F1 2010 due out in September
Codemasters has announced plans to release F1 2010 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this September.
The British publisher has also released the first two screenshots of F1 2010 in action.
F1 2010 promises to include all the official teams, drivers and circuits, including the returning Michael Schumacher and the new Korean International Circuit.
Game modes include an "extensive, innovative" Career mode, plus Grand Prix, Championship and Time Trial.
Naturally there will be competitive multiplayer as well.
As you might imagine, developer Codemasters Studios Birmingham is using Codies' fabulous EGO engine (DiRT 2, GRID).

We're promised a "highly advanced" damage model, dynamic weather and changes to "accurately recreate the unique aerodynamics and handling of 200MPH+ Formula One cars".
Codies also boasts of "unprecedented access" to teams and drivers, but then everyone says that. I had unprecedented access to a sandwich earlier.
We're all fairly pumped about this one though, especially after Codies did such a reasonable job of F1 2009 on Wii. Expect proper impressions of F1 2010 very soon.

F1 2010's career mode detailed
Codemasters has lifted the lid on its next Formula 1 game, F1 2010, at a press event in London, revealing an extensive career mode that will simulate the drivers' life in the paddock as well as on the track.
F1 2010 will allow players to interact with their agent, team-mate, engineer and the media as they build a career for themselves. You'll start in a lower or middle-tier team aiming to beat your team-mate and championship rivals, in order to increase your standing and negotiate new contracts over several seasons.
As your rank improves, the F1 circus in the paddock will respond differently to you, with media showing interest according to your standing and asking questions relevant to your performance. Finish in the top three in a race and you'll be able to join in the post-race press conference for TV.
The game also features an upgrade system that improves and changes your car according to the performance of you and your team-mate and the amount of testing you do, while doing well in a season will feed into off-season research and development. You can get closely involved in the setup of your car or give broader instructions to your engineer for how you want it to drive.
On track, Codemasters is aiming for handling that's authentic without being too difficult for average players, and predictable enough that players can focus on putting in the consistent lap times that are all-important in Formula 1. It's putting an equal emphasis on credible and dynamic AI opponents as it is the handling model, however.
Keeping race strategy in mind will be important, especially managing tyres, which will blister, marble and puncture. Players will also be able to adjust wing angles angles and engine performance on the fly.
There will be dynamic weather conditions and the track surface will evolve from session to session and lap to lap, as drivers lay down rubber to increase grip, leave dangerous tyre "marbles", and actively dry wet tracks with their tyres.
F1 2010 is due for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in September.
New trailer with a classic from Ian Brown thrown in for good measure
looks good but i will wait for the reviews i think
No F1 2010 demo, says Codemasters
Codemasters has confirmed there will be no playable demo for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 racer F1 2010.
The news comes via the Codemasters forum. Moderator SynGamer quotes community manager Ian Webster as saying, "Due to the nature of the game, and its layers of licensed content, it will not be possible to make a cut-down, limited content sample that would serve as a demo for F1 in 2010 within our production deadlines."
I still get the feeling that this game is gonna be wank. I hope i am wrong :-\

It's got F1 in the title, it's already off to a bad start.
just like GRiD and Dirt are wank .... oh wait, no they're not. Tis gonna be a proper F1 game if made by Codemasters.

No F1 2010 demo, says Codemasters
I watched a great discussion with the EEDAR group (Electronic Entertainment Research and Design) about the business of game demos. Apparently demos are a huge waste of everone's time, including us customers.
Not always, but often a great game demo = crappy game that the developer gave up on and decided to direct remaining time & resources to hyping the demo. The best game developers spend ALL of their available resources on polishing the actual retail release. Not always, but often.
Demos are rarely an accurate representation of its full retail counterpart. To be honest, I rarely even play game demos. The information I obtain from demos I can usually get from gameplay videos and developer diaries.
I like demo's it helps me decide if i am going to enjoy the game or not.

I used to play a lot of demos on the old xbox and PS1/2 and on the 360 before I had Live, think i've only played about 5 or 6 demos since I got Xbox Live, which is odd as I don't have to buy an overpriced magazine to get them now.
I hope they don't make it too realistic, otherwise it'll just be driving around 19 circuits without being able to overtake!!!
As for Demos, look at Aliens Vs Predator, the demo was multiplayer only and was sh*t, yet the single player version of the game is, in my opinion, very atmospheric and a reasonable game... but the multiplayer is still sh*t!
I didn't like the look of Split/Second. I played the demo and really enjoyed it though and now i want the game ...
not that i'll pay for it, but i don't often buy games that aren't ridiculously underpriced. When that time comes, HAHA Split/Second is mine.
The moral, maybe demos work and maybe companies who do 'research' are ridiculous
I've seen Split/Second for around £25, £22 being the lowest.
the problem i had with the old f1 games is i would set the laps to half the real amount (40-50 laps) and sometimes i would get to say lap 41 and my car would fail. Realistic yes but i broke a few pads because of this. :D

The original PS1 F1 game was bad on full laps because you'd end up lapping the AI cars about 10/15 times, way too easy, I remember a dodgy glitch where the AI cars would pit every other lap, don't think i've bothered with an F1 game since F1 '97, though that could be to do with the fact that the actual sport is so god damn awful.

F1 2010 will make you 'think like an F1 driver'
Senior producer Paul Jeal says "It's not Wipeout"...
From what we know about F1 2010 already it sounds like Codemasters is aiming to make the most realistic racer to date.
With things like full damage, weather effects and dynamically changing track surfaces all present it sounds like there's going to be a lot to consider this year.
And consider it you must, said F1 2010 senior producer Paul Jeal:
"It's not Wipeout. We don't want players burning around at a thousand miles an hour all the time."
"We want them them to think like an F1 driver - always considering the tyre wear, the track conditions, the best place to overtake."
Take that dastardly rain for example:
"Teams such as McLaren can't fully exploit their straight line speed advantage."
"So this is your opportunity to climb a few places up the grid and make a name for yourself," explains Jeal.
OPM saw fit to award F1 2010 a very nice 9 out of 10 in its world exclusive review (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=262352).

F1 2010 review - another 90% zooms in
This time GamesMaster heaps praise on Codemasters racer
So, F1 2010 is pretty good, then. After it rocked Official PlayStation Magazine's socks to the point of a 9/10 review, GamesMaster has now given its verdict - and it's more good news for Codemasters.
In a praise-filled two-page evaluation - complete with splendid 90% score - GM heaps particular applause on F1 2010's career mode, dynamic weather effects and 'hardcore options', which include the possibility to tackle 70-lap races.
GM writes: 'Attending press conferences and interviews, exploring the paddock area and in-team competition between drivers makes [F1 2010] one of the first F1 games to make players feel like a driver rather than a car.'
The mag adds that it's 'delighted' with the officially licensed game's handling, which is says offers a 'huge amount of precision'.
A minor gripe is raised due to the lack of safety cars - and that it's not the most accessible game on four wheels.
But as writer Shaun Curnow says of people that don't understand the intricacies of F1: 'This game isn't for those people.' Quite.
Want even more praise? You goddit.
'F1 2010 delivers the finest, most all encompassing F1 racer on console,' GM concludes.
A must buy for F1 fans, it seems - so long as they're ready to give it the dedication it deserves.
F1 2010 is released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the UK on September 24.
FUEL aside, which still has it's charm and really only failed in not being able to fill it's huge world, can Codemasters do no wrong with the racing genre?

F1 2010 Codies' "biggest" release ever
British publisher Codemasters reckons F1 2010 will be the biggest release in the company's history.
F1 2010, due out on PC (digital download only unless you pre-order), PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, was developed by Codemasters' Birmingham studio using the EGO game technology platform – the same used for the creation of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 and Race Driver: GRID.
"F1 2010... is set to be a two million unit worldwide launch when it races off the starting grid this week," reads a press release sent out today.
"Representing Codemasters' biggest release to date, F1 2010 is now shipping to retail stores in North America and will release across mainland Europe and PAL territories on Thursday 23rd September with a UK street date on Friday 24th September."
Will buy this tomorrow if I have enough cash & credit left over after I've bought Dead Rising 2.

I just been reading the manual and i must say the online modes look amazing! You gain online xp too which contributes to online rank. You earn xp in qualifying sessions by completing flying laps or finishing in the top 3, or in races by finishing in the top ten, completing a lap without incident and per lap finished if you finish the race. If you don't finish the race, or are disqualified all xp earned is declared void. Really looking forward to playing this online as well as career mode now. :)
kid an christmas come to mind- never seen him so excited
Oh, why did the doctor only sign me off until today :( Wanna play!!!
Attacking pre-owned market is futile - F1 dev
Make games worth keeping says F1 lead designer
There's no point in trying to destroy the pre-owned market, instead developers need to make games worth holding on to.
That's the opinion of F1 2010 lead designer Stuart Hood. Talking to CVG, Hood said it was a developer's job to make a game entertaining in the long run.
"I think the pre-owned market is maybe denting the tail of a title," he said.
"People who didn't plug into the hype or didn't follow what was going on, when they are looking for the game and they find a pre-owned one, they'll probably go for the pre-owned. Let's face it we're not making any money from that."
Hood pointed out that games were getting more and more expensive to make but the onus is on the developer to create keepers rather than restrict re-sale.
"I don't think it's enough for developers to go round whinging about cutting that market up because you get rid of a game when you're tired of it or you want to move on to something else."
"So first and foremost it should be our attempt to get the game more entertaining over the long-term."
Dead Space 2 producer Steve Papoutsis appears to agree with Hood's outlook, he hopes Dead Space 2's multiplayer will stop gamers from trading in altogether.
Totally agree with that, I have a few games that i've completed ages ago but would never dream of trading in just because I enjoyed playing them so much (Soul Calibur IV, Fallout 3, Lego Star Wars for example). Hopefully F1 will be another one then :)

I am sure it will, you can choose how many years your career is gonna be and the online modes looks amazing, so plenty of reasons to keep playing!
I gave F1 2010 a blast for about an hour and a half last night, and I wasn't disappointed. It looks amazing and feels very realistic. I tried time trial and a three lap race playing as jano trulli, and played as always with the realistic cockpit view. The feeling of speed was quite intense and I found my head cocking to one side when I was blasting around corners, something I haven't done on a racer for years. The race itself was great fun and even though I had some of the assists (but not all of them) like traction control turned on and the AI difficulty was only at medium it was still very difficult, but not frustratingly so and it's still definitely something that anyone should be able to get good at with plenty of practice meaning the game so far seems to be fairly easy to play but quite hard to master, which is the perfect way to be in racing games. The feeling of joy you get when you overtake someone is incomparable as you have to battle for every overtake with drivers in front trying to block you off at every opportunity. There are a wealth of options to make the game as difficult/realistic as you want so everyone will be able to adjust the game to suit them perfectly. The time trials are very addictive as there are two leaderboards for each track (one for dry and one for wet) and even though it was the day before release there were still just under 3000 people with posted times on the Bahrain track, and I kept saying to myself 'just one more lap', eventually managing to climb to 1,300 and something on the board which I am proud of considering I didn't play for long. I can't wait to get stuck in to career mode and online play now, and I imagine me and Marty are gonna have tons of fun with it. Expect a full review from me in around a weeks time, but so far I couldn't be happier with my purchase!
Nice mini review there mate, looking forward to driving a Red Bull and giving McLaren the pasting they deserve sometime soon. :)

Just finished my first career race. Qualifyed 22nd and came 17th. Fucking cunts put me back to 24th though as they gave me two 10 second penalties for knobheads driving into the back of my car. >:(
Lol, just like real F1 then, especially the lower teams, i am sure you will get better as the season go's on and then move up to a better team, that's what it's all about after all!

Just finished work and got back from town with both Dead Rising 2, & F1 2010, plus £13 left on my Gamestation trade in card. Gotta love the fact they give you an additional £5 off a new release if you trade in any game.
Gonna have a blast on F1 once I've installed it to the HDD. Gonna try and ram that German c*nt off the track. :-[
Me and Marty are playing for a couple of hours tonight (early evening) if ya fancy joining us. We may also play tomorrow night. I might install it to the HDD myself, but having said that I did that with gears 2 and it kept freezing so I am a bit cautious about doing that now!
Should be online in the early evening. If I am, just drop us a message and I'll come and join.
As soon as i see you on your getting an invite, like it or not! ;D

Good man ;D
So i had a few races today and to me it's basically GRID with F1 cars. GRID is one of my all time fave games on the 360 so no bad thing. Anyway, picture this- i was racing around hockenhiem and the yellow flags are out warning me of a hazard in front. I turn the corner and there he is, the soft c*nt with his mercedes sideways across the track :D and it says live out your F1 dream on the box- thank you codemasters :-*

Nice, please say he was dead. ;D
well his car was definitely dead!
I completed my first career race last night, i opted for team lotus with a short race weekend and i played on medium with traction control on medium and fuel and tyre wear switched on with damage on cosmetic only. I managed to qualify in 20th, but got knocked back to last on the grid as i received a 5 place penalty for causing a collision when exiting the pit lane during the practice session. I chose to have a 30% race (15 laps) and although i managed to climb as high as 19th i skidded off the track on a tricky bend when i clipped the curb too much and ended up finishing in last place. Gutted, but i still really enjoyed it and i think i'm gonna be playing a hell of a lot of this game over the next few weeks! I'm watching the singapore night race qualifying on tv as i type, thought i might get some tips! ;D
I had 3 races in career this morning, (same settings as D-Fuzz) and qualified 14th, 11th and 15th, but ended up finishing last in all 3 races. I had 3 ten second penalties in the second race! I seem to be fine when there are no cars around, just really suck when I'm in traffic!!!

i panic as soon as there is an overtaking opportunity, or if there is a car close behind me. My palms go all sweaty and i start breathing faster, then i usually make a mistake. I'm sure we will get better though :)
Apologies for not playing last night fellas, connection was been a biatch.
I finished 8th in my 2nd career race, but ended up been 24th after getting a 10 second penalty. :(
Wooaah!
This game is even better online!!
Gonna play this way more than i thought i would.
It's brilliant. I've just been playing around with it this morning, so far I've managed to flip a Force India up in to the air and make it lose all of it's wheels (one of 6 cars I maanged to "remove" from the race); almost ran out of petrol whilst trying to burn my tyres out and ran over the lollipop man whilst trying to do a manual pitstop... fucking brilliant :D
BTW, I worked out why my save game got corrupted, heads up for anyone playing career, save anyone else losing one (3rd post on the thread below)...

Hamilton going off is always funny, Kubica is having a stormer though. :)
Well, from being extremely frustrated this morning I had a play around with the car setups and have finally managed to finish a career race in the points (although I then ended up last in my next race) and then finally won a stand alone grand prix which unlocked 90G :) I can at least now drive round two of the circuits (Bahrain and Monza) without spinning off at almost every corner :)
I am a lot better on the game now too marty, haven't finished in the points yet but i am in a lotus so at least it's fairly realistic, my last three career races i qualified in 24th, 18th, and 23rd and finished in 20th, 14th, and 21st respectively. The main thing is that i finished each of those races ahead of my team mate Trulli, which means my rep has gone up and the team are fairly happy with me. I am still only using the quick engineer set ups though, if i could be bothered to mess with the car i would probably do even better.
I'd definitely recommend playing about with the settings, I can win on Monza without any problems at all now. Shame it took me about 4-5 hours to get it right, I can't be arsed to do that on every course!

i may have a play around with the set ups at some point
If you are struggling a little bit with F1 2010 or a certain track and you use one of the in car views then if you haven't already sign up to the official F1 website - http://www.formula1.com/
If you click on 'video' then 'onboard' you can view the onboard camera for some of the fastest lap times set this year on each track, and it helps you to learn the tracks and were the best braking points and lines are, even if you play with the racing line on full like me you should still find it invaluable as you can learn which corners you can brake late on. I was struggling with my times on monaco but after viewing the onboard camera lap of the real track a few times i managed to shave 5 seconds off of my time as i realised i could go a lot faster on a few corners/chicanes that i was being overly cautious on. It really is helpful so i recommend you give it a try.
:)
Setting some stonking lap time in time trial now i have played with the set ups. Apparently you can take another 2 seconds off with a wheel which explains why some guys are so fast in multiplayer
I tried using my wheel, but found it impossible... guess I'm just crap! :(
Can't wait to try my innovative driving style on this game. ;D

FIXED
F1 driver uses videogame for practice
Formula 1 racing driver Tonio Liuzzi has revealed that he's planning on using F1 2010 to get a bit of extra race practice.
Liuzzi, who drives for Force India F1 Team, wrote on his ESPN blog (http://en.espnf1.com/forceindia/motorsport/story/30971.html), "This week I'm going to be back in the factory so that I can do a day in the simulator to get to know the Korean circuit.
"It'll be the first feeling I get for the new circuit, but I'm also planning to buy the new F1 2010 computer game to get a bit more practice in."
Whatever next? David James picking up a copy of FIFA to brush up on his goalkeeping skills? Oh, wait (http://www.sportingo.com/all-sports/a7124_david-james-liverpool-excuse-sam).
Liuzzi's season could do with a bit of jump-start, so maybe Codemasters' sim is the ticket. He currently sits at 15th in the 2010 table and finished 22nd last year. His best finish was sixth at the 2007 Chinese Grand Prix.
F1 2010 clocked an impressive 8/10 (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-17-f1-2010-review) when Eurogamer's Joao Diniz Sanches got behind the wheel earlier this year. It's available now on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
They had Woods 11 pods at the Ryder Cup, can only be good for the world of gaming.... well atleast sports sims, until they can get mass murderers unofficially endorsing GTA5 ofcourse ;)
I mentioned a lot of the bugs and glitches that shipped with this game but good news today as Codemasters commmunity manager 'Helios' posted a list of fixes and gameplay improvements that will be included in the upcoming patch after receiving feedback from the gamers themselves. Apparently this list isn't exhaustive and just a list of the key fixes and improvements.
Here it is -
. Corrupt Save Games - We have identified an over-zealous anti-cheating check that manifested as falsely identified corrupt saves, specifically the ones relating to practice and R&D upgrades, the save-games should now load without issue. However if any of you are experiencing corrupt saves outside of this then please continue to send your PS3 save game files to us (Xbox360 & PC saves aren't of any use to us) and we can test these against the latest patch to see whether all instances of this issue have now been fixed
2. AI not pitting in dry races where a mandatory pit stop was required (20% or more) – This has been fixed.
3. Player held in pit-stop too long – We've improved exit logic so that it isn't too cautious in holding players during a pit-stop.
4. Puncture frequency reduced – The likelihood of players suffering punctures has been reduced.
5. Pit-stop lock-ups - Fixed several instances which caused the pit crew to lock-up and not be able to service the cars.
6. Automatically updating race strategy – Selecting prime tyres from the tyre menu (over default option) now updates the strategy so that the pit-crew assign options during the pit stop as opposed to re-attaching another set of primes (in a dry race of 20% or more).
7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.
In addition to these fixes we've also made improvements to the game based on your forum feedback:-
1. OSD changes – showing split times rather than gap to leader – We've changed how the OSD timing information functions so that split times are now displayed on the OSD, showing race time and race time differences to the other cars – I.e. how far ahead/behind are at a sector boundary.
2. AI affected more by damage received – Damage sustained by an AI's car will have a greater effect their handling characteristics, effectively slowing damaged AI down more. AI cars that cannot maintain a racing speed will naturally yield to faster cars & come into the pits for repairs. As before, If they receive too much damage, they will retire from the race.
3. AI yielding to other cars when not on flying lap in qualifying - Improved AI behaviour to move off the racing line or out of the player's way when the player is on a flying lap.
4. Increased wheel support – Increased wheel support and force feedback tweaks (where applicable) for the following wheels; Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback (officially supported), Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience (officially supported), Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Pro Clutch (not officially supported but will work), Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S & GT3 RS2 (both officially supported).
5. Wet weather improvements - Rebalanced graphical and handling effect of cars driving on a wet track - the level of wetness has been increased as well as tyre trails being made more prominent.
6. Improved Damage Modelling – Tweaks to the damage system so that more damage is visible / received during lesser impacts.
7. Next lap invalidated time trial logic - In time trial the next lap is no longer invalidated for any offence committed in the 3rd sector. It is calculated per track and is predominantly based on the final corner.
8. AI: Driver Behaviours - Addressed some issues in driver behaviour balancing that were causing occasionally unrealistic finishing positions.
Best news ever it's really made my week, i enjoy the game as it is but once the patch comes out in 3 or four weeks time F1 2010 will go from being a good game to a bloody great one! :)
Codies forum writes:
Update: The team have been hard at work and as a result we have now completed all internal testing on the patch.
The patch is now in submission with Microsoft and Sony for all 3 platforms, and once this process has been successfully completed the patch will be released, ready for you to download. Keep an eye out on the forums, facebook, and twitter, as we'll let you know as soon as it's ready to download.
According to Codemasters the patch is now available for the Xbox360... YAY ;D
