Remedy have said that the 360 version is their main priority and that the PC version may have to wait, they also discussed a possible demo but have said that it's unlikely that there'll be one.

Reassuring: Alan Wake is 'done,' being polished
Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne tells Joystiq that Alan Wake is finished and getting all gussied up for its release next spring. After a GDC Europe presentation on how Remedy handles intellectual property, we asked the executive if the long-in-development title would be ready to wake when the snow melts. Myllyrinne noted, "It's all done, we're just polishing at this point."
Wow, great! With something like six months to go before its "spring 2010" launch, Alan Wake should shine by the time it's released. Considering the title has been in development since 2005, it's good to know that the game is "done" and just trying to become its very best.

ill wait right here with anticipation

Me too :D

Alan Wake dev wants to avoid including game's ending in press copies
According to a Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrinne, the studio wants to discuss the possibility of leaving the ending of its upcoming thriller Alan Wake off discs sent to press with its publisher, Microsoft. "I think we're going to be insanely careful about how much of the story we reveal," Myllyrinne told G4TV. "I'd like to hold it back, don't want anybody to spoil it for the audience. That's just my personal feeling."
Using the twist ending of The Sixth Sense as an analogy, Myllrinne says he'd prefer players be able to piece together the secrets of Bright Falls on their own before having them spoiled by others. Although admirable, his analogy can only mean one of two things: Alan Wake is dead or he's Haley Joel Osment. Either way, we're already terrified.
-
that sounds like a good idea. developers should do that all the time

Report: Alan Wake stops snoozing May 2010
Alan Wake will allegedly premiere in late May of next year on Xbox 360. MCV reports that "a source close to the game" gave the new release date and suggested that the title would be promoted "in the style of a Hollywood movie."
Officially, we know that Wake's drawn out development will conclude in "Spring 2010" -- around the 5-year mark. We've also previously been told that the game has been done since August and is in hibernation being polished over and over again. We've followed up with Remedy and Microsoft to see if either would like to confirm today's reported release date.
and yes Tara, i know this has already been mentioned on the main site :)

Alan Wake will stay up late with post-launch DLC 'episodes'
Remedy's Xbox 360-exclusive Alan Wake, described as "the TV show Lost, as written by Stephen King, and filmed by David Lynch," by Microsoft Entertainment & Devices head Robbie Bach will -- much like Fable II -- be expanded upon via additional downloadable episodes. Bach made the announcement concerning the long-in-development title during the company's CES 2010 keynote this evening, saying, "story-driven like a TV series, Alan Wake will be told in episodes with even more episodes available on Xbox Live after its launch this year."
Let's just hope Remedy isn't taking cues from The Sopranos when deciding how long it will be between the release of the game's episodes.
-
Remedy has dash hopes of an Alan Wake demo in an online Q&A session with fans.
When asked if we were going to see an Alan Wake demo, 'MikaRMD' of Remedy answered "demo before the launch, most likely not."
That doesn't rule out the possibility of a demo after Alan Wake is released, obviously, but we can't help but feel demos become fairly redundant at that point anyway. What we do know is that you won't be able to try before you buy if you're planning on a release day purchase.
-
The first details on Alan Wake Special Edition have been revealed.
The Limited Collector's Edition has been designed to look like a book, reflecting Alan Wake's in-game role as an author.
The collection also contains exclusive in-game commentary and hints by Remedy, a 144-page book called "The Alan Wake Files" that has a short story penned by Wake and FBI dossiers investigating the events of the game, DLC token for the first Alan Wake add-on content pack, "exclusive Xbox disc" with Alan Wake Xbox Live them and avatars items and it will include the soundtrack on a separate disc.
And without any further ado, here's the trailer!

Alan Wake ending is 'a cliffhanger'
Developer Remedy tells CVG that first episode leaves gamers wanting more
Alan Wake developer Remedy has told CVG that the game - a first episode in a planned series - will end on a 'cliffhanger'.
The studio informed us in a new interview that the denouement of the title will "keep the tension high" for gamers - leaving them wanting more.
Writer Sam Lake told CVG: "We really feel there needs to be a satisfying conclusion [to the first game]. But at the same time, it needs to end in kind of a cliffhanger - and we need to open doors for a larger story beyond this one.
He added: "I think a good cliffhanger is always your friend - it keeps the tension high. That episodic structure of Alan Wake means you can always end the episode a couple of minutes or a few seconds before things are resolved [to make people want more]."
However, Lake has also told us that the studio is not yet sure how the full Alan Wake story will end.
You can read our latest Alan Wake preview here, in which CVG likens the title to 'Resident Evil 4 with clever words'. In a good way.
Microsoft has confirmed that the Alan Wake release date will be May 21 in Europe.

I should have finished LP2 by then :)

Alan Wake: several DLC episodes this year, second 'season' dependent on audience
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/alanwake02dam720p-2182010-580px.jpg)
As revealed during this year's Consumer Electronics Show, tormented writer Alan Wake will continue his dimly lit journey in the form of post-launch downloadable episodes. After the internally episodic thriller hits shelves on May 18, Remedy Entertainment will extend it with at least two episodes in 2010. The scope of subsequent episodes and the duration of DLC support will hinge on the audience, of course, but Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrinne envisions a substantial engagement.
"I think it'll depend a lot on the audience, but certainly we want to -- if we're successful -- we want to do a large "Season 2," if you will, at some point," he said in an interview with Joystiq. "Right now, I'm not allowed to say what we're doing exactly this year. But we're going to have more than one episode come out this year."
Once the full game is complete and the team has a chance to gauge acceptance and feedback, Remedy Entertainment will shed some more light on its plans.

Consider Alan Wake's DLC a 'Christmas Special'
Like Remedy Entertainment told us back in January, Alan Wake's poorly lit world will be getting a few DLC "episodes" this year. What we didn't know, however, was how said episodes would fold into the game's narrative arc -- but head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen recently shed some light on them in a recent interview with Edge (via CVG), saying, "We've thought of DLC, which will be more of a bridge between season one and season two, should this first part be a success." Hakkinen here is referring to the first, yet to be released Alan Wake as "season one," banking on the interest in the first game to produce a sequel (or "second season") with DLC episodes set to bridge the narrative between the two "seasons."
And though Hakkinen doesn't exactly illuminate the details of the DLC, he does call it a "Christmas special," adding that it "will give you a different perspective on the stuff you've played in season one."

Alan Wake European Release Date Shifts
Alan Wake's European release date has been changed once again my Microsoft. But don't worry. This time it's good news as the launch has been pushed forward a week, from the previous May 21st date.
Remedy's 'psychological action thriller' will now be out in the UK and Europe on May 14th, which is currently four days before the North American date.
"Fans in the UK have been crying out to get their hands on Alan Wake since it was first announced and we're thrilled to be able to deliver it to them early," said Stephen McGill, Director, Xbox & Entertainment, Microsoft UK.
-
Alan Wake release is put forward, that's like some sick joke :P
-
I have been waiting almost 5 years for this game.... this was supposed to be a launch title if memories serves me well.... just hope it lives up the hype :D
-
... just hope it lives up the hype :D
It won't. I can't.
It will be a good game, but will be smeared by the gaming masses because they allowed they failed to cap their expectations. (Too Human)
-
I think your right Neato, it won't live up to the hype, I actually I won't even be buying this game I have gotten so fed up waiting It will just be a rental for me :(
-
I am looking forward to it.
-
The game does indeed look good though for me it looks less interesting than it did when it was first shown all those years ago, most likely a rental for me too :)
-
In other news: I still don't care about this game.
O0
Because I can.

Alan Wake live-action prequel on Sun
Microsoft has announced that the first two episodes of a six-part live-action prequel to Alan Wake will be distributed through Xbox Live this weekend.
The "Bright Falls" short film series will debut on 25th April for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, with Silver subs able to pick it up a day later and visitors to Xbox.com and BrightFalls.com able to view it on 27th April.
According to Microsoft, the series introduces the spooky town of Bright Falls. "TV fans will find that the series evokes the same ghostly chills as Twin Peaks did when it premiered 20 years ago this month," the platform holder said, somewhat hopefully.
Directed by Philip Van, the Bright Falls series features actors Tom Noonan (Robocop 2! Manhunter!) and veteran TV actor Cooper Huckabee (everything from Little House on the Prairie to Baywatch) among others.
There's a short trailer for it on Xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/splash/a/alanwake/default.htm) (click "Show All" in the bottom-left of the viewer, then it's the third one along in the stupid carousel thing).
New episodes of Bright Falls will arrive weekly, with the final two pitching up on 17th May, the day before the game's North American release. Europe gets the game itself on 14th May because we're special.
Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake is a wicked-sounding psychological thriller where you have to fend off nasty things in the dark using a torch.
Alan Wake reviews are embargoed until 6am BST on 5th May.
-
Interesting.... suppose after waiting for long it's the least they could do to spice up the game
-
i remember alan wake being the reason i bought a 360 instead of ps3, but we've waited so long i refuse to buy it....i mean why did they even show it at E3 all that time ago if it was gonna take 5 fucking years to develop?
-
... why did they even show it at E3 all that time ago if it was gonna take 5 fucking years to develop?
They weren't revealing Alan Wake. They were revealing their 'Window Into The Future' technology.

I have this massive feeling it really won't live up all it's hype so it's sticking as a rental for me :(

Rental for me too, though to be fair I rent pretty much everything these days. :)

Yea', Can be. Especially when your moving through the area and can hear noises but not see anyone. :-[
-
Forget it! :'( I'm not even going to bother renting it :(
-
I'm gonna have to get it, i like a good scary game, might get it this weekend and have the weekend in.
Cue craig saying how he isn't scared of anything (except an army of cats rising up and overthrowing his moggycidal ways)
-
It's really not that scary. If running around in the dark makes a game scary, then I must be missing something. There are bits when you can see the game is trying to creep you out, but I just laughed at the cheesiness. It made me jump once, when something unexpected happened. Who knows, maybe it will get scarier, but I haven't played it since my first time. And maybe, like crak, my scary gene is malfunctioning. ;D

Well just finished alan wake, overall it was pretty good not perfect, was gonna try and get the last 11-12 cheevos for it, but not sure i can be arsed, got pretty bored towards the end and just wanted it to finish, not sure i can get through another 10 hours on nightmare, plus i got LP2 and metro i wanna try and finish before my limited gaming time is eaten by red dead.
The game is a fantasic rental but would not like to pay full price for it, love the combat/torch mechanics and the story is top-notch, also the episodic chapters was fantasic, love the "Previously on Alan Wake" start on each chapter, helps to tell the story and fill some gaps you might miss, but its just too repetive for a single-player game, unlike Uncharted 2 which i could quite happily play again and again and again.
Theres also only about 3-4 different taken which doesnt help with the repetiveness of it, theres only so many taken you can shine torch at/shoot/flashbang before it starts getting tedious.
-
Thanks Maib, you've made up my mind. I was tempted to buy it, but instead i'm gonna get Red Dead. Although I will rent this eventually as i like my survival 'horror' games.
-
... but instead i'm gonna get Red Dead.
A wise choice, sir.

Lost the game sucks, the TV show, whether you like the ending or not, is arguably one of the greatest shows ever created.
-
yeah sure it is :)
-
yeah sure it is :)
It is and i'm not being sarcastic or anything either, the first two or three seasons are as good as anything i've seen on TV in a long time, better than 24, early ER, X-Files, Heroes, pretty much all the big name shows, sure some of it got a bit confusing and polarised opinion like nothing else but even some of the bad episodes and story arcs are far better than most things currently on TV.

That is your opinion.
Clearly the best thing on TV is Doctor Who ;) Just kidding I don't really watch TV I only watch QI and Top Gear. Basically I watch Dave.
Sometimes BBC 3
-
It's an opinion shared by the MILLIONS ............... AND MILLIONS of people that watch it though so it's not just mine :)
Doctor Who sucks far more than any human can possibly fathom, that's also an opinion shared by many.

There's a third DLC episode planned for Alan Wake.
The Signal and The Writer are the two confirmed DLC episodes for Alan Wake, which carry the story on from its cliffhanger ending.
However Matias Myllyrinne, Managing Director of Remedy, also notes "we'll have a further pack coming later on this year."
He doesn't reveal the name of the third episode nor its release date, but given The Signal isn't released until July 27th and is the first DLC episode, expect to be waiting a while.
-
A quick comment about Lost (tv series).
I loved Lost. I watched every episode since the night the first episode aired.
I rewatched previous seasons during the writer strike so I could keep the building mystery fresh in my brain for when the show returned.
I spend a few weeks browsing various internet forums discussing all kinds of details I would have never noticed on my own.
The series was fantastic. ... ... ... .......... however ....
I think the way they chose to end the series is not something isolated that you can say you liked or disliked. The ending spoke of the series as a whole. It refocused the cloud of intent the creators/writers had for the series since day 1 (or at least that's what they say).
The ending basically tells the audience that everything they've loved about the show, everything that made the show the main "watercooler" discussion in everyone's office for the past few years was not important. To me, that's an insult to the rabid Lost fanatics that kept the show alive when the causual viewers lost interest (before regaining interest during the final season).
Personally, I would have preferred an unexplained cliffhanger ending, than the faux-conclusive ending they gave me. You don't want to answer my questions? Fine. But at least have the decency to not make me feel like an idiot for wanting answers.
-
Okay ... maybe not such a "quick" comment. ;)
Once I started writing I couldn't stop.

But at least have the decency to not make me feel like an idiot for wanting answers.

Alan Wake DLC episodes priced at $7 each
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/alan-wake-e3-2010-530px.jpg)
Remedy's imperiled author sim, Alan Wake, will be extended in two downloadable episodes later this year, with the first set to launch on July 27th. Entitled "The Signal," the first add-on is available free to players who purchased the game new. We met up with Remedy's Head of Franchise Development, Oskari Hakkinen, and ascertained that the episode -- which should last around 90 minutes -- will cost 560 MS Points ($7) on the Xbox Live Marketplace to those who purchased the game sans shrinkwrap.
The second downloadable episode, "The Writer," will also cost 560 MS points ($7). According to Hakkinen, the $10 price seen within Alan Wake's DLC menu was meant to be a placeholder.
-
I still need to finish this. :'(
Damn Blur and Dantes Inferno taking up all my time.

A new set of Special 1 achievements are now available for Alan Wake. Pushing the total to 1250G. Must be episodic content coming out Thursday.

Rented this out last week, really enjoyed it too. To me it felt like a mix of Max Payne and Resident Evil. Some of the voice acting was a bit dodgy and the graphics aren't the most spectacular but I found the story pretty entertaining. Personally I like Survival horror games like Resi, Silent Hill etc so I figured this would be right up my street. Definitely worth a rent.
Still can't believe it took them so long to make it though!

gonna have to get this again so i can play the DLC, finish it on Hard and get all the collectables ..... pretty much everything really!

A Depeche Mode track will make it into the next DLC release for Alan Wake.
The Writer, the second DLC for Alan Wake following The Signal, will feature 'The Darkest Star' by the group.
Should fit the vibe of the game quite well but we won't know until Remedy hurries up and actually releases the DLC. Still, it only took them about 20 years to get Alan Wake done. We know they don't want to rush anything.
-
Depeche Mode in another game !!

-
I am buying this game soon
I heard Depeche mode music is heavily featured in the new DLC- thats won me over, huge fan of the mode :D

Alan Wake and its DLC Will Be Delisted May 15th (http://www.xboxachievements.com/news/news-26992-Alan-Wake-and-its-DLC-Will-Be-Delisted-May-15th.html)
That's kinda sudden.... Didn't know the DLC was free either (not sure that was always the case). If anyone hasn't played it, I'd highly recommend it, as well as "American Nightmare" - the whole franchise is a trip-out and from what I remember some really satisfying game mechanics.
