Welcome back!

The new site is up and running.  Here are a few things you need to know.

1.  While the site may look different, you'll notice the layout is very similar to the old one.  So hopefully you won't have a very hard time finding your way around.

2.  However, do keep in mind that SOME options and features have changed.  Be sure to visit your profile and personal settings to make sure everything is set the way you like it.

3.  Bad news:  We lost all posts and new member accounts after June 25th.  I still haven't figured out why.  I could take another week trying to find a solution, but I think I've made you all wait long enough. 

4.  Good news:  Free déjà vu while we all pick up our conversations from June 25th.    :P

5.  During the upgrade some boards, topics, posts, etc. got lost in translation, meaning the text and formatting of the old site wasn't 100% compatible with the new site.  Don't be alarmed if you see weird text or blank posts.  Feel free to correct/edit your own posts as needed.  If you have any problems doing so, just let me know.

6.  The new site is still a work-in-progress, and will remain so over the next few weeks or months.  Expect changes and new features as I learn my way around this new animal.

If anyone has any problems, suggestions, or comments about the new site, post them here.   :)

NEW FEATURE:

You can now add your gamertag, last.fm, and other handles to your forum profile (the area to the left of every post).  Just go to your Profile > Forum Profile to add your details.

This will make it a lot easier to connect with eachother, especially for new members.  It will also free up some much needed clutter in our signatures.  ;)

Also, if you know what a favicon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon) is, we now have one.  It's the small things in life, am I right?  lol

NEW FEATURE!

Chat is back!

There is a small chatbox located at the top of the Home page.  Click "Open Popup" if you'd like to view it a separate window.  Toggle sound on/off by clicking the (http://www.360fahrenheit.com/forum/Themes/default/images/bbc/nosound.gif) button.

A great tool for letting people know you're online wanting to play a game, or you're (I'm) running late.   ;D

The chat can be viewed by guests, so keep it clean.   ;)

I want to move the chatbox under NEWS and above GETTING STARTED.  I'm still trying to figure that out.

I was not going to buy GoW3 as i just could no get to grips with GoW2 multi play, so I was going to rent but as the advertising monster for GoW3 is beginning to pick up a pace I think I may well buy the damn game  ???  ;D

Something is wrong with the forum, causing errors for some, and slow loadtimes for others.

I'm going to shutdown the forum on Saturday 7/30 to do some maintenance.  Since we're not relocating to a new host, or completely redesigning the site again, I'm pretty sure everything will be back up & running before Sunday 7/31.

NEW FEATURE (should have mentioned earlier)

As you may have already noticed, there is a new (http://www.360fahrenheit.com/forum/Themes/default/images/bbc/toggle.gif) button in the post reply page.  If you haven't figured it out already, this is the "Toggle View" button.

What does that mean?  It means you can switch between BBCode View (what we've become accustomed to) and WYSIWYG View (What You See Is What You Get).

Slight change of plans.  I wasn't able to work on the site today, so I'll shut her down on Sunday.  I'm thinking it should only take a 1-2 hours, but every time I say that it takes a week.  So I'll just say it will be back when I'm done.   ;)

Maintenance is complete.

The only change you'll probably notice is the Chat is now located below News.

Uploaded avatars and post attachments had to be deleted.  You can reupload your avatar, or you can opt to use the "Specify avatar by URL" feature to use an image located on another site (ImageShack, TinyPic, etc.) to avoid having to reupload in the future.

If anyone experiences any site problems, post here as usual.

Something I was wanting to do, but didn't have time, was to integrate Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ buttons into the site.

A couple of things I just noticed Neato, IE 9's simply a pain in the ass. It's not showing the "smileys" in the 'post-reply' window or on any of the posted messages.  They look like broken images, the descriptions show up on 'mouse-over'- but not much else, this also applies to Compatibility Mode.

The chat's also not functioning in IE 9, but it works fine in Compatibility Mode, IE 9 takes to the web like:

People on the Xbox.com Forums are also complaining that IE9 isn't working there either.  Which is baffling since the whole point of the new Xbox.com was to improve its compatibility with future web tech.

I'm still running on XP, so IE9 is a problem I won't be having anytime soon.

I believe the top box has to do with our online/offline status and the other has to do with the ranking, "Hero", "Senior", etc...could be wrong, but that's what I gather.

I've created profiles on various gaming and social sites to officially represent us.

What I'd like to do is use these new tools to notify everyone of Game Nights, contests, etc.  Does anyone know of an easy way interconnect these services so I can simply post one message (or possibly RSS feed), and it will automatically post on all sites?

I'm pretty clueless about social networking, so if anyone has any advice I welcome it.   :)

I figured this out myself.   8)

For anyone interested in doing this themselves for blogs or whatnot, check out http://twitterfeed.com.  It will receive your RSS feed(s), and automatically post updates to Twitter, Facebook, and some others.

Using to our new site's RSS capabilities (http://www.360fahrenheit.com/forum/index.php?topic=2295.msg63627#msg63627), I've set certain boards of interest to auto-post new topics to our Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/360-Degrees-Fahrenheit/140454339374251) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/360DF).  It's pretty cool, check it out.
