Title: NBA Jam
Post by: GamerMan316 on July 07, 2010, 07:10:41 PM
XBLA may be a possibility for NBA Jam

EA's NBA Jam title may be headed to the Xbox 360, if a listing from Germany's rating organization is any indication.

The Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (probably easier to go with USK) has listed NBA Jam for the Xbox 360 along with MySims Sky Hero.

Until now the NBA Jam revival game was considered as a Wii exclusive, but rumors of an Xbox and PS3 version had been circulating for a while thanks to the CV of an EA employee.

Although the Wii release will be a retail disc, it may be that the 360 version takes the digital download route on XBLA.

This seems likely since NBA Jam appeals to a broad audience of gamers including those who aren't necessarily fans of the sport.

Furthermore, similar sports titles such as 3-on-3 NHL have been quite successful using this method.

Any of you Xbox owners interested in NBA Jam?

I wasn't aware of the Wii-exclusive presumption.  Ever since I heard they were reviving it, I just assumed it would be on Xbox 360.

NBA Jam Confirmed For 360, PS3 (But There's A Nasty Catch)

After months of rumours, EA Sports confirmed today that NBA Jam won't just be released on the Wii, with high definition versions also on the way for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Warning: some bad news follows.

While the game will technically be coming to the PS3 and 360, it won't be available individually. Instead, it'll be included as a downloadable title (via a code) in $60 copies of EA's regular basketball title, NBA Elite.

"We're still holding back the Remix Tour for the Wii consumer, and that's about 20 hours of gameplay," EA Sports' Jordan Edelstein tells ESPN. "But for the PS3 and 360, we want people to try 'Elite'. We feel like 'NBA Elite 11' is a great product and we want people to give it a chance and see all the changes we're making. So as a way to say thanks to these people, we are going to let them experience 'Jam'. It's not the full product, but it's a good portion of it.

"And the only way to play 'Jam' on the 360 and PS3 is by picking up 'Elite'. There's a one-time use code that will be in every copy of 'Elite', so you just go online and redeem it. We're not selling 'Jam' on PSN or Xbox Live. If you still want the full product, the full experience is on the Wii, but if you pick up 'Elite', you're still getting a good taste of it, especially with the inclusion of online play."

Way to go, EA. I didn't think it was possible to dampen my enthusiasm for this game, but you pretty much just found a way to do it. Either pay full price for a Wii version that (so far) lacks online play, or buy a basketball game I don't want and get a glorified demo of the game I did want.

Then again, since this will both boost sales of NBA Elite and kill the game's re-sale value, it's probably mission accomplished from where they're sitting.

NBA Jam PSN/XBLA possible?

EA has hinted that NBA Jam will not remain exclusive to owners of NBA Elite 11, but be offered as a separate download on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade somewhere down the line.

"EA is making no further announcements at this stage," a spokesperson teased Eurogamer this morning.

The comment follows the announcement of a free NBA Jam downoad code for those who buy NBA Elite 11 this October on PS3 or Xbox 360.

Specifically, you'll have access to three NBA Jam modes: Play Now, Classic Campaign and Online. EA's press release called this an "unprecedented value add" to the NBA Elite 11 package.

NBA Jam is being released as a Wii title this October. Literally big-headed basketball stars will play two-on-two, pulling-off incredible slam-dunks and sprouting flames after successful point-scoring tallies.

NBA Elite 11 will be released on 5th October in the US and presumably in Europe soon after.

Loving the screens btw, look at KG's face in the last one  ;D
King James is still at the Cavs though, that'll need changing.

Once NBA 2K11 completeley trounces NBA Elite (in about 2 or 3 weeks), EA will have no choice than to release it on the marketplace for good, I think they would anyway but not for a while, poor sales will give them no option.   :)

NBA Jam now standalone on PSN/XBLA

NBA Jam has become a standalone "holiday" (autumn) release for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

It had been an exclusive treat for owners of NBA Elite 11, but EA Sports delayed that pillar basketball title overnight. The date has been pushed back indefinitely from 8th October.

Peter Moore had this to blog: "This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA Elite. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre.

"Unfortunately, NBA Elite 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month's launch. We are going to keep working until we're certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience."

As compensation, Moore will offer NBA Live 10 players free roster updates for the start of the real-life NBA 2010-2011 season. "We will also provide free Dynamic DNA updates, daily, for the entire season," he wrote. "That's a full season of basketball with new rosters and updates, free."

Moore has boasted big about NBA Elite 11 (nee NBA Live). He told the world this summer that the new game would "evolve" the genre in a way that hadn't been seen for "a decade".

NBA Jam was announced earlier this year as a Wii exclusive. The game will launch for Nintendo's console in Europe sometime next month.

Obama, Bush, Beastie Boys star in NBA Jam
Unlockable celebrity teams and players return in EA's franchise revival

The NBA Jam franchise has featured many unlockable celebrity players down the years, and the upcoming franchise revival will be no different.

There's a political flavour to what's been revealed so far, with a Democrat team featuring Barack Obama (dunking below), Joe Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore, plus a Republican team including George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, John McCain and Dick Cheney.

A hidden Beastie Boys team will also star, according to ESPN.

NBA Jam creative director Trey Smith said: "The reason why NBA Jam did a billion dollars in the arcades -- you don't do that by just being a great sports game -- you do it by just being a great video game... It's an arcade title, it's over-the-top, you catch on fire and do flips 40-feet in the air, and I think one of the secrets that makes up the pure joy of Jam is surprise.

"That goes along with the secret characters as well. All of the different versions had so many hidden characters like Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and The Fresh Prince. Just odd, random stuff, and it's that surprise that speaks to the mantra of what NBA Jam is all about... Secret characters were on the list from day one, and we have a great batch for this new version of Jam."

The game's due to launch on Wii this month and for Xbox 360 and PS3 in time for the holidays.

NBA Jam dev calls out hateful gamers

The biggest problem facing the games industry today is mean-spirited, ill-informed gamers spewing bile on internet message boards, according to NBA Jam's creative director Trey Smith.

Smith told MTV's Multiplayer blog, "I think one of the biggest problems right now is the actions and attitude of some of the gamers out there. You know who they are.

"If they spent less time spewing ignorant hate on the boards and in online games, and more time rallying behind the great games they love and helping to build a thriving community that welcomes everyone that shows up to play with them - everybody wins.

"Nothing wrong with a little smack talk here and there," he added, "just wish gamers respected each other more."

NBA Jam launched on the Wii in the US on Friday, and is heading for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network later this year.

You play nice now, you hear?

£29.99 for what should have been and could have been an xbla title is a joke. EA up to their old tricks again, i hope it fails massively 'cos if it doesn't they will know they made the right decision and we will probably see more xbla titles getting full releases.

NBA Elite 11 cancelled

NBA Elite 11's status has changed from 'delayed' to 'cancelled', publisher EA has announced.

EA's John Schappert made the announcement at an EA investor call today. He went on to add that the franchise would be back next year, with the development reins being picked up by Madden/Tiger Woods studio EA Tiburon.

No reason was offered for the cancellation but it's clear that there have been problems at the publisher's EA Canada outpost, where the game was being made. The publisher made 100 redundancies at the developer last month.

Sports fans will have to settle on the excellent NBA Jam for their b-ball fix, out now on Wii and arriving on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 26th November or the equally excellent NBA 2K11.

I'm hoping this goes badly then goes underground.

Badly means it should hopefully get slashed in price in an effort to get it back up and running again.....
