some of them are phising (sp?) scams.

Maybe not this exact site but I'm always wary of getting something for 'nothing'!

No doubt, I saw it over there as well.  I don't really understand the purpose because it just presents you with a unique number and anytime you click on your own unique url it just tells you how many people have clicked that link.  I get no phishing warning from my software and it doesn't want any info from you.  If 5 people were to click that link and post that they did, I'd post back how many that page tells me has clicked the link and perhaps we could foil this little thing.  Just a thought.

It's the usual spamming MS points crap that rears it's ugly head from time to time.  Avoid.

It's a scam.  Not neccessarily a phishing scam (unless it asks for any personal info).  It's more of an ad-revenue, pyramid scam.

After your code "unlocks", you are prompted to take a survey.  The surveys, however, do open the floodgates for all kinds of various phishing scams and trojan viruses.  Some even require you to buy something.

I was very surprised to get one of these messages passed onto me by Pony!  Deleted it straight of the bat.

Do you have a compiled list of these 'word-of-advice' numbers?

That's exactly where mine came from.

I think they attach to your friends list so it looks like a friend has sent them when in reality they haven't, it's the same as those dodgy youtube links and stuff on facebook.

I had a chat with Pony last night.  I was afraid he got his account phished, but it was him sending the messages.

I get those random 'messages' from friend with links in them, never had anyone tell me they get them from me yet though.

I'd imagine Pony got his info from XBT or whatever that forum is, think I've seen him post over there.

This was posted on facebook from xbox

Seems kinda suspect to me, but received this message through XBox Live tonight:

"We've enhanced Game Marketplace to make finding games and content easier. Try it for yourself with this token for 80 free Microsoft points."

There's a code, but I don't even feel like stirring it with a cattle-prod... :-\

Anyone else get this thru XBL?
