Title: Destination Arcade
Post by: Lukehi on July 07, 2010, 11:03:54 AM
There are lots of games on XBLA. It might be getting easier to find the ones you'll like.

There's a new look being released to the arcade games section of the dashboard.  For me this will making browsing easier but for others who aren't interested probably won't notice the difference.

My question would be...is this the sign of things to come?  will each section of XBL become more independent as M$ continue to push the console as a multimedia hub?

I thought it was US only. At least that's what it says on true achievements

That's also what I've heard.  At least for now.

It's hard to judge it before actually seeing it in action, but the only thing I'm looking forward to is being able to sort XBLA games by PRICE!  I've been wanting this forever, because I'm a cheap bastard.   ;D

I've got a British account and my girlfriend has an American account and I've seen no updates to the dashboard/arcade menus whatsoever. Or am I reading this wrong and it's stuff that'll be applied soon?

tis where i read this news, been there for a few days now, was waiting for craig to post the news. Looks smart but it's gonna be another app like Zune, Halo Waypoint, Music Stores...

I quite like the current Arcade but will defo give this a go anyway.

I hope it's a little more indepth than the Zune Marketplace app.  On this week's G4 Feedback podcast, they briefly discussed this.  Apparently the goal is to incorporate the "Steam" model to the XBLA Marketplace.

Then if everything works good, they may incorporate all XBL content, which would be great for helping find specific DLC, gamerpics, etc. through community recommendations.

New XBLA dashboard delayed
Pushed back to next week to coincide with Summer of Arcade promotion

Major Nelson has confirmed that the release of the new Xbox Live Arcade browser, dubbed Destination Arcade, will be delayed until Wednesday next week.

Destination Arcade, announced last week, was due to go live in this week's XBL update but MS's blogger says it'll hold for a week. "I wanted to let you know that the Destination Arcade release date has been moved to next Wednesday to kick off the launch of the Summer of Arcade."

Summer of Arcade kicks off on Wednesday, July 21 with Limbo arriving first, followed by Hyrdro Thunder Hurricane on July 28. Then in August we'll get Castlevania: Harmony of Despair , Monday Night Combat, and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Destination Arcade lets you "discover new games and content you enjoy through an easy-to-use visual browser"

My pigeons are keeping me busy for now.

As soon as I get off work, I'm jumping into Wednesday Game Night for a couple hours.

Then I'm off to see The AK Forty Sexuals play at my favorite bar.

Then I'm going to bed.  So .... I guess I'll give it a go tomorrow night.   :P

Destination Arcade has Avatar Award.

You get a white hoody with xbox live on it for entering DA.

You get a Dragon Pet randomly for browsing around.

I still have my gf's US account saved on my harddrive so as soon as I get my Xbox working again I'll give this a look. I'm actually quite excited to see what they've done with it.

I tried it for about 10 minutes.  I didn't like it.

I do all of my Xbox Live Marketplace browsing and purchasing on xbox.com, so I don't usually use the console interface anyways.  Destination Arcade just seemed like another hoop to jump through in order to get the same info I get instantly on xbox.com.

I did appreciate the free Avatar items though.  I name my dragon Oeohfppe.

Failed I tried it out and its pretty nifty, you can sort all xbla games by all diff types, price, genre, etc.,very visual so it takes a minute to load, but once it loads it seems to work seamlessly.Oh and I'm rockin da hoodie and da dragon, cute lil baby dwagon:)

Yeah.  It's a 'time-locked' unlockable.  Nothing specific you have to do, just browse/sort the Destination Arcade app for 5 minutes and it will unlock.

It's also possible that it unlocked and you didn't notice the pop-up telling you it unlocked.  Check your Avatar customization screen's Avatar Awards (or maybe accessories?).

Maybe.   ;)

Some people say the dragon unlocks when you open "Magic: The Gathering" inside Destination Arcade.

I don't remember doing that to unlock my dragon, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

i think the dragon unlockable is completely random not timed, not linked to certain games. it'll unlock EVENTUALLY just keep at it!
