Microsoft has clarified that the 250GB Xbox 360 hard drive, which was unveiled as part of the Modern Warfare 2 console bundle earlier today, will not be sold on its own.
"This hard drive is not being sold separately," said Larry Hryb (pronounced Herb), boss of Xbox Live, during a short video on Kotaku.
The Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console costs $399.99 and contains two wireless pads, one nicely decorated 250GB console, a headset and a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It's coming out on the same day as the game - 10th November - and European pre-order details are expected later this week.
Whether, however, this HDD will stay bundle-exclusive while services like Xbox Live Games on Demand cry out for more storage, remains to be seen.
I don't think i'll ever fill my 120G HDD, i have 11 full Retail games on it, about 30 Arcade games and some videos, but no music and almost 30GB space left.
How would i ever fill 250GB?
MS not selling 250GB HDD alone ... yet.
Every successful tech company uses the same pitch. "You better buy it here, because you can't buy it there." Just give it time. ;D

I could totally fill my 120GB HDD. I probably have 30GB in free Themes & Gamerpics alone. After recently installing MUA2 (giving me 5 total installed games), I have roughly 9GB free on my 120GB HDD. Also, no music either. I stream all of my tunes from my PC or thumbdrive.
I think they are telling ther truth, they'll never release the 250GB HDD. They'll release a 300G-500G instead... or a 251GB HDD

I have 81GB left

So tempted...must resist
Just found this too <LINKY> (http://www.vg247.com/2009/09/17/250gb-360-forza-bundle-priced-at-250-for-uk/)
£250 not a bad price, will this be the price for the MW2 bundle?
i'd assume so mate, good deal for either game too.
The Forza Motorsport 3 Super Elite Bundle will be released on October 23 and comes with a standard edition of the game, the 250GB HDD, headset and two controllers, and retail for £249 in the UK.
Yesterday, Microsoft revealed a limited edition Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 SKU, although no European pricing has yet been confirmed for the package.
Microsoft has also said it would not be selling the 250GB drive separately.
250GB Xbox 360 HDD headed to Japan in March
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/02/250gb-hdd-xbox.jpg)
Microsoft has announced that it will release a standalone 250GB hard drive in Japan later this year. The drive – which carries a price tag of ¥15,540 (~$170) – is set to be released on March 11. On the same day, the company will also be releasing the Wireless Controller Game Pack and the Xbox 360 Wireless N adapter.
This will mark the first time that Microsoft has released the 250GB hard drive as a standalone product. Thus far, the 250GB model has only been available as part of certain bundles such as the Modern Warfare 2 bundle released in 2009. Previously, Microsoft's Albert Penello noted Microsoft didn't have any specific plans to release the 250GB drive by itself, though he did note the possibility. While this particular drive is currently slated only for Japan, it seems likely that other territories will follow.
We've contacted Microsoft regarding any North American or European release plans and will update this post with any new info.
Microsoft spokesperson Aaron Greenberg has said there are no plans to release the 250GB Xbox 360 outside of limited edition hardware bundles.
A Final Fantasy XIII package was announced just last week. Previously, the 250GB unit has been available as part of Modern Warfare 2 and Forza Motorsport 3 bundles, but never as a standalone product. Greenberg told Joystiq that limiting the release of the console is "part of what makes it special".
"We're always evaluating, but for now we feel like the 120 is serving us very well as the standard offering," he said. "And then having the 250 as a limited edition is a good balance."
So there you go.
I thought M$ were phasing out the 120GB HDD?!? That's why the high street has been reducing their stock and some online stores have sold out.

MS are releasing the standalone 250GB HDD's in Japan, so I think at some point they'll release them in other regions, just not with standard Elite consoles.
I dont even need that much space

My 250GB HDD currently has 140GB of free space. I like to stockpile every bit of free DLC available on Xbox Live, even for games I no longer (or never) owned. You never know when it may come in handy, especially with some DLC being randomly removed from the Marketplace over the past year or so.
If I was still using my 120GB HDD, it would have been filled by now. ;D
This is kinda the way I am, I'll grab stuff I have no use for, maybe ever, I just feel better knowing I have it...
It's why I opted for the 250 FXIII bundle, that and since my son is getting so much better at video games, it won't be long and my only come back will be 'oh yeah, my hard drives bigger than yours!' Eh... well, don't go there. :o
lol, 250GB i feel inadequate now in the .... size department :P
you went there.... ;D
That's kinda strange, but oddly enough, I believe it.

Looks like it's coming/here.
Strangely enough, it's priced the same as the 120GB hard drive.
I posted about something similar early last month, but that was only for Japan, though other regions were mentioned, MS won't release 250GB 360's (except for the special edition ones) though, just the hard drives.

Good. Microsoft is finally starting to catch up to the rest of world in regards to digital storage pricing. They'll need to drop it even further once the new

I've got a 250GB Super Elite too, MS said they wouldn't sell them unless they were special edition models (Forza 3, FF13, MW2) as the 120GB model serves them so well, or something along those lines :)
This article says it comes with a atransfer cable

Pre-Order from here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003D3N7T2/ref=nosim/?tag=hotukdeals-21)...not bad at £66.99
That's typical.Only just got my 120 GB HD.
Well I caved in and finally upgraded my HDD from 20GB to 250GB...not bad for £64.99, think thats cheaper than what I paid for my original 20GB one!
Anyway looks like I'll get £18.00 trade in for my old one so that £46.99 for a shiny new drive. Been vacuuming up all the free DLC around for games that I 'might' rent one day.
Anywho, didn't someone want the transfer cable/disk? I dont mind lending it out as long as I get it back.
PM me if you want it.
