Title: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
Post by: sambo on January 06, 2011, 06:08:03 PM
A pair of job listings on Gamasutra indicate that Medal of Honor developers Danger Close are on a hiring spree for their next project.

The job listings request people to work on an "unannounced AAA first person shooter title" that is "early in development". Specifically, they're looking for a Senior Gameplay Engineer and a Weapon and Vehicle Artist.

There's no reason why this couldn't be Medal of Honor 2. EA spent a lot of money rebooting the franchise in an attempt to combat Call of Duty. While it may not have worked, the game still sold over 2 million copies worldwide so the risk involved in a sequel would be minimal.

You never know, though; Danger Close and EA could surprise us with a new IP. With the game being early in development it's unlikely we'll hear about it for a while. Regardless, it's nice to see studios staffing up rather than closing shop.

EA teases "very exciting" new FPS

EA will release a "very exciting" as-yet unannounced FPS before the end of 2011, according to CEO John Riccitiello.

The EA boss made the announcement while answering a question from an investor regarding the future of the Medal of Honor franchise during an earnings call today.

"The intention for us is to have strong FPS entries each year," he explained.

"I don't want to give away the thunder from our call but for quite a long time now I've been saying it's our long term goal to take back the first person shooter category leadership.

"We've made strong progress in calendar '10 over calendar '09. This year, with the tail-end of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 still doing well and Medal of Honor still doing well... with Crysis and Bulletstorm we're clearly going to make more progress towards our goal and that's before we get to what I think is going to be a very exciting entry later in the year that we're not yet announcing."

Of course, he could be referring to Battlefield 3, widely expected to launch this year – though that was officially announced in August last year and has been talked-up by Riccitiello since.

Failing that, we're left with either a second bite of the cherry from the new look Medal of Honor series or a brand new franchise. Place your bets.

Medal of Honor Sequel Incoming, Details Soon

EA has announced that it will unveil a new Medal of Honor title next month.

Invites have been sent to various outlets for an event on Tuesday, March 6th, the week of the Game Developer’s Conference. The big announcement looks set to happen at 20:00 PST.

It’s no surprise. EA has absolutely no secret about the fact that it’s working on a sequel, but nothing is known about the contents of the actual game.

“We expected more and for the next outing, Danger Close and co. are going to have to up their game significantly,” said Dan in our review of 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot.

Let’s hope they have. We’ll get some indication on March 6th.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Revealed, Hits in October

The next Medal of Honor game will be called Warfighter, will not have DICE-developed multiplayer and will ship in October.

As with Medal of Honor (2010), the game will be developed by Danger Close, using DICE’s Frostbite 2.0 engine. However, unlike the previous game, Danger Close will be doing their own multiplayer.

Beyond the fact that the game will follow Tier 1 operatives, however, we know little else. OXM has screens, details and interviews in its next issue and a proper unveiling is scheduled for GDC in a couple of weeks. So expect more then.

In the meantime, what do you make of Warfighter as a title? No-nonsense and straight to the point, or the dumbest, least imaginative title ever?

Looks pretty the Frostbite engine working well but to be honest am getting fatigued by all these shooters if you just looked at  the trailer you'd be hard pressed to tell if it was battlefield or MW nevermind MOH

A lot of not-so-good reviews.  The consensus seems to be the game has a lot of potential, but feels rushed & unfinished.

Apparently this game sucks. I played one match in the beta and then removed it, the guns felt alright but the map I tried was way too small. What I read about it before made me quite interested in the single player at least, but from what I've seen it's way too linear for my taste. I'll just spend my money on FC 3 since I know I'll enjoy that game.

Source: [CBS (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57547417/7-navy-seals-disciplined-for-role-with-video-game/)]

Quote(CBS News) The U.S. Navy SEALs are part of an elite force that operates in the shadows, best known for killing Osama bin Laden. However, CBS News has learned a group of SEALs has been disciplined for revealing secrets.

The seven members of SEAL Team Six are all still on active duty. One of them was on the raid which killed Osama bin Laden and made SEAL Team Six a household name. For two days this spring and summer, they worked as paid consultants on a recently released video game, "Medal of Honor: Warfighter."

Four other members of the team who have since transferred out of the unit but are still on active duty are under investigation.

The game does not recreate the bin Laden raid, but it does portray realistic missions, such as an attack on a pirates' den in Somalia. It was produced by Electronic Arts, which boasts that real commandos, both active duty and retired, help make its games as realistic as possible.

It is unclear what secrets members of SEAL Team Six gave away, but while serving as consultants for the game, they used classified material which had been given to them by the Navy. They also violated the unwritten code that SEALs are silent warriors who shun the spotlight.

In fact, the SEALs have been buried in an avalanche of publicity, some of it approved by Adm. William McRaven, the commander of the bin Laden raid and now the head of the Special Operations Command, for instance, the movie "Act of Valor."

"Yes, there are SEALs, I think eight of them, active duty Navy SEALs, that are in it," said McRaven. "It started as a recruiting film."

SEAL Team Six will be featured in two upcoming movies: One about the rescue of the captain of a container ship kidnapped by Somali pirates, the other about the bin Laden raid. The SEALs have gone Hollywood, but it could cost those who worked on the video game their careers.

The seven who have been punished so far all received letters of reprimand which would kill their chances for promotion. They also had half their pay taken away for two months.

If you make a conscious decision to shine a spotlight on a team of covert operatives, don't act surprised when those operatives forget what "covert" means.  Learn your lesson, Navy.   #)
