Title: Xbox lamed out on me. Again!
Post by: Handshakes on October 31, 2010, 03:27:45 PM
Yup. All my hardcore Fable-ing over the past few days has taken its toll on my poor 360. I haven't red ringed, so I can still turn my 360 on and get to the dashboard. I can even play Arcade games. Huzzah. Nope, this time the problem is with the dvd player. My 360 won't read discs anymore. I don't even think it spins them.

This 360 is less than a year old, so hopefully I can get it fixed for free. We'll see.

EDIT: Sometimes it works. Sometimes it don't... Hmm. Well, I feel like my Xbox is dying anyway, so I'll wait for the rrod before I call it in.

My mate's 360 has got exactly the same problem, he's had his for a few years now though, he's using it as an excuse to get a new slim one.   :)

I had that problem with a model less than a year old, told me i would have to pay £95 for them to fix it. I just bought another one.

I haven't filed for a repair in a while, but if possible I would suggest you go ahead and report the broken DVD Drive AND RRoD.  Even though it hasn't RRoD yet, it will.  You might as well get it in the shop while the 1-year DVD Drive warranty is still active.

I had this same issue pop up about a year ago and it went away. This week though, it decided to stay and I've in turn, decided to ship the console out. Discs wouldn't spin and the dashboard would claim "Reading" then soon after "Open Tray"... it's done that before, but this time it was constant.  We'll see what MS says once they get the box, for now, looks like my PS3 will get some much needed dusting off...

This may be a sign to move onto XB1, but there's still a grip of games on 360 I've been meaning to get to. Damn you non-backwards-compatibility!
