Title: Alan Wake (Sequel)
Post by: GamerMan316 on August 09, 2010, 05:39:43 PM
Remedy has "great" ideas for Alan Wake 2 News

A sequel to Alan Wake would be Microsoft-exclusive despite developer Remedy owning the intellectual property and controlling its destiny.

"With Microsoft Game Studios it's Xbox exclusive, or it's Xbox and PC," franchise development head Oskari Häkkinen told Eurogamer in an exclusive interview. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-09-alan-wake-remedy-looks-back-interview)

"Please don't put that Alan Wake 2 is going to come out on PC, because that might not be true! Either is a possibility."

Remedy said Alan Wake will remain a Microsoft exclusive because it fits in with the US company's portfolio of first-party games.

"Microsoft put a lot of beef behind the title for it to be an exclusive for the 360. They feel it's an important title for their portfolio. It fits into their portfolio among other games like Gears of War, Halo and Forza.

"They think of their first-party games as a package and a portfolio for the 360. My understanding is we have a great fit in that portfolio as well."

Remedy is yet to talk to Microsoft about creating Alan Wake 2, but wants to do so, the Finnish developer told Eurogamer.

"For both our publisher Microsoft and for Remedy, we're still in a launch phase," Häkkinen said.

"The game just came out. We are still monitoring the main game."

Alan Wake released for the Xbox 360 in May after five years of development.

Eurogamer awarded the game 7/10.

Downloadable episode The Signal was released last week, and The Writer is planned for the autumn.

"We're working hard on the DLC," Häkkinen said.

"We're working full steam ahead here. We're a team of around about 50 people. We've still got plenty to do.

"Being in this launch phase at the moment, we haven't had a chance to get out to Redmond, Microsoft Game Studios, and discuss anything further of how we move on. But I don't see any reason why we wouldn't continue with Microsoft with a full-blown sequel for Alan Wake.

"We definitely want to do it. We have great ideas for it.

"There's certainly a want, and that want is I believe from both sides. Right now I can't confirm anything."

Great Idea # 1:  Develop the game in less than 5 years.

Remedy has confirmed that it's working on the next Alan Wake game -- but the "next" game is not the "Alan Wake 2" that was outed from an artist's resume. Oskari Häkkinen, head of franchise development for the Finnish developer, confirmed to Joystiq that a slice of the team is crafting "this next Wake installment," which is neither sequel nor downloadable content.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that, yes, more Wake is coming!" he said. "But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC." The full explanation, "when we'll actually SHOW YOU," is being saved for the official announcement later.

If it's not a sequel, then what is it? (What is it with you and confounding nebulousness, Alan?) "It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board." Could it be an updated version of the original scary-forest sim, or an episodic continuation?

Remedy is not announcing platforms or release dates yet, but told us that "Fall 2011 is probably a good guess."

Full Remedy statement:
QuoteSo referring to your most recent Joystiq post ... It's awesome to hear you say that Alan Wake appears in your hearts – I've read through all the responses on your site which is fueled with positive responses. It really would seem Alan Wake is very close to the hearts of the fans out there, and to ours too. To that point, it's a shame that this news leaked before our official announcement which will of course include the visuals and information to support it. Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, we owe it to you and the fans to shed a little more light before we get the chance to officially show them what the guys have been up to.

Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually SHOW YOU.
We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board.

We can't wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess. More coming soon!

Not sure if this post fits here, but since there's not too much certainty as to what the next installment of Alan Wake will be, seemed like...you know...whatever, here's the news:

[XBLAFans.com (http://www.xblafans.com/rumor-alan-wake-night-springs-will-be-an-xbla-title-13758.html)] is now reporting news from "an extremely trusted source" which has revealed that the next installment for Alan Wake isn't a downloadable add-on to the first game or a full on retail sequel, but instead a downloadable XBox Live Arcade game called "Night Springs" -

The site was provided with screen caps of the game but was asked not to share them. So more waiting for further details...again this is a rumor, so take it for what it's worth.

Fancy a bit more Alan Wake action? You might have to wait a bit - Microsoft executive Phil Spencer reckons the next instalment has yet to find a publisher.

Spencer was speaking to Joystiq about reports of a new Alan Wake project. "I read that," he said. "I don't know that they've signed it with anybody."

The first Alan Wake game was released last year. According to Spencer it "didn't sell as well" as Microsoft would have liked. However, he added, "I'd love to work with Remedy again. We have ongoing conversations with them."

But are they about that new Alan offering? "I think the stuff they're doing now they wanted to... Incubate internally," he stated. "Like I said, I don't think they've signed it with anybody."

Just last month Remedy's head of franchise development, Osari Hakkinen, told Eurogamer that "more Wake is coming". However, he added, "This next Wake instalment will not be Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC."

Hakkinen hinted that autumn 2011 would be a good guess when it came to a release date. If that's still the case, though, bit odd there's been so sign of the project at E3.
