Title: Dreamcast Collection
Post by: GamerMan316 on December 15, 2010, 12:30:28 PM
Dreamcast Collection confirmed

SEGA plans to release a Dreamcast Collection "soon".

Confirmation comes from SEGA's executive vice president of sales and marketing Alan Pritchard, who told the January issue of Game Informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/12/13/630598.aspx) magazine that the publisher plans to bring some of its old Dreamcast games to market digitally and packaged.

"The Dreamcast fans are very devoted," he said. "You see on eBay people are still buying the games and system. We actually have a Dreamcast collection coming out soon. We are looking to bring some of the old Dreamcast games to market digitally and packaged. The titles are still to be announced. The Ultimate Genesis Collection did huge numbers on PS3 and 360, so it's an important part of our business. We've already been releasing some Dreamcast games digitally; Crazy Taxi [for one]."

In November US shop GameStop published a listing for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title called Dreamcast Collection. The listing was subsequently pulled.

It did not offer any details about the collection, but it did mention a possibly placeholder release date of 15th February 2011 and a price point of $29.99. Which games would you like to see included?

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Game Informer interview, Pritchard responded to a question about a possible Dreamcast 2. This is what he said in response: "Unless there's something I don't know – no one has told me about getting back into the console business."

For shame.

Even more so if it happens to include Shenmue.   :)

Will have to keep an eye for what makes it into this Collection. My Dreamcast is still purring and occasionally still gets use - shame it didn't take off during its prime the way it could have.

SEGA Dreamcast Collection Announced. Bitter Disappointment Ensues

When we caught the whiff of rumours circulating that SEGA was preparing to launch a Dreamcast Collection, naturally we got very excited indeed. We set to thinking, what incredible SEGA classics might be squeezed onto the disc. Shenmue perhaps? Jet Set Radio? Chu Chu Rocket, surely?!

Well, today SEGA has officially announced that the Dreamcast Collection is coming exclusively to Xbox 360 (and PC), but it's actually a bitter disappointment, especially for die-hard Dreamcast fans who have spent the last month wondering what games they might look forward to revisiting.

Unfortunately, the collection is merely a disc featuring the four games already available from the Xbox Live Arcade, so if you've been happily playing Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, and you're looking forward to Space Channel 5 Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing on XBLA, then the Dreamcast Collection will come as a major letdown.

Still, if you've avoided the Dreamcast offerings currently on XBLA, then the Dreamcast Collection may yet prove decent value for money, providing SEGA price it accordingly. The SEGA Dreamcast Collection is out on February 22nd in North America and February 25th in Europe. Here's hoping SEGA has a better follow-up collection up its sleeve with more of the Dreamcast games we really want.

How do you have a Dreamcast collection without Power Stone?

That is exactly what I was hoping for.   >:(

Maybe this is just a way for Sega to 'test the waters' for possible future releases.  Here's hoping.

I hope so, there are plenty of DC games I wanna play but can't afford to buy a DC on ebay or anything. Plus getting achievements for them woudl be a big bonus :D

If they're really trying to test the waters, that's kind of a bass-ackwards way to go about it - technically re-releasing games on disc...? Shouldn't XBLA sales of those same games prove an accurate meter? Sega does some weird shite sometimes at every chance they get.

some people aren't on LIVE. If half of gamers aren't connected, your only selling to half.

I'm not sure what the stats are. Would be interesting to know how many are actually connected to the internets, even percentage wise. Half sounds like a steep thought...but somewhat plausible.

I take it the Arcade version of the 4 games gives out 200 achievement points for each game. But the boxed version will be 250 achievement points each plus a lower combined price. Would that be right?

probably not, it will be 4 seperate 200G not a collective 1000G.

I don't think it will be like Hsbro Family Game Night with 6 seperate games but a combined achievement list. It will be like Namco Museum with 7 seperate games you can get achievements on, all 200G.

If they end up selling more disc copies than download copies, they may consider changing their release plans in the future.

half their customers, not half of xbox owners. So if they have 10 customers and 5 are online, they're selling to those 5.
