Sky Player, the new way to get Sky TV through your Xbox 360 will be available in just two weeks time, Microsoft has confirmed.
"October 27 - that's the date when you'll be able to watch TV from Sky on your Xbox 360," said Graeme Boyd, Microsoft Europe's Xbox community manager.
Sky TV programmes will be available to view live or on demand, although pricing will not be announced until the Sky Player launches.
The line-up sounds very similar to what's currently available through a satellite dish. It includes movies and entertainment shows, as well as documentaries and programming dedicated to kids, music, the arts and sport, including Premier League football and Test Match cricket.
Just upgraded to sky plus as well!
Any known price's yet?
If i'm already a Sky customer, i wonder if i can put my account number in and get it for free?
... probably not obviously knowing those money huggers at Sky

That would be great, i've heard that you'll get charged either way, which pretty much sucks!
Just got off the phone with sky. If you have sky but no multi room you pay about ten pounds a month to watch it on your xbox. If you have multi room already watching it on your xbox is free.
n1 reaps

I have multi-room, but unless you can pay a £1 to watch a specific football match say I won't be bothering watching it through the Xbox, as my Xbox is connected to the same TV as the main Sky box is anyway!
Have any of you signed up for the early preview?
nah! was too busy playing GAMES :P ;)
Me too.Sky is for the TV,xbox is for games! End of.
I thinks its a great idea. Like when you can stream music from your pc through the Xbox.
Its nice to have a choice. I dont have sky and dont watch TV that often either but its nice to know that if I wanted to its available

Just found some more info on the xbox forums
You only need a multiroom subscription to view LIVE tv.
If you have a sky subscription you will not need to pay any more to get the sky player on demand.
For people without a sky subscription you will need a sky player subscription which from the one on the computer it looks like it starts at £15pm also on the pc one you can pay per view so maybe you will be able to do this on the xbox.
Like others have previously said, both my Sky box & 360 are connected to the same TV so for me the Sky Player is useless.
I have a full package with sky and i already new that sky player on demand would be free for me through my xbox as i already checked with them ages ago. It's a great idea as it means i will never miss another program again. I have sky plus anyway but sometimes when we are out i forget to switch the box on and recordings fail. When that happens I would much rather watch them through my xbox on my big telly rather than on my tiny pc monitor. What i would like to know is as the 360 has HD capabilities will you have the option to watch certain programs/films/sporting events in HD maybe for a small extra fee? That would be great for me as i'm not willing to shell out for a sky plus hd box and a hd subscription, i'm not rich enough!

So says the rock star!
he spends all his money taking his groupies out and getting them wasted on sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. YOU LIVE THAT 70's LIFE!
Don't think his wife and daughter would like that-but you just don't know?
i'm sure they wouldn't, but it's lonesome on the triple decker tour bus.
Xbox 360 Sky Player Price Plan, Channel Listing & Shocking Truths Uncovered?
It seems like one of the chaps over at Neowin.net has uncovered a few juicy bits of information coming from http://xbox.sky.com in all the XML data that feeds the Sky Player. To me, that literally means nothing - after all, I'm no techie when it comes to this sort of stuff, but speaking to our coding expert Aleks (AKA Routine), it looks pretty legit.
So what does it tell us? Well, aside from the channel listing and clear as mud price listing, the Xbox 360 Sky Player doesn't seem to be as free to Sky subscribers as they initially made out...
Channel Listing
G.O.L.D
Sky Real Lives
Sky Arts 1
Sky Movies 1 & 2
Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and Xtra
Sky Sports News
British Eurosport
ESPN
ESPN Classic
Sky News
National Geographic
National Geographic Wild
History
Eden
Cartoon Network
Boomerang
Disney Channel
According to the site also, "Sky 1 is missing from the Live channel list but under "TV on demand" Sky 1, Baby TV and Biography are listed."
Price Plan
Non Sky customers can subscribe on a minimum monthly basis which allows access to selected live channels and a selection of TV on demand. You can also rent or buy single episodes with no commitment.
The Sky Player TV Entertainment pack will cost £15 a month - includes live broadcast of over 20 channels (including National Geographic, ESPN Classic, G.O.L.D. and Disney Channel).
You can upgrade to include movies and sport for an additional cost (not specified though).
The Shocking Truth
Sky Player on your Xbox is only free to Sky subscribers who have subscribed to a Sky Multiroom account and/or a Sky Broadband Unlimited account.
All other Sky TV subscribers can subscribe to watch live TV on their Xbox 360 Sky Player for an extra £9.75 a month... something that Microsoft and Sky failed to highlight in the build up to its release. Probably because it's frankly ridiculous.
Despite it looking legit, we'll chalk it down as a rumour for now. We'll update you when we hear more though, but it does look like the Sky and Microsoft partnership isn't going to be as popular as once thought.
sh*t no Baby TV. Sky on Demand sucks!!! :)
I have Sky Broadband Unlimited so i get Sky on my 360, on the same TV i have sky anyway. So i could try and fry my 360 by watching Sky Sports for 8 hours or just put my actual Sky Box on .... hmmm.
Yeh, that's what I was thinking! I don't really see the point if you've already got Sky.
We don't have SKY in the U.S., but I do love how larger internet services (like Xbox Live) are beginning to incorporate TV broadcasts.
For over a year I've been using a PC > 360 streaming program called PlayOn (http://www.themediamall.com/playon). It let's me watch 90% of the TV shows I enjoy without the need of cable service. I've kept my cable service because of that remaining 10% ... until now.
I discovered I can watch the remaining 10% from a website called tv-dome.net (http://www.tv-dome.net) via my PS3 (the site is full of adware, so be sure to run a reliable antivirus while visiting). I can now watch every TV show I enjoy by using my game consoles instead of my cable box. As of tomorrow, I am cancelling my cable service, and adding an extra $30 per month back into my pocket. ;D
Nice Neato. We probably have something like that here but we are to lazy to find it!
The best part is that the extra $30 per month I'm saving on cable will pay in full for my PS3 in 10 months. :)
I love technology.
You gotta love it! We do have freeview though which gives us about 80 channels for free. That comes through an existing ariel. Also freesat, similar thing but through an existing satelite dish.Has more channels but no premium ones, sports, movies etc. Won't be long though.
On another note,I pay £50.00 a month for our sky and broadband. In the USA,that's about $80.00. Yet again,we are being ripped off!

That's about the average for the USA as well. Until now I was paying $100 (£61), but that was because I have the highest broadband available in my area (16Mbps). Now I'll only be paying $70 (£43) for broadband, and still be able to watch all of my favorite shows (including premiums like HBO and Showtime).
The older I get, the more excited I get about being thrifty. I'm not so sure that's a good thing. ;D

To celebrate the launch Microsoft is releasing a special bundle pack for £29.99. That gets you a three-month Gold subscription, a one month Sky Player subscription (Sky Sports Pack) and a Media Remote.
Cool. On-demand will help me catch up with the 1 TV show i actually watch, True Blood. Which i don't think i could miss unless Aliens steal me for a week.
True Blood is great, i watched the first season on FX, Season 2 is on in the States, might have to watch them online instead of waiting until next year.

After watching the first few episodes, I called everyone "Sookie".
If you're interested in catching up on newer episodes, there's a website I frequent whenever I miss something.
TV-DOME.net (http://www.tv-dome.net/tv-shows/)
I'm not sure if this site only works with US ip address, but it worth a try. The site is full of pop-ups and Adware, but my antivirus (Avast!) blocks it all.
I normally use tv shack to catch up on stuff i've missed
Didn't watch true blood, can't stand vampires or anything like that.Just dross. Nor twilight, crap.
I like dexter and burn notice and of course,NCIS.Quality! Not sure about NCIS : LA though.Jury still out.
Shame this has been delayed:
Quote from: sky.comFollowing an unpredicted technical issue at launch on Tuesday, the Sky Player on Xbox 360 service was suspended.
We would like to apologise to those who have been unable to access the service but we can assure them that Sky Player engineers are working to resolve the problem.
I brought the introduction sky offer from game last saturday.
Included was: DVD controller
1 month sky entertainment package
1 month sky sports package
3 month xbox live gold
All for £15. I thought that it was a good deal. I also took out the movie package for £7. Sky movies on demand.
Now I wonder if i could just keep buying these every month? £15 pound for a month of sky plus 3 months gold would be a nice deal every month.
It is a good deal but I dont really watch TV so there is no point in me getting it. I just steal....I mean borrow Box set series off Craig :P

Microsoft hails Sky Player as a success
The Xbox Live Sky Player is a resounding success, Microsoft says.
If it were a videogame, it would be a top five title, Jerry Johnson, general manager of Xbox Live Studios in Soho, said at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival this afternoon.
"If Sky was a title in the UK market, it would be one of the top played titles on an evergreen basis. It's not Call of Duty, but it's up there as one of the top five or ten titles on a consistent basis over time," he said during his presentation titled Transforming Living Room Entertainment.
Microsoft launched the Sky Player for Xbox 360 in October last year.
Gamers can watch Sky Movies, Sky Sports and other marquee channels for a fee over and above their Xbox Live Gold subscription.
"It's doing really well," Johnson told Eurogamer ahead of his Edinburgh presentation.
"I don't want to say surprising, but we've seen very positive uptake.
"One of the things we're really proud of is the uptake on the party modes, especially around live television. While we don't release specific numbers, we're seeing on a live programme double digit percentages of people watching are in rooms of more than two people.
"When we hit major events or live events like a Premier League football game, we can even see those numbers double.
"It's a success, especially for a first run at this. As we start to work at the camera and the array mics [Kinect sensor], we're going to open up the ability to communicate while watching television. It's a no brainer that this thing is is going to continue to take off."
The Sky Player service was suspended soon after launch after it was crippled by unexpected demand on day one.
