The title is due out this Fall for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. Over 40 hip hop songs will be included at release, including tunes by the likes of Lil' Wayne, Kanye West and 50 Cent. One of the game's main selling points is a feature where players can record their own freestyle videos they star in and then upload those to share on the web.

The songs announced so far are:

2 Pac -- I Get Around
50 Cent -- I Get Money
Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg == Nuthin' But a "G" Thang
Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx --Gold Digger
Lil' Wayne -- A Milli
Notorius B.I.G. -- Juicy
Slick Rick -- Children's Story
T.I. featuring Rihanna -- Live Your Life
Wu Tang Clan -- C.R.E.A.M.
Young Jeezy featuring Kanye West -- Put On

"Hip Hop is a global phenomenon that has permeated pop culture to become the most important youth movement of our generation. We are proud to deliver the first authentic Hip Hop music experience to gamers that will undoubtedly change the way music games are played," stated Kevin Liles, President and CEO of Def Jam Enterprises. "It is an incredible opportunity to work with 4mm Games and Terminal Reality in developing Def Jam Rapstar, and by partnering with Konami we ensure that everyone around the world will have an opportunity to compete with the best of the best. So show us what you got!"

How to play Def Jam Rapstar without saying the N-word
Avoid awkward lyrical situations without compromising your flow

(http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Games/D/Def%20Jam%20Rapstar/Bulk%20Viewers/360_PS3/2010-04-13/50%20Cent%20-%20I%20Get%20Money%20-%20Gameplay%20Duet--article_image.jpg)

Def Jam Rapstar is the first game absolutely dedicated to hip hop, and will feature over 40 songs, proprietary voice recognition, and a community video sharing feature (like YouTube, only for amateur rappers... or, like YouTube). We don't doubt that it'll be a hit, and we're actually pretty excited to give it a play. There's just one thing...

You know... that word. It's censored in the game as "N---," leaving it up to the player to decide what to say (you can be silent without penalty). If you're like me, as in, require sunscreen when sitting next to an energy-saving light bulb, there's no way you can drop the N-bomb without looking like a complete ass. It just isn't worth it.

(http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Games/D/Def%20Jam%20Rapstar/Bulk%20Viewers/360_PS3/2010-04-13/Notorious%20BIG%20-%20Juicy%20-%20Gameplay%20Solo--article_image.jpg)

But if you spend every other beat contemplating centuries of racial tension, your spitting will be far from dope, which is why awkward white kids everywhere should prepare in advance. Here are a couple tips to help said awkward white kids avoid any embarrassment when they upload their pale selves to defjamrapstar.com.

A. No matter what you say, never pronounce the last syllable. Rookie mistake.

B. If you're amongst potentially sensitive friends, you should avoid saying the word at all. Lucky for you, rappers use words that rhyme with a lot of words, and nyuuughhpggffm is no exception. It's easy: trigger, figure, digger, rigor, vigor, bigger, H.R. Giger.

We've made this excerpt from 50 Cent's "I Get Money" racial sensitivity free. We highlighted our change in case you don't catch it:

See? It's as easy as that. Let's try another. This time, we'll just rhyme the word-in-question with what came before it, which is pretty easy to do in Kanye's "Gold Digger":

Sure it's redundant, but at least you avoided that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, and you won't stumble while competing against your friends in Battle Mode.

You can also go the route of GamePro's AJ Glasser (http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/214802/def-jam-rapstar-preview/) and just replace every non-PC word with a word that's just funny to say, as she has in this excerpt from "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang":

Who knew Dr. Dre was such a big Battlestar and Mork & Mindy/Tribes fan?

Def Jam Rapstar is coming this fall (it was previously scheduled for winter) to the 360, PS3, and Wii.

Also, censorship is dumb  ;D

Def Jam Rapstar dropping exclusive tracks on Europe

It's only fitting that Def Jam Rapstar will include exclusive tracks for Europe -- the birthplace  of rap. Wait -- what? You heard that right, but before we explain, let's go over the exclusive tracks by region:

    * UK -- Tinie Tempah's "Pass Out" and Dizzee Rascal's "Fix Up, Look Sharp"
    * France -- NTM featuring Lord Ko's "Ma Benz" and Sefyu's "Molotov 4"
    * Germany -- Sido's "Mein Block (Beathoavenz remix)" and Kool Savas's "Futurama"

So, about that rap origin story: Modern rap actually originated during the mid-70s in a suburb of Munich, Germany known as Freising. The heavy beats and lyrical dexterity of the genre were perfected in a small parking lot near the Brennergasse by a group of former tuba players who'd practice weekly after hitting the Weihenstephaner a bit too hard. True story.....  ;D

Red & Meth to blow up the mic at E3

Method Man and Redman are teaming up to make E3 feel 'dis, with the rap duo set to make an appearance at the show on behalf of Def Jam Rapstar. They'll be doing some of their hits live for conference goers at the Konami booth on Wednesday, June 16 at 4 p.m. PDT. Frankly, we can't imagine a better way to go through E3 than hearing "Cereal Killer" blast throughout the convention center.

Def Jam Rapstar busts a funky rhyme on October 5.

no vanilla ice is still a deal breaker for me!! And there need to be an eminem dlc pack, i may then consider buying it.

Yo vip lets kick it!

All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

Awesome!!!  :D

Eminem isn't signed to Def Jam so the chances of DLC for him are slim, saying that though theres a bunch of artists on the game that have never done a Def Jam song and are still included so you never know.

As for Robert Van Winkle's biggest hit, play Lips.   :)

Kanye West, Rick Ross Headline New Def Jam Rapstar DLC

Konami and developer 4MM have been doing a great job of supporting Def Jam Rapstar with top-tier DLC, and this week's new songs are no exception. Headlining this week's DLC are superstars Kanye West and Rick Ross, with female legends Eve and Foxy Brown also contributing new tracks. Interestingly, the weekly DLC lineups for PS3 and Xbox 360 are completely different, which is out-of-step with what we've traditionally seen with Rock Band and Guitar Hero, which generally put out the same tracks across all platforms. Each track costs 160 Microsoft Points on 360 or $1.99 on PlayStation Network.

New Xbox 360 Def Jam Rapstar DLC, week of November 16:

Eve – "Who's That Girl"

Kanye West - "Jesus Walks"

Young Money - "Every Girl"

Just Blaze - "Cape Kingz Anthem" (freestyle beat)

Nitti - "Robbin Cru" (freestyle beat)

New PlayStation 3 Def Jam Rapstar DLC, week of November 16:

Drake - "Over"

Flo Rida - "Right Round"

Foxy Brown - "Get Me Home"

Rick Ross - "Hustlin'"

Danja - "Stadium Status" (freestyle beat)

DJ Khalil - "The 15th" (freestyle beat)

Def Jam Rapstar works with Kinect

Hip hop karaoke game Def Jam Rapstar now works with Kinect.

And Kinect rhymes with respect.

So what does this all mean? Can DJR sense your breakdancing, your threatening postures, your gun-shaped hand blasting off?

No. It records your performance for the Def Jam Rapstar community site. And I'm afraid that's it.

Def Jam Rapstar air horned into shops at the end of November. Simon Parkin strapped on the bling for Eurogamer. What did he think? "For me, it's a chance to rap alongside Ghostface Killah in the comfortable privacy of a suburban living room. You can't put a score on that. "

Word, brother.

EMI Suing Def Jam Rapstar Devs Over Song Rights

The makers of Def Jam Rapstar are being sued by EMI for allegedly failing to clear the rights to the tracks featured in the game.

Record label EMI wants $150,000 in damages for every song in the game. They reckon there’s 54 unlicensed tracks, meaning developers 4mm Games and Terminal Reality may have to pay out more than $8 million.

It gets worse too. On top of the $150,000 per track, EMI want a cut of the game’s profits too. Furthermore, the record company says that it own the rights to distribute, display and publicly perform its tracks - all of which have been infringed due to the nature of Def Jam Rapstar’s gameplay. That could mean further claims for damages.

EMI reckons that it notified the developers about the issue, but was ignored.

How do you make a licensed game without having the license?  I'm not a lawyer or game publisher, but I'm pretty sure that's like one of the first steps.

Who greenlit this game?  Suge Knight?
