Post by: GamerMan316 on October 11, 2010, 12:18:51 AM
LoveFilm PS3 app announced

A video was posted on the Playstation 3 YouTube channel on the 21st September. It's entitled 'LOVEFiLM is coming to PlayStation 3?. It shows an advertisement that includes the Lovefilm app running on a PS3. It's only got 123 views so seems to have gone pretty unnoticed but there you go folks. You can stream movies and manage your rental lists and account. The service will be free to those of us with LoveFilm accounts – take a look below for the video and some screenshots.

From Autumn, film fans on LoveFilm subscription packages can start streaming thousands of titles through their TV to their PS3.

Open up a world of interactivity and scroll through popular titles and search through categories including 'Pick of the Week', 'Most watched' and 'Highest Rated'.

Free trials and incentives will be made available to those who are not already a LOVEFiLM subscriber so no-one misses out!

With thousand of popular titles available on LOVEFiLM, there will never be a shortage of great films to watch.

Would love a Lovefilm/360 deal but I have a PS3 so it's all good.   ;D

It wouldn't make we want to buy one if I didn't have one either, still a good deal though, if more newer releases can be streamed along with the older titles then it will be a lot better, i've talked about wanting LoveFilm on the 360 quite a lot in the past, similar to Netflix for our cousins across the pond, I doubt it'll happen but this is a nice substitute.   :)

Charlie has decided to put his PS3 away as he has realised the xbox ismuch better.Another waste of money then!
But,then again I was going to have it downstairs, but Tommy 'fingers' might get hold of it.We'll see.
Getting bored of the xbox lately but that might change once Medal of Honor,CoD 99 or something and the new fallout arrive.
Getting back to lovefilm, might try it out again........hmmmmmmmmm

LOVEFiLM confirmed for PlayStation 3

Sony's just confirmed the much-rumoured arrival of a LOVEFiLM application for the PlayStation 3.

LOVEFiLM is a subscription film service that's proved popular in the UK over recent years.

Those on LOVEFiLM subscription packages of £5.99 or above will be able to stream "the UK's largest choice of subscription titles" directly to their tellys through their consoles.

LOVEFiLM currently enjoys 1.4 million subscribers. The deal will see it enter into PS3's three million UK households, Sony said.

"The LOVEFiLM service will become available on the XMB (Xross Media Bar) on all internet-connected PS3s, providing most members of LOVEFiLM on subscription packages access to thousands of titles from major studios and independents, streamed instantly to their TV via their PS3, in addition to the rental by post services," reads the official blurb.

LOVEFiLM will offer PS3 users who are not already LOVEFiLM subscribers "exclusive incentives to join the service, including free trials".

"We know there is a huge interest within our audience for film, and so the addition of LOVEFiLM to our current range of services is a very natural fit and one which significantly enhances the value proposition of PlayStation 3," said Ray Maguire, MD of Sony Computer Entertainment UK.

"LOVEFiLM has a proven track record of success and innovation in the film distribution field and is a very welcome addition to the PlayStation family that I'm confident PlayStation gamers will embrace enthusiastically."

The news comes as no surprise. On Monday a video posted on the PS3 YouTube channel revealing the application and an autumn release window was withdrawn.

The PS3 is still a great media hub.  Even though I rarely play games on it, it is my official DVD/Blu Ray player since I think the DVD upscaling is better than the Xbox 360.

I have nothing to compare it against but i am quite happy with the dvd upscaling on my 360, very good picture quality and not hugely different from when i watch movies in HD through my Sky HD box.

The differences are so subtle that I don't think there are even any official spec comparisons.  I pleaded with the brains on the AVS forums for some scientific comparisons, but nothing ever came of it.

At this point, it's really just a matter of personal opinion.  I have 2 copies of Fight Club and I Am Legend on DVD.  I played them both simultaneously on my Xbox 360 and PS3, and just switched between channels to compare.  Not very scientific, but I do think the PS3 upscales a little better than the 360.

Plus, I like not using my 360's DVD drive for movies.  I already wear it out with games.   ;)

My Sony dvd recorder upscales dvds better than the 360 so I use that, for me the PS3 is marginally better at upscaling than the 360 but there isn't much difference to be fair.

Just had a quick blast of Lovefilm on the PS3 and it looks pretty good, only watched the main trailer (which worked fine) but used the search function and there are thousands of films for me to watch as part of my main subscription, and all at no extra cost, i'll try a film later to see how well they stream.
