Title: MS forcefully removes private chat from upcoming titles
Post by: GamerMan316 on November 02, 2009, 11:06:50 AM
Do you like to use the party chat option on your Xbox 360? Well, if you do, you may soon find yourself being forced out of using that option. Microsoft appears to be offering developers the option to negate the private chat option the Xbox 360 offers. Currently, players have the option of forming a private chat with players, but that will soon change.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will force players to decide whether or not they'll play the game and join the game chat, or choose to stay in a private chat and not play in the multiplayer game. With titles like Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War, and many other online based multiplayer titles, the private chat feature became a way of telling other players of enemy locations after being killed.

Such a feature shouldn't detract from the overall online experience much, but there will surely be some gamers who won't like the type of feature being implemented. With some gamers only using the private chat to talk to friends while playing different games, this will likely pose a problem for them.

A difficult one for MS this. Many find the party chat great but as with most hints in life, it's open to abuse. As long as you can choose and notvhave it forced on you it should be ok.

Sometimes on Halo everyone is in a chat and you can't speak to anyone, or tell them to look out for the big grav hammer that's about to squish their skull.

...And sometimes you wish everyone was in a private chat. Damn kids!

The only time I use private/party chat is when we're the only ones playing.  If I'm playing publicly, I use the game channel.  That's just common courtesy.

I only use my headset when playing with you guys-not often I know, but it does avoid the idiots out there!
Except of course when playing RSV2.I often get kicked for not wearing a headset-too many anoraks on there!

Hardcore. I think similar happens in Ace Combat and HAWX. People like to say, Falcon 1 you have a bogey up your bum... that's why you shouldn't pick your nose then your arse ... although, it's even worse the other way 'round.

An article read said its only for certain gametypes.

Which is understandable, Take Gears 1, if you died you couldn't talk anymore with party chat that's irrelevant and you can tell your teammates where your opponent is, I assume they're just trying to prevent this kind of thing in ranked gametypes or something.

I think this is a good idea for certain game types but I often party chat with some mates in London who play alot of W@W whereas I'm stuck into FIFA.  As I understand it if they enter a S&D match in COD I wont be able to talk to them anymore as they'll switch to the in-game channel... >:(

we tend to use party chat on Gears 2 public matches and sometimes on private matches so we can even talk to our opponents which is a bit weird
