The Joker is a lunatic after all, he should atleast look like a lunatic, not get up in the morning and make sure his shoes don't clash with his bow tie.

Speaking from experience  ;) But your right
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

Eidos has revealed a pretty cool pre-order incentive whereby pre-ordering Batman: Arkham Asylum from UK retailer Game gives you an exclusive combat challenge map.

If you order from any high street branch or online you'll get access to the Villains Challenge Map, "a unique combat Challenge Map playable within the game where Batman must descend into the depths of his own nightmares and come face-to-face with The Scarecrow and his army of skeletons," reads Eidos sheet of facts.

Just to reiterate: The Villains Challenge Map is available "in the UK only from Game and can be downloaded when Batman: Arkham Asylum ships on August 28.

Eidos has announced that a demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum will be hitting Xbox Live on Friday.

Apparently it shows Bats and the Commissioner taking the Joker into custody at the beginning of the game. You get to beat people up, stalk people, and do some light investigating, says the press release, which we haven't quoted here because it's full of irritating uses of (tm) and ALL CAPITALS descriptions.

There's also some character bios and hints at the other people you'll meet. We'd tell you because we've been reviewing it, but there's an embargo. We'll be able to speak on the 21st August, and the game's out on the 28th. Spoiler: you'll probably want to buy it.

Releasing a public demo before the game releases shows a helluvalot of confidence.

The hype of the game already sold it.  Releasing a demo is just bragging.   ;)

6 Ways Batman: Arkham Asylum Could Impact Superhero Games

Batman ? has become a prime commodity since the success of films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Hoping to capitalize on that success, DC Comics and parent company Warner Brothers are looking to give Batman a proper re-entrance into the video game world. Can Batman: Arkham Asylum help make The Dark Knight a top video game icon and help breathe life into other franchises? Only time will tell.

Story

Batman: Arkham Asylum's story is written by Paul Dini who also was a writer on the beloved 90s cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series. This fact alone will excite many fans, especially the now older teens who grew up watching the show. The story is not based on any particular comic book, but Dini draws its elements from the comics and not other source material. Although, the plot seems like it could have just started off where The Dark Knight movie left off.

The actual story is pretty easy to grasp and you will get the feeling you're playing through a story as the game progresses.

Here's a quick plot summary:

The Joker is captured and Batman is escorting him to Arkham. However, little does Batman know he's walking right into a trap. The Joker, with the help of his right-hand gal, Harley Quinn, takes control of the asylum and daring Batman to try and stop him.

Overall, bringing on Dini and letting him unleash his knowledge of Batman into the video game world is what will ultimately separate Batman: Arkham Asylum from other generic superhero games. There are literally hundreds of stories waiting to be explored by talented writers with ties to tons of popular superhero characters.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Batman: Arkham Asylum is pretty down-to-earth. Nothing outrageous or difficult to master, but for some it may take a few mistakes to get a groove. The developers wanted you to feel like Batman in every situation. Fighting Joker's low-level minions will be a breeze filled with lightning fast punches, kicks, and counter moves being thrown with just the press of a few buttons. In these little skirmishes, Batman's hand-to-hand combat abilities and the power he holds becomes obvious.

In stealth-based scenarios, you will be rewarded for tracking multiple enemies and picking your battles. The obvious way may not always be the right way. You really have to dissect each situation in order to determine your best move.

You are not invincible in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Not watching certain enemies could result in a death that could have easily been prevented. This is especially true when dealing with armed enemies that are easily ticked off by your mistakes.

Overall, the gameplay is nothing revolutionary, but nevertheless feels pretty smooth and satisfying.

Quality Assurance

The developers of Batman: Arkham Asylum really took the development of this game seriously. Because many of the superhero games from recent years have been labeled jokes and written off as just marketing ploys to play alongside big movie premieres, this new Batman game is of big interest to everyone. Rocksteady is looking to take the Batman we all know and love and launch him into the next generation he belongs in.

Using the power of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 (used to create blockbusters like Bioshock, Gears of War, and Mass Effect), Rocksteady has created Arkham Asylum like you will never see it in a movie or in a comic book. No detail has been spared from the array of different environments and villains you will encounter in Arkham Asylum.

Voices

Along with writer Paul Dini, many of the voice actors from Batman: The Animated Series have returned to their original roles in Arkham Asylum.

And they are:

- Kevin Conroy as Batman

- Mark Hamill as The Joker

- Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn

These incredible voice actors help bring in those familiar with the animated series and set the tone for the game. If they had not been included, the game would have been very disappointing.

I also love the fact that I heard one of my favorite voice actors, Steven Blum play the role of a guard in the first stage of the game. He's one of the most prolific American voice actors, known for his huge list of roles in anime and video games.

Marketing

Batman: Arkham Asylum is being pushed from all directions in the gaming world. Since E3 there has been a consistent stream of media hype, including plenty of teaser trailers and gameplays. These have all been covered by pretty much every online gaming publication and been raved about in comment boards across the web. And if you've yet to see an advert or online commercial yet, you're not looking hard enough!

The game will have exclusive content marketed at the PS3 crowd. Those purchasing the title for the PS3 will receive the ability to unlock The Joker in the challenge gametype. This feature will not be available ever on the 360 or PC version. There have been some great TV spots for this particular exclusive that would catch anyone's eye.

Since The Dark Knight, The Joker is a highly recognized character and giving PS3 users a much needed exclusive is a great move by the publisher.

Other exclusive offers include one from none other than GameStop. This one is for an exclusive challenge map called "Dem Bones" where Batman is put under the influence of Scarecrow's hallucinogenic toxin that causes him to see all his enemies as skeletons. Not as cool as The Joker exclusive for PS3, but for some hardcore fans, it may be an extra selling point.

There hasn't been a superhero game with this much backing behind it in a while.

Overall, despite the controversy over fixed review scores, Batman: Arkham Asylum looks prime for release!

Taking Chances

DC Comics and Warner Brothers are taking a big leap of faith with Batman: Arkham Asylum. They are banking that the renewed interest in Batman will allow them to let The Dark Knight make a big splash in the video game world the same way he did the movie world.

If successful, it could sky-rocket the production of superhero/comic book character games and give plenty of new and interesting stories a chance in a video game world all too dominated by constant and unoriginal sequels.

The Batman demo is amazing, it gives you everything the games about, in a glorious 5 minute bite.

Starts with some solid fighting, then some detective style work, then some stealth and then teases you with a boss.

I must say i was impressed by the polish and feel to the game, along with the story and the excellent voice acting. For once a well established IP (AvP too) is getting some love and attention.

A brief look at some reviews for Arkham Asylum

Game Informer (95/100): "Batman: Arkham Asylum is this year's BioShock, not just from the connection established with the world, but from its ability to innovate where new ideas are needed, and moreover, deliver an adventure unlike any other.

Strategy Informer (95/100): "A full repertoire of moves makes playing as Batman an experience that's not only uniquely satisfying, but also incredibly empowering - exactly as it should be. The Dark Knight is a superhero, and in Arkham Asylum, he actually feels like one, stalking enemies with a predatory prowess befitting of the iconic character."

Play.tm (94/100): "So, is Arkham Asylum finally the game that Batman deserves then? Yes. Yes it is. And a whole lot more besides. ... It is to games what Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are to movies - Batman: Arkham Asylum is without doubt the most definitive videogame realisation of the character yet. It's also unreservedly brilliant to boot."

Eurogamer (90/100): "Most of the gameplay concerns are minor when taken in the context of how much Arkham Asylum gets so gloriously right. Rarely does a game do a character justice in such a satisfying way. Arkham Asylum finds room for every major aspect of Batman's enduring appeal, and it does so in a game compelling enough to work even without its masked star."

Just bought 360 Gamer, it got 8/10 (due to a poor last level).
