Rumour: 343 developing Halo remake
To be released in 2011
The latest issue of GamesMaster has some interesting "industry chatter" surrounding the Halo franchise. The magazine states that Microsoft's internal Halo-centric studio, 343 Industries, will be remaking the original title in the franchise.
This remake would be running in the Halo: Reach engine and could be with us by the end of 2011. With Microsoft eager to turn Halo into an annual series, this seems like a relatively cheap and easy way of getting another game out in time for next Christmas.
GamesMaster reports that this would pave the way for a full Halo sequel -- the first non-Bungie developed game in the franchise -- to be released in late 2012.
With Sony having seen great success in remastering PS2 titles such as God of War and Sly Cooper, it makes perfect sense for Microsoft to make their own attempt. Not to mention the fact that fans have been asking for a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved since the first screenshots of Halo 3 were revealed.
Hopefully we'll see official confirmation of this soon.
As a fanboy it only has to have Halo in the name! Even if it was Halo Kitten Rescue, they'd have my moneyz!
Let it die!
NEVER!!! I want 2 Halo games a year, let Call of DoneItLastYear die instead!
An remastered compilation of Halo 1 & 2 would sell. I probably wouldn't buy it since I played those games to death.
Now if they took those resources and put them to remastering ALL of the multiplayer maps from all of the previous Halo games for Halo Reach, I'd buy that.

Achievements would make me want to play through them again. :)
Forget remakes!!! new ideas people please just a shameless cash in, lack of new ideas make me sad :'(
I like a mix, i'd get pretty bored if it was just new stuff all the time, sometimes i like something and i want more of it... like chocolate peanut butter.
Report: Halo remake out this year, developed by Saber Interactive
Joystiq is reporting (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/04/halo-combat-evolved-hd/) that the rumoured Halo: Combat Evolved remake is not only real, but they know who's making it and when it will be released. Allegedly it's being created by TimeShift developers Saber Interactive and you'll be able to get your hands on it on November 15 this year. A full ten years after the original release on Xbox.
It's being completely remade, rather than simply upscaled with improved textures like Beyond Good And Evil HD, with completely new art assets and "is expected" to suppoer 1080p resolution and stereoscopic 3D. It will also "likely" feature an online co-op mode.
Joystiq seems pretty confident in their information, but obviously we can't start getting properly excited until we hear official confirmation from Microsoft. Hopefully we hear something soon.
hmmm, i would be pysched to play this, but i would probably only rent, steal or borrow it.
Halo Anniversary Kinect support confirmed
Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice-president Phil Spencer has confirmed that 343 Industries' tasty-looking Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will support Kinect.
The remark slipped out during an interview with Gamespot. "Core focus for us in our press briefing this year with Kinect actually came from two sides," Spencer explained.
"As a first-party, we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games, be it racing games with Forza, combat games like Ryse. Even games like Halo Anniversary has Kinect integration."
Spencer wouldn't reveal the precise nature of Anniversary's Kinect functionality, but his comments (also to Gamespot) last week may serve as some indication.
"It's not a mandate that everything we do in first party has to support Kinect right now. But I will say, specifically with voice, that there are some things that just seem to make navigating and playing games so much easier...that I would guess the answer will be yes in the end that you'll see all first-party games using some form of Kinect functionality."
Voice control is the one feature we can imagine gelling naturally with Combat Evolved's gunplay. Imagine ordering UNSC marines to dig in behind a tank as you trundle towards the Covenant lines, or having them distract Elites while you circle round to a turret.

Halo Anniversary Kinect features "optional"
"Core gameplay experience" unaffected
Whatever form they take, the mysterious Kinect features 343 Industries has planned for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will be optional, the studio has confirmed.
News that the game will support Kinect had some fans' nerves jangling earlier this week, but a community manager for 343 popped up on the Halo Waypoint forums yesterday to offer a little reassurance.
"Just to let everybody know, the Kinect features we're exploring with Halo: Anniversary are optional and won't affect your core gameplay experience," read the post.
"Our mission, from day one, has been to deliver a faithful recreation of the original game, and we remain dedicated to seeing that through to completion."
The new take on the decade-old FPS classic lands on Xbox 360 on 15th November.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Seeing the Return of Classic 'Headlong' MapAnnounced at the Tokyo Games Show earlier today, 343 Industries and Microsoft have confirmed that the classic Halo 2 'Headlong' multiplayer map will be remade as the 'Breakneck' map for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, bringing back the large-scale fan favourite map with updated visuals and high vantage points.
Snipers will find perfect spots upon the rooftops of the map's surrounding skyscrapers, looking down into the vast central basin where vehicular combat can take place. Breakneck will support multiplayer modes for 8-16 players. Furthermore, 343 also unveiled the opening level of Halo: CE at TGS, 'Pillar of Autumn', showing off the winding corridors of the eponymous starship in its newly remastered, high-definition form.
And finally, 343 also confirmed details of the upcoming title update for Halo: Reach, which will re-introduce the classic Halo Magnum pistol alongside classic playlists "designed to reignite the multiplayer mayhem players first enjoyed a decade ago," it says here. The update will also include fixes to balance the various armour abilities like Amrour Lock and Active Camo in multiplayer. Any Halo: Reach players with an XBL Gold Membership will be able to sample the title update in the beta from October 4th.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is out on November 15th in North America and November 18th in Europe.
I'm going to try to track down my old college roomates when this comes out. REMATCH! ;D

Doesn't seem too bad!
Edit: I feel like I'll have all of these in like three days. Kinda disappointing, but that means more time to do skyrim.

don't forget we'll probably get some new Reach achievements as the Anniversary maps are for Reach not standalone.

Halo Anniversary Kinect features
Microsoft has revealed how Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary works with Kinect.
During a New York Comic-Con panel (reported by IGN), Microsoft's 343 Industries unveiled the suite of Kinect features included in the HD remake.
Through Analyse Mode, you can scan items in the single-player campaign by moving the targeting reticule over them and saying the word "scan". Items you're able to scan include vehicles, characters, enemies and weapons.
Library is where you use gesture controls to view information about the items you've scanned. Your Library will grow as you scan more items.
And lastly, you can use your voice to switch the visuals from remastered to classic and vice versa, reload and throw grenades.
Do Halo Anniversary's Kinect features provide a glimpse into how Halo 4 will integrate Microsoft's motion-sensing tech?
In August Microsoft stressed Halo Anniversary's Kinect features were "cool", but said gamers shouldn't get too excited by them.
"I don't think it's going to be something that people need to be hyper-excited about," franchise development director Frank O'Connor said.
"It'll be cool, but it's not something you'd put on the front of the box. I don't want to downplay it, but I think of it like this - I use voice on Netflix and it's awesome, and that's what this'll be. Something that enhances you overall experience."
Earlier, 343 said the Halo remake's Kinect features would be optional.
"Just to let everybody know, the Kinect features we're exploring with Halo: Anniversary are optional and won't affect your core gameplay experience," read the post by a 343 community manager.
"Our mission, from day one, has been to deliver a faithful recreation of the original game, and we remain dedicated to seeing that through to completion."
Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced that the Hang 'Em High map remake, High Noon, is included with Halo: Anniversary.
i like the idea, using voice controls to streamline the game. I hope it can be done with a headset too though!
