Post all the new movie news, pics, posters, teasers etc. here
easier than creating a new thread for each topic, which i'm usually guilty of  :)

here's a few from the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake
Freddy will be played by Jackie Earle Haley who was excellent as Rorschach in Watchmen

and here's the original Freddy just for good measure  :)

Pirates 4 Shooting Next Spring

Drink up, me hearties, yo ho. Pirates of the Caribbean 4 will go before the cameras early-ish next year, according to a chat Coming Soon had with Disney's Head of Production Oren Aviv at Comic Con.

The Hollywood Reporter ran a story a couple of days ago suggesting that Johnny Depp would be kicking his heels for the immediate future, with none of his pencilled-in projects going anywhere soon. Or as they put it, he was facing "a landscape devoid of go pictures".

But Aviv seems confident that Depp won't be lounging around in his pants for too long. "We're going to shoot Pirates 4 in April and May of next year," he said, and went on to confirm that it will be the first of a hoped-for new trilogy, but that it will be filmed alone, unlike the back-to-back second and third instalments.

Intriguingly however, it does seem that Part 4 will feel like the start of a genuinely new series, since Aviv revealed the intention is very much to pare the franchise back: "It's important to me to scale it down, because we can't get bigger. [The previous films] got very complicated. I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its essence: just characters. It's important to get the story right."

No director is confirmed yet, so it won't necessarily be Gore Verbinski this time, and there will be no Orlando or Kiera. A relaunch on a smaller scale concentrating solely on Cap'n Jack is obviously a smart move for a franchise that was falling over its own feet by part 3, although Aviv wouldn't be drawn on whether we can expect substantial Sparrow back-story.

Resident Evil:Afterlife Is First Of New Planned Trilogy

Paul W.S. Anderson tells Shock Till You Drop that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be his 4th RE film, but not a sequel. Instead the series will be revamped and start as a whole new trilogy. Afterlife will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will see the return of old characters and new ones. The film will also be joining that whole 3D fad that decided to rear its head up from the 70's.

"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films, "he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Our guess is that Paul will take the Fast And Furious approach; by having a film that ignores previous events and rewrites the series history. This is good news for die hard Resident Evil fans. Maybe, just maybe we can have a RE film that doesn't stray so far from the source material. We're looking at you Extinction.

Robert Downey Jr Joins Due Date

Robert Downey Jr. has signed up for the Todd Phillips comedy Due Date, which already stars Zack Galifianakis. Yes, the hottest comedy star of last summer (in Tropic Thunder) is joining the hottest comedy star of this summer (in The Hangover) for what we're guessing could be a pretty hot comedy as early as next summer.

Due to shoot this September in Atlanta, Arizona and LA, the film sees Downey Jr. cast as a father-to-be who's racing to get home for the birth of his child, along with Galifianakis' mismatched travelling companion. Phillips describes it as a "buddy comedy without the buddies", so think Planes, Trains and Automobiles with birth instead of Thanksgiving at the end of it.

The script was written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, and revised by Scrabble-winning scribe Adam Sztykiel.

DJ Caruso Heading For Dead Space

DJ Caruso, director of Disturbia and Eagle Eye (and currently reported to be working on Y: The Last Man) has signed on to direct a movie of the EA sci-fi zombie horror videogame Dead Space, according to Variety.

Dead Space takes place on a mining ship infested by reanimated human corpses called Necromorphs. It's a third-person shooter using that over-the-shoulder perspective seen in the likes of Resident Evil 4 and 5 and Gears of War. Its Alien-like plot hook is that the zombifications began when something was brought back to the ship from an off-limits planet.

But the game is much more like Paul WS Anderson's Event Horizon, with the artefact triggering violent hysteria among the ship's crew, and the player piecing this back-story together through the discovery of ship logs and audio recordings.

An animated prequel to the game, Dead Space: Downfall, was released to DVD last year. A game sequel, Dead Space: Extraction, is in development.

The game itself is decent enough, but it's very obviously a tribute to the films mentioned above, plus any number of other sci-fi and horror sources, filmic and literary. The player's character is called Isaac Clarke. From Asimov and Arthur C. Do you see? Translating it from a game back to a single film is going to be a tricky prospect if Caruso doesn't want it to seem completely derivative.

Zack Galifianakis

I went to a Holloween party last year, but was too lazy to prepare a costume.  When I walked in the door, people spent several minutes trying to guess "who I was".

I said ... "Zack Galifianakis".  Fortunately, I was going throug a beard-phase at the time.  That, and all white guys do look alike.  :D

Pirates of the Caribbean 4, the inevitably-mooted sequel to the first three films, has been on something of a hiatus since director Gore Verbinski bowed out in April in favour of Bioshock. But now it may be on again, with Variety reporting rumours that Chicago's Rob Marshall is close to signing on to direct.

Marshall is, of course, currently finishing work on his mega-musical Nine (not to be confused with 9 or District 9) starring a cast entirely comprised of Oscar winners/nominees and her from the Black Eyed Peas. But this could be next for him, since Disney is anxious to get things underway before Depp heads off to film The Lone Ranger, another film with Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Without Depp, of course, there's no Pirates (or no Pirates we want to see, at any rate). No other cast are confirmed yet, but we're guessing we've seen the last of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, judging by the last film's coda. So perhaps this will be the sequel we wanted all along: one that focuses on Jack Sparrow being himself. If they decide to dispense with plot and just show him getting drunk in a bar for two hours, we're there with bells on.

Casting's apparently begun for new characters for the series, and if Marshall can control his urge to cue everyone for spontaneous tap numbers (or, heck, even if he can't) this could be a good choice. So what do you think? Can the man who made Chicago make a good Pirates movie? And bear in mind: before Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Gore Verbinski made The Weather Man and The Ring, so past form is no real guide here.

Ridley Scott Will Direct Alien 5

Variety's story is more concerned that the screenplay is being written by Jon Spaihts, but the headline and the one-line explanation are enough to make us run around the room with glee: Ridley Scott is now attached to Alien 5 as director.

Commercials director Carl Erik Rinsch was originally reported to be the Scott Brothers' choice to helm, with their Scott Free Productions, well, producing. But there's no mention of Rinsch this morning. Were Fox unconvinced? Or did Ridley start getting more interested the more involved he became?

Whatever the circumstances, what does seem to be officially confirmed now (rather than just rumoured and hoped for) is that the film is a prequel to the 1979 original, presumably dealing with the events that led the elephant-faced Space Jockey and his croissant-shaped ship to crash on Giger World.

Spaihts' pitch to Fox and Scott Free was apparently enthusiastically received. Well clearly, since he got the job.  We'd hope Fox and the Scotts reaction wasn't "meh, that'll do". Prolifically busy all of a sudden, Spaihts is also involved with Shadow 19, Passengers,The Darkest Hour, Children of Mars, and George and the Dragon. But the Alien prequel will be his highest profile gig yet.

Hard to imagine a higher, really...
