Title: Going to get a new console, which one, what do you think?
Post by: CRracer_912 on June 23, 2011, 02:58:50 PM
I NEED another console (read not really, but that's beside the point).

On the one hand, there is the new GoW3, pre order for 399.  Has two controllers and they appear to have the new D pad, 320 GB hard drive.  LE scheme on the box is semi appealing to me, its unique. I'm not really in to GoW, but my oldest boy plays the game so I'd get use of the included game.  I'm curious what the sound this console says it makes will sound like, I don't want it freaking me out.

On the other hand, we have the 250 gb for 299.  Amazon usually has a 50. credit (I've seen it off and on for the past month).  I'm guessing the controller is the standard controller. I'm not sure if the new D Pad is all that, or perhaps it really is awesome.  I can't recall a time when I am using the d pad though. Input on this?  I typically install game, but I'm guessing the 250 GB hard drive would suffice, I still have 150 GB on my current FFXIII console with a snazzy Forza II faceplate.

Other than being slim and included wifi, are there any other hardware differences in the new console (I know the HD is a different setup)?  I'm looking to get another so my youngest son can have one.  Other than not being able to install games, is there any other disadvantage to the 4GB model?

I recently bought the regular black slim console from Amazon, with the $50 credit.  Very happy with it.

I don't know what kind of sound the GoW3 console is supposed to make.  I have little interest in 'limited edition' models since the gimmick seems to get old.  You can't go wrong with clean slick black.

As for the d-pad, my sister bought the newer silver 'transforming' controller.  The d-pad is noticably improved.  However, like you said, I rarely use the d-pad while playing games.  For games that require heavy use of a d-pad, like oldschool classics or 2D fighters, I use my MadCatz Street Fighter IV controller (http://www.madcatz.com/productinfo.asp?page=247&GSProd=3417&GSCat=97&CategoryImg=Xbox_360_Controllers), which is pretty much a repurposed Sega Saturn controller.
