Title: Modern Warfare 2 - who's getting it and how?
Post by: Jaynestown on October 22, 2009, 08:12:47 PM
I have a dilemma. I'm quite tempted by Game's deal to get Modern Warfare 2 for half price if I trade in COD4, but I have reservations:

1) I feel I'd be selling myself out if I actually end up paying for a game that will be over-priced purely beacuse of it's "name"
2) I don't want to trade in COD4 and then find everyone else here has kept it and then I can't join in when we play it on Friday nights
3) As all of the achievements in COD4 are single player there's still a chance I could get most of them (although it'll take several million hours I suspect 'cos I'm really not that good at it) and being the blossoming score whore that I appear to be I may regeret the trade in.
4) I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy MW2, knowing how poor I am at COD4!

Since number 2 above may very well be the tie-breaker I was curious to know who here is going to get MW2, and who will be trading in their copy of COD4 to get it? If everybody is going to hang on to COD4 then I don't want to trade it in, which means I've either got to pay full whack for MW2, or wait a while until it comes down in price. (Or find some other way of getting it at a more sensible price... ASDA, Tesco, are you reading this? Do us a favour and sell it for £30 on the day of release!!!)

Currently i've got it pre-ordered at both Game & Gamestation and will most likely take up the half price offer at Game unless the supermarkets have a big price war, i've played COD4 twice in 12 months so i'm not bothered about trading it in, but like Failed has said elsewhere, the price for COD4 will most likely drop big time once MW2 has been released so i'll probably buy it again cheap in the New Year.

I hadn't thought of that. If my bloody car hadn't decided to need a couple of hundred pounds worth of work on it yesterday I'd have probably bitten the bullet (even though I initially said I wouldn't get it) and got it from wherever is selling it cheapest. Now I can't afford to do that. I've had to cancel my pre-order of Forza 3 as well :( which is just as annoying as I was looking forward to that.

If only someone would have the decency to invent transporters I could ditch my car and not have that expenditure to worry about!!!   :-\

Once I 100% COD4, I plan on trading it in since I never play it online.

However, that won't be for some time.  I'll probably end up getting MW2  before I complete COD4.

I'm considering buying the MW2 Elite Bundle for the 250HDD, controllers and game.  Then sell the console to someone that likes that kind of crap.   ;)

I'm not getting rid of cod 4.No way. I'm getting MW2 on pre-order from blockbuster for myself and Charlie-who wants it for PS3.
So,I'm buying 2 copies.What a mug!
I can't wait to get it so I can fill my gamertag with them all in numerical order.Ha ha ha....

You'll have to get CoD 1 too. Then bug Treyarch to bring out 'The Big Red One'

I will probably not be getting it  because I need to tight my belt.Because I have already spend enough money in this month only  and also because I do not agree with high prices.

I was waiting for someone to spot that!!! I traded in 5 games to get that Red, Wolverine, which I just couldn't be arsed to try and get the last 4 achievements for, Force Unleashed, which I just wasn't getting on with, Guitar Hero III, which I only bought for the guitar to use as a second controller for World Tour, Race Driver Grid, which I'd just got bored of, and (the only one I wasn't sure about trading in) Dead Space because, to be honest, was too scary!  :o

I'll let you off JT. I did a big trade in for Borderlands, ended up only having to pay £7.99 for it.

I'm renting Dead Space at the moment. Yes it is damn scary, but a great game if you can look past that.

That's how much Forza 3 cost me after taking the trade-ins in to account!

If I can pick it up in the future for a few quid (like £3) then I may try it again, but I really did find it too scary (I'm a big wimp!)

Loved Dead Space, it doesn't feel as scary after the first 4 levels. (i'm a wimp too when it comes to horror.) Condemned 2 looks even scarier, so i will try that one day.

I traded in 14 games for Borderlands they weren't very good, they were more for scorewhoring. Stuff like ratatouille and x-men (first one).

As i've said elsewhere, i didn't find Dead Space remotely scary, but, it's still a fantastic game.
Condemned 2 was okay, not as good as the first game for me though.

So did i, must have affected me differently >_<

I wonder if they'l make CoD4 map packs free when MW2 comes out, like Gears 1 did.

The map packs for CoD 4 were some of the better mapsin my opinion Love the T.V station map.

I think I am just going to bite the bullet and buy MW2 staight out, CoD 4 has been my fav game on the 360, And I don't want to part with it, I can easily see in a few months time after the release of MW 2 wanting to go back for some retro MW 1 action

There's bound to be loads of people who prefere MW1 and will stick with that, i think MW1 will have a following for a long time (like Gears 1, Halo 2 and other even older games like Counter Strike)

Get on it Sarge, great game, also pretty easy to get the full 970 gamerscore on it too, there isn't 1000 on it as Sega were planning on adding the remainding 30 with DLC but it never happened.

Everything worked out nicely, got Modern Warfare and GTA Episodes from Liberty City for £55 this morning. Sold Borderlands for £30 and selling Episodes to my mate for £25, gets me £55 back. Modern Warfare 2 for nothing :) ... well for Borderlands.
