Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Bugs Out In 2011(http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/09/500x_edf_insect-attack.jpg)
D3 Publisher has made it 100% official—Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next spring, a chance to shoot bugs. Giant bugs! Thousands of them!!
Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon touts an arsenal more than 150 weapons strong. Along with "four upgradeable armor sets," D3 Publisher has a six-player Survival Mode and a three-player online co-op mode. Now that the numbers are out of the way, let's take a peek at one more screen shot of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon in action, plus a teaser trailer.

One final note, though. This EDF entry is being developed by Vicious Cycle, not Sandlot. The developer is responsible for Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond—also known as the better Matt Hazard game—and Dead Head Fred. Let's hope the game's creators can match (or surpass) the addictive nature of previous Earth Defense Force games (and maybe keep that frame rate steady).
Here's an all-too-brief teaser trailer for Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, full of screams!
hmmmm...rental maybe?
Looks like a generic shooter with nothing new, it'll go the way of Op. Flashpoint and LP2, bargain bin at £14.99 within 3 months!

Official Blurb:
"Taking place in the fictional city of New Detroit, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is a completely new game developed by Vicious Cycle that takes on the concept of Earth Defense Force 2017 (Japanese Title "Earth Defense Force 3" developed by Sandlot). Insect Armageddon continues to follow the rich history of casual fun and addictive gameplay that made the franchise a cult classic. Insect Armageddon also adds a new aspect to the Earth Defense Force series that was born in Japan, with additional elements for all EDF soldiers to experience. The Campaign mode that lets up to three players team up online to battle the insects and aliens across a completely destroyable city. Every EDF soldier is armed with over 150 weapons and four upgradeable armor sets and engages in nonstop arcade action that is the fastest and deadliest in the series. In addition, the game also features a six-player Survival mode that pits a human squad against a nonstop onslaught of the largest enemies the aliens have to offer. New Detroit's giant bug problem is unavoidable, and mankind's last hope lies with the Earth Defense Force to defend the world from the insect swarm, even if it means blowing up the entire city as part of the extermination process."

I think it looks a little too polished for my liking. I prefer the stiff, plastic character models.
It looks like a bad ps2 game, or good ps1 game :P
the graphics look even worse in motion, the characters turn at the waist like action figures, the music, dialogue and sound effects are aweful too. The menu system is like an old Megadrive menu, no auto-save, no online coop and you have to complete the game 6 times for all achievements.
... still one of the best games i've played

That is pretty much my same experience playing it with my roommate at the time. We would laugh so loud my neighbors would yell "SHUT UP!" :D :D :D
It probably takes about 20-30 hours to complete the game, getting all the level achievements (weapon achieve is all luck) and i've played about 85 hours, most of it just pissing about. Trying new weapons, blowing up all buildings and other crap.
I still need 11 weapons (which is stupid unlucky) after 85 hours, possibly the ONLY person in the world :/
Gameplay
This is where the game is really at .... COOP
I can't say how super psyched i am for this game!!! No game nights for 2 weeks after it's released :P

Noob-Luke will pick up the slack while you're M.I.A. ;)
I was a little worried with Sandlot not on the case, but i can see that they've tried to add something new with the classes and the new bugs.
I'm hoping they are fans of the original, they will know what to keep and what to improve on. Keep ridiculous amounts of bugs and 300+ weapons of mass destructinormousnus! 6 difficulties including the ever frustrating Inferno and completely destructable everything.
Then they can change everything else.
ohhhhh yeeaaaaahhhhh!!! i give you the Pesticide Gun
The game will feature over 300 weapons, including the Pesticide Gun.
These guns do a "massive amount" of damage and have a large damage radius, but they are Tier 8 weapons; this means that you have to do a massive amount of annihilation before you can earn them. Unfortunately, they are also a one-shot reload. The game features four upgradeable armour sets, and each of these armour sets has one type of Pesticide Gun allocated to it.

It's a good read, detailing some new enemies, Mantis and Daddy Longlegs. The 4 new armors and hints at their abilities and how you can only use certain weapons with a specific class. Online and Offline coop, vehicles and other gameplay elements.

Earth Defence Force sequel to get limited UK release
Namco Bandai recommends preordering for safety's sake
Namco Bandai's announced that Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon will be treated to a "limited" UK release on 8th July, and recommends that interested parties preorder the game.
The original Earth Defence Force was a bit of a cult favourite, applying the concept of "large gun" to the concept of "annoying giant arachnid" in a way that was somehow unputdownable.
