Title: Xbox Live Rewards
Post by: Lukehi on December 01, 2010, 10:45:59 AM
Rumoured to be happening and now it appears some-one at M$ jumped the gun (again) and made the xbox.com webpage for the new reward service live.

Kokatu have the article:

Microsoft's "Xbox Live Rewards" program, which began testing over a year ago, looks set to finally be about to open to the public, with a page turning up on Xbox.com devoted to the service.

The program essentially rewards users for spending money on Xbox Live, giving out Microsoft Points and other freebies for doing things like renewing Xbox Live subscriptions and purchasing content on the various Xbox Live Marketplaces.

You can see an example chart below; we don't know much more specific stuff, because while this welcome page is active, any attempts to login and access further content or information are met with dead links.

Was reading through their FAQ and found this:

Why can't I access my account information immediately after Registration?
A. It takes up to 36 hours to verify your information and set up your account. Don't worry, once you sign up we'll begin tracking your activity so you can earn Rewards points.

It's been more than 36 hours and I haven't received an update on my account. Is there a problem?
A. While most users receive confirmation within 36 hours, in rare circumstances, it may take up to 96 hours for your account set up to complete. You will receive an email once your information is verified.

Here's the full page: http://rewards.xbox.com/faq/ (http://rewards.xbox.com/faq/)

Thanks Zero...I had the same email as Neato but no activity on the site yet.

Spose quite a few users will have signed up for this in the last 24 hours.

I'm most interested in how they deal with back-dating rewards?  I doubt they'll award any but I can hope.

This is Microsoft we're talking about, they won't back date it and this current system will work ok for a while before everybody starts hating it and then they'll make us sign up again with a brand new flashy rewards system, you know just like they do with Windows all the damn time!

I've been reading throught the T&C's and it appears that this is severly weighted towards new XBL users and in my opinion trying to convince the silver users to upgrade.

The scheme is scheduled to run until June 30 2011.

During this time I wont be renewing my 'Gold' as it doesn't expire until Jan 2012.  Also I'm already a Sky Player user and have bought many items from the marketplace in the past so I'm exempt from any rewards for these.

It seems that the only way I'll be earning any rewards is through purchasing the 'special marketplace content' or completing the surveys (120MSP for the six months).

Disappointed to say the least... :(

I'm currently having real problems with this service.

I can access and use xbox.com whilst logged in or logged out.  I can also access rewards.xbox.com whilst logged out.

If I try to login to the rewards site the page never loads and constantly attempts to 'reload' the page over and over again.   I've let this run for +30 mins before and it's liek my login is stuck in an endless loop... >:(

I've tried clearing cache/cookies and that doesn't work so I'm out of ideas.  Can anyone help?

A couple of possible remedies ...

1.  If you're using Internet Explorer, try with/without compatibility mode.
2.  Go to the following sites and "Sign Out".  live.com, xbox.com, billing.microsoft.com
3.  Delete ALL temporary internet files, including stored passwords, favorites, etc.  Then restart your computer immediately.
4.  Try a different browser.

I doubt it, I joined a week after renewing my live for similar reasons and got zip. I'm still waiting to receive 20 points for a survey I did.

I neat bonus I wasn't expecting ...

If you stack prepaid Gold cards onto your account, you get the 200MSP Rewards every year a new card goes into effect.  I thought you had to purchase your Gold membership direct from Xbox LIVE (overpriced), but if you find a good deal on prepaid cards you still get the Rewards.  :)
