Resident Evil Remastered
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:49:21 AM »
Resident Evil 1 remastered for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360
Coming early 2015. First screenshots released.

The original Resident Evil game is being remastered for release on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Capcom has announced.

Due for a digital-only launch in early 2015, the new port is based on the game's 2002 GameCube "REmake". This new version will include 1080p visuals (720p for last-gen consoles) and 5.1 surround support.

There's no word yet on a European price, but it will cost 3990 yen (about £23) in Japan, where the last-gen console version will arrive before Christmas.

You'll be able to choose between playing the game in its classic 4:3 ratio or in 16:9 widescreen, and have a choice of control styles.

There's a new scrolling camera, too - which appears to be a compromise between a more dynamic camera option and the original's fixed angles.

The classic Resident Evil control scheme remains for purists, along with a more modern style for moving characters more easily - in the direction of the analogue stick.

A grainy image first appeared online this morning (via Famitsu), showing the game's iconic mansion in its GameCube redesign.

Resident Evil first released in 1996 for the original PlayStation, but was then re-made from the ground up for GameCube in 2002, a version of which was later ported to Wii.

Ironically, there's no Wii U version of the port planned, despite the REmake originally being a Nintendo exclusive.

Below is a video of producers Tetsuya Kitabayashi and Yoshiaki Hirabyashi discussing the game.

Never played the GameCube Remake (and admittedly hadn't picked up the series since RE3), but having recently played through Code Veronica reminded me of how great the series was in that campy/creepy sort of way. But those controls and camera...so clunky by today's standards. Interested to see how the varied options are offered up in this Remastered Version.

The Gamecube remake was superb, Resident Evil Zero was quality too, both games looked amazing back then, probably hold up quite well now too, hopefully remaking this game might tempt Capcom into going back to their roots for Resi 7, it needs to be about the horror again.

Yeah, the HD version of Code Veronica was good at maintaining some of those horror elements but visually it was still lacking. My guess is that they'll use the response to this Remastered version to gauge the direction RE7 will go in.
