IGN have an interview with James Cope (Crackdown 2 Producer) discussing the debut trailer shown at E3, pretty good read too.

I <3 Crackdown.

I was a little nervous when I heard Realtime World wasn't developing it, but Ruffian's roster is pretty impressive, and includes some of they key people involved in the first game anyways.

MS "not just turning the crank" on Crackdown 2
Sequel will "do something remarkable" says Phil Spencer

Head of Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer has told us that Crackdown 2 will do "something that's remarkable."

"Crackdown 1, I thought was a hallmark in open world co-op gaming. I am not just gonna turn the crank," he told us. "That team is gonna push and we're going to do something that's remarkable with that game as well. It's a challenge that I lay out to the teams, let's think about our platform and why we exist, let's get better with every release."

Microsoft explains why Ruffian is the right choice for Crackdown 2

Before Microsoft revealed that Ruffian Games would be developing the upcoming Crackdown sequel, the original game's developer, Realtime Worlds, expressed some skepticism towards the idea. "I very much doubt that Microsoft would harm an otherwise fruitful existing development relationship by gambling on funding Crackdown 2 with a startup on RTW's doorstep, for obvious reasons," RTW's Colin MacDonald said last year. Things weren't so cut and dry for self-accused Crackdown fanboy (and Microsoft exec) Phil Spencer, who recently told Develop, "When Billy Thomson, the lead designer of the game [Crackdown 1], left Realtime Worlds, there was an opportunity."

Apparently, it would seem Mr. Spencer believes Realtime Worlds is simply too busy developing APB to give a Crackdown sequel the attention it deserves. "I wanted to make sure that anything we work on is correctly nurtured ... we had to find the right team who really understood what game it is – and that was Billy [Thompson] and the team at Ruffian." Crackdown 2 will be the first game developed by Ruffian Games since the studio's inception late last year.

The latest issue of Game Informer has some new details from Crackdown 2.

Backstory:
Okay, so we all know after Crackdown 1 we defeated all 3 of the gangs, and we were congratulated. "Peace at Last" it said. It couldn't have been more wrong. As the Agency took over, things went to hell. A new zombie-like virus had broken out in parts of the city, and the Agency was doing a poor job at covering it up. People found out, got sick of the Agency's bullshit, and revolted. The civilian gang called themselves the Cell, and soon after the revolted, they destroyed the agent program, almost completely crippling the Agency. But now, they've fixed it, and it's time you take the city back in a 3 way war.

-Dynamic Civilian Events (Example: A man trying to sell something in the day, getting marauded in the night. And the Agency will put up signs saying "play dead when you see an Infected". Lulz ensue.)

-Support Points are gone, Agents can now call in for ammo and supplies anytime and anywhere.

-The game looks much more detailed and grittier, but still keeps the "cartoony" look we all love so very much.

-Vehicles like Trucks or Buses have room for a mounted turret, which makes them great for getting around in Co-Op.

-More variations in weapons, meaning people have more to choose from than just the homing rocket launcher.

-Most of the civilian cars in the game are the same, but reskinned and armed with armor and weapons to survive in the new hazards of city life.

-The Cell (a gang) is composed of ordinary citizens just wanting to reclaim the city from your team (the good guys). You take them out, and reclaim their turn for the Agency.

-More instances where Co-Op play is prudent.

-The city hasn't changed in architect, all the roads are the same. Some buildings have been demolished and other small things, but over all it's the same city.

-You'll obtain skill orbs by using abilities relevant to your character.

-Four player Co-Op

-16 player Competitive Multiplayer. Tons of fun. Players collect special weapons, bonuses, and gadgets. Progression system like CoD4.

-Melee attacks are much more varied a fluid.

-Key to the City DLC is a go!

-The freaks evolve over time, making them MUCH more fearsome as the game progresses.

-All repetitiveness is completely removed. And less shitty boss battles.

-Doing missions in the day or night has a huge effect. At night, the freaks come out to play.

-City decays over time from the infection.

-New Agency helicopter and other vehicles. All old Agency vehicles returning.

-A lot more weapon variety. New powerful shotgun, Rail Gun, and sticky grenades.

-More precise targeting system. Skill is rewarded.

-Much more defining detail in all aspects of the game.

On Major Nelson's weekly podcast -- with a host left laughing and teary-eyed due to the Xbox head's dental-related lisp -- Aaron Greenberg did some NPD boasting before ruminating on the first half of 2010. After pointing out Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Alan Wake, he confirmed Crackdown 2 as part of Microsoft's list of "triple-A, exclusive" titles heading to the Xbox 360 during "the first half of the year."

"Those are just the exclusives, that doesn't include Final Fantasy ... there's no way we had a first half of the year like that last year," Greenberg added. The back end of the upcoming year is no slouch either in his eyes, with Halo Reach and Fable 3 said to be on schedule for launch in the Fall. Considering the first Crackdown's February release date, we're hoping for a similarly timed release of the sequel (just in time for its third birthday!). We've followed up with Greenberg and will update this post if we hear more.

Crackdown 2 release date announced
Microsoft reveals the date you can superjump around buildings for the second time...

Microsoft and Ruffian Games have announced the release date for Crackdown 2.

The second helping of the superjumping, explosive adventure is pencilled in for release on July 9th.

The original Crackdown sold well on the back of the in-game Halo 3 beta, so it'll be interesting to see how well the sequel does on its own two legs. Still, the summer months are traditionally quiet, so it won't have any major competition to fend off...

Crackdown 2 gets ultra-violent prequel cartoon

You know what violent video gaming franchise we always thought would make an excellent Saturday morning cartoon? Crackdown. We're thinking of a modern day GI Joe series, with rugged super soldiers, death-defying acrobatic feats, the occasional car chase and a helpful PSA at the end of each episode. However, Machinima.com recently posted the first episode in a real cartoon series based on Crackdown 2, and ... well, let's just say they went in a much different direction with it. A much bloodier direction.

Check past the jump to see the first installment in "The Pacific City Archives," and think about how happy you are that whatever city you may be living in is relatively killer-mutant-free.

E3 2010: 100G Achievements in Crackdown 2 demo
Ruffian innovates with gamer rewards

Crackdown 2's demo will feature ten Achievements worth 10G each when it is released next week, Microsoft has revealed.

Official Xbox Magazine editor John Hicks sends back word from E3 that the announcement was made at a swanky game-related launch party in Los Angeles tonight.

Sadly, you'll still have to buy the full game to add your Achievements to your Gamerscore. You thought they'd make it that easy for you?

However, until then, you'll still get the bragging rights. And that's 50 per cent of the battle.

Crackdown 2 demo today

Ruffian Games' Crackdown 2 may not be out until 9th July, but a demo version of the Xbox 360-exclusive third-person openworld effort is due today.

According to publisher Microsoft, the demo features "accelerated Agent levelling, four-player co-op, and the ability to earn Demo Achievements".

Apparently if you earn Demo Achievements you will be rewarded with full Achievements when you play the retail version of Crackdown 2.

The demo weighs in at 1.07GB.

Crackdown 2 takes players back to Pacific City where the Agency is now up against The Cell and an army of mutants that roam the streets at night.

Developer Ruffian has introduced lots of new elements including a "wingsuit" and new types of collectable orb, along with new multiplayer modes.

Crackdown 2 unlocks Perfect Dark content
Agent 4 in Perfect Dark multiplayer: Find out how

Rare's announced some cross-IP marketing, offering a Perfect Dark unlock when you play Crackdown 2.

Sneakily, Perfect Dark already has a playable version of Crackdown 2's lead character 'Agent 4' nestled inside its code.

When the XBLA game detects Crackdown 2 save data on the 360 HDD, Agent 4 is unleashed as a playable bonus in all multiplayer modes.

So all you have to do is play a bit of Crackdown 2 and save your game. Sweet.

I had this preorderd online.  For some reason GameStop occasionally offers discounts for online orders, but not in-store orders.  It's a shame because I really like my local GameStop store and its employees, but GameStop seems to be trying to put their own shops out of business.

Anywho ... I expect I'll receive Crackdown 2 in the post today or tomorrow.  Unfortunately I won't open it until I finish Transformers.  (http://360fahrenheit.com/fahrenh1_forum1/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

online has less overheads so i suppose that area can offer discounts.

theory; instead of offering 10% discount on online orders and no discount on shop orders, they could consolodate and have 5% off online and store orders.

I loved the first game, in fact i am gonna start playing it again as i haven't even finished it yet. Who's up for co op on crackdown 1 then? I haven't even tried the co op, i remember i was gonna try co op with sarge a couple of years back but it wouldn't let us get in the game together as i had a crappy bt connection back then.

I just traded in Crackdown to get Crackdown 2.  :-[

Crackdown 2 DLC Revealed by Avatar Awards
The two mission packs are called Toy Box and Deluge

Crackdown 2's first two pieces of downloadable content are entitled Toy Box and Deluge. The names were revealed because the game gives four of its Avatar Awards to players who purchase and finish the two mission packs. For those who don't know, Avatar Awards are clothing and apparel items that players receive for completing various tasks in Crackdown 2.

Gamerzines reports that those who buy Toy Box will get a Green Agent Helmet, while those who buy Deluge will be able to use a PVP Agent Helmet. For those who finish what may be the last mission of Toy Box, something called Fly Swat, there will be a Green Agent Suit, while players who beat 15 Minutes of Maim, probably the last mission from the Deluge pack, will get their virtual hands on a PVP Agent Suit.

There has been no other information about this DLC other than that fact that it is not developed by Ruffian Games, the original company behind Crackdown 2, but by Proper Games. This studio has worked on Flock!, a puzzle title for the Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network and the PC, and the fighting game Final Fight: Double Impact, for XBLA and PSN.

First Crackdown 2 add-on announced

Microsoft's announced the first add-on content for Ruffian Games' excellent Xbox 360 exclusive Crackdown 2, due out soon.

It's called Toy Box, and, according to the official blurb, offers free content as well as paid for gubbins.

The free content gives all Crackdown 2 owners the new Vehicle Tag mode, a level six ability reward and the Keys to the City.

Pay 560 Microsoft Points (£4.80 / €6.72), and you'll get 10 new Achievements, Avatar Awards and new vehicles and gadgets.

The details in full:

The free stuff:

    * Keys to the City: Made notorious in the first Crackdown expansion as the ultimate cheat mode, Keys to the City returns to Crackdown 2 and puts an even bigger set of tools at your disposal, including God Mode, Infinite Ammo, Fly Cam, spawning of weapons, gadgets and more, the ability to freeze the time of day, and pushing all skills to the maximum to become faster, stronger and more lethal.
    * Level 6 Reward: Fans who reach Level 6 on all Agent skills will be rewarded with the new Thruster Ability. Thruster Ability is like having jetpacks for your boots, giving Agents built-in vertical propulsion to activate flying with the Wingsuit no matter where you are in the game.
    * Vehicle Tag*: Once you're done taking down the Freaks and the Cell, join your friends for a thrilling new multiplayer mode where up to eight Agents can compete in these six arenas: Speed is the Quay, Industrial Action, Maim Street, Skid Row, Beachhead and The Sum of Human Knowledge.

And the stuff that costs money:

    * Two New Vehicles*: Access two new vehicles: the wall climbing aquatic mini-tank called the Agency ATV and the Squad Chopper, which allows four players to jump in and man their own weapon, including the proximity mine launcher, precision rocket launcher, twin machine guns and nose machine gun.
    * Five New Toys*: Whether you're soaring to greater heights or orchestrating a massive explosion, get creative with the following new toys: The Mass Driver (turreted gravity bending weapon), Portable Launch Pads (allows Agents to create their own launch pad jumps), Stickler Grenade (bouncing grenade that sets off smaller explosive charges as it bounces), Thrusters (allow vertical thrust), and Mags on Characters (allow Mag Grenades to be attached to characters).
    * Two Avatar Awards: Deck your Agent in the latest gear. Toy Box offers two Avatar Awards to customize your Xbox LIVE Avatar with the Xbox Green Suit (must complete the Rocketeer Achievement) and Green Helmet.
    * 10 New Achievements: Pacific City never sleeps and neither do the exploits. Industrious Agents will be rewarded with 10 new Achievements and 250 Gamerscore:

   1. Beyond the Infinite
   2. Run Get to the Chopper
   3. Rocketeer
   4. Tac Loc Takedown
   5. Burnt Offerings
   6. Mile High Club
   7. Never Give It Up
   8. One Careful Driver
   9. Wing a Ding Ding
  10. Hung Out To Dry

    * Eight Agent Suit Colours: Pick up eight new shades of in-game armour for your Agent:

   1. Peacekeeper
   2. Terror Firma
   3. Agent Orange
   4. May Contain Nuts
   5. Minti-Sting
   6. Mega Agent
   7. Haz Mat
   8. Dem Apples

*Players who have not purchased the premium Toy Box content will only have access to the new vehicles and gadgets during multiplayer games if a friend who has purchased the premium content joins. Downloading Toy Box is not required to continue engaging in other multiplayer gameplay modes with those who have downloaded it.

Crackdown 2 Deluge Pack now available on XBL
'Deluge' is the new 'Horde'

Crackdown 2's latest DLC, the Deluge Pack, is now available to download from Xbox Live. The add-on pack adds the eponymous Deluge mode to the game, which adds a Horde style 4-player co-op mode to the game.

The Deluge Pack also includes a 16-player Capture The Orb game mode. You'll need to part with 560 Microsoft Points to grab both these new additions to the game, but there's a trial version available to try for free.

Doing so will grant you access to the complete Capture The Orb experience, but will limit you to solo play for Deluge mode, pretty much completely defeating the purpose.

Deluge mode sees you fighting off increasingly large waves of mutants with up to three friends. The pack also includes new achievements and avatar awards.
